+ OBJECTIVE

Our objective is to blow out a candle using sound waves.

+ HYPOTHESIS

If you hit the plastic bottle a sound wave will be created that will blow out the candle.

+ PROCUDERE

We cut the plastic bottle in half, and take of the cap off. Then we cut the paper and paste it on the side that was cut. Then we light the candle with the lighter and we hit the side were the paper was pasted, and the candle blows out.

+ EXPLANATION

You created a sound wave when you tapped on the plastic wrap. Air molecules near the plastic wrap began to vibrate, causing other nearby air molecules to vibrate. The vibrations traveled through the bottle and out of the neck. This either disrupted the availability of oxygen that the candle needed to continue burning, or made the candle's flame mechanically unstable, depending on the frequency and intensity of the sound.

+ CONLUSION

Our hypothesis was correct. We learned that we can create sound waves with only the material we found. In conclusion a sound wave made by hitting a plastic bottle, can blow off a candle.
