Create a current-state baseline of the xClient IT environment- Global inventory of technology infrastructure- Assessment of current IT operational processes- Understanding of fragmented organizational responsibilities
Develop an overall xClient IT strategy that defines a target technology architecture, the future IT service model, operational processes and organization responsibilities. Reflect this in a sequenced roadmap and structured implementation plan
Continue integration of xClient IT operations with wider xClient's Internal IT capabilities, e.g. more mature infrastructure and processes
Be prepared to make broad-based investments in IT capabilities that can significantly improve operational costs in the longer term, while reducing IT risk
Create common enabling technology services, on which specific industry and customer solutions can be built and operated profitably
Confirm with the business the proper IT provider relationship and adjust strategies and projects accordingly.
Business/IT Alignment The xClient IT service delivery model is largely aligned with individual business
contracts, resulting in fragmentation and variability, and significantly increasing IT costs and risks
xClient IT operations are supported by multiple small IT organizational units Fragmentation of technology, processes and organization is a major cost driver and a
serious constraint on IT scalability, particularly internationally Customer contracts do not reflect the true costs of IT service delivery, reducing their
profitability and undermining the ability to invest in achieving IT economies of scale through commonality
xClient IT is looking to implement an IT ‘ERP’ system, in order to improve process execution and cost transparency
xClient IT aspires to have a “Partner” relationship with the business in terms of the IBM CUPE IT Provider Relationship Model, but both the current state and the selected IT initiatives suggest a “Utility” relationship.
Maximize extent to which individual customer requirements can be met by more standardized service solutions, delivered more predictably and at lower cost, thereby improving contract profitability
Ensure that customer contract terms reflect the true cost-to-serve, in particular the ongoing financial and technical impact of specialization
Promote the evolution of xClient IT from a start-up mentality to one that embodies a more consistent and disciplined operating model
Business xClient is a fastest growing division, with the ability to leverage the latest in-house
hardware to competitive advantage. However, xClient capabilities are not widely understood and promoted within the wider enterprise
The majority of xClient business is in major accounts. Maximizing the profitability of these contracts drives the need to reduce the associated IT service delivery costs
Each xClient customer account is generally a custom solution, managed independently on the basis of a stand-alone P&L
xClient has traditionally been independent of the enterprise IT services provided by xClient's Internal IT Organization in order to provide business flexibility and support an entrepreneurial culture
Commonality in xClient operations is constrained by contractual confidentiality issuesand/or regulatory constraints.
RecommendationsObservation

(CIO, CFO).
