A HUNDRED YEAR OLD ETHOS OF CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY
“ Be sure to lay wide streets planted with shady trees, every other
of a quick growing variety. Be sure that there is plenty of space
for lawns and gardens. Reserve large areas for football, hockey
and parks. Earmark areas for Hindu temples, Mohammedan
mosques and Christian churches.”
- J N Tata to Dorabji Tata in 1902.
TATA Corporate Philosophy..
“The wealth gathered by Jamsetji and his sons in half a century of
industrial pioneering formed but a minute fraction of the amount by
which they enriched the nation. The whole of that wealth is held in
trust for the people and used exclusively for their benefit. The cycle is
thus complete; what came from the people has gone back to the people
many times over.”
JRD Tata, Chairman, Tata
Group
1938 –1991“I do believe that we, in the Tata Group, have held a view and a sense
of purpose that our companies are not in existence just to run our
business and to make profits but that we are responsible corporate
citizens over and above our normal operations.”
Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata
Group
Since 1991

SPORTS IN TATA STEEL
“The Tata Group has long recognised that Sport builds character. The founder, Jamsetji Tata, writing to his son, Dorab, on the planning of Jamshedpur, reminded him to ‘reserve large areas for football, hockey and parks’
Today we continue this tradition by supporting young, talented Indian Sportspersons as they make their mark on the international stage and compete with the world’s best”
