About This Manual

Purpose At first, thank you for choosing ZXSS10 SS1b of ZTE Corporation!

ZXSS10 SS1b is fully compatible with the layered standard NGNmodel. It can provide NGN with service call and connection con-trol functions which are required by real-time services. By usingZXSS10 SS1b, operators can provide users with many kinds ofmultimedia services which involve voice, video and data. ZXSS10SS1b is, therefore, the core of NGN in terms of call and control.

This manual describes the detailed method to interconnect ZXSS10SS1b with the Signaling Gateway (SG) devices and provides userswith guides to configure the system.

Configuration OverviewBackground 1. As a signaling agent, Signaling Gateway (SG) acts as a bridge

to interconnect SS7 networks with IP networks. Thus the PSTNoffice can interconnect with SS1b through SS7. It also con-verts TDM into IP and vice versa. Both I704 and MSG 9000can provide functions of a signaling gateway. Figure 1 showsthe position of SG in NGN and the protocols used in the inter-connection.

2. SIGTRAN protocol cluster is used between SS1b and signalinggateways. SIGTRAN consists of two layers: the transmissionlayer and the UA layer, as shown in Figure 2.

� Transmission layer: Stream control transmission protocol,or SCTP in short, provides reliable message packet trans-mission in IP networks. Located in the same layer withTCP and UDP, SCTP is a kind of reliable connection-orientedtransmission protocol. It is designed for transmitting PSTNsignaling messages in IP networks.

� UA layer: It adapts all protocols in protocol hierarchicalstructure of SCN signaling and is responsible for primitivetransmission between two layers in SCN and IP. M3UA isthe level-3 adaptation layer protocol of MTP. SS7 network

extends from SCN network to IP network smoothly by thecooperation of M3UA and MTP3, which enables devices in IPnetwork to provide SS7 users with services without physicallayer, data link layer and complete network layer.

Relations

Figure 3 shows the overall flow of ZXSS10 SS1b configuration. Inactual deployment, operators can adjust the above steps or config-uration items according to the actual situation in conformity withthe sequence of “basic data-interconnection data-service data-ap-plication data”.

Interconnection DataPlanning

Introduction The interconnection between two different devices requires the in-formation of them. In this interconnection, SS side provides infor-mation for SG, and vice versa. The information must be preparedbefore the interconnection configuration.

Table 1 lists the SG interconnection configuration plan.

SS receives SS7 messages transferred by SG, which containsDPC+OPC. DPC+OPC are configured by interconnection data, andthen SS responses to SS7 by using the SIGTRAN protocol. Keyparameter association of SS interconnection configuration flow isshown in Figure 4.

Adding an SG ZonePrerequisites � NetNumenN31 has been connected to the background data-

base;

� You have logged in to the Configure Management interfaceof NetNumenN31;

� DAS selected by SG has been established.

Context This topic describes how to add an SG zone.

A zone is a collection of the GW nodes which share the same at-tributes in some aspects. Nodes of different device types cannotcoexist in one zone. In the SS system, the data area of the pro-cessing board is allocated by zone. Configure the gateway zonein which an SG device is going to be located before adding the SGdevice.

Steps 1. Double click the SG icon on the Configure Management in-terface.

2. On the SG Zone interface, click the AddZONE icon .

The Zone Basic Property Configuration interface appears,as shown in Figure 5.

Zone ID Add an unused zone number which cannot exceedthe allowed maximum number.

DAS

It is the DAS of the called party. The DAS herehas the lowest priority. If both an user and ahundreds group fail to be configured with a DAS,this DAS will be used.

Network Type It should be consistent with the network typeselected in SoftSwitch property configuration.

LATA The area code of the city in which the zone islocated.

OfficeLanguage Choose a language according to region.

PassingNetwork Type Select a local network type.

Incoming CallRight Template

Call right refers to that whether users can makecalls or receive calls under normal conditionand make calls or receive calls when they arein arrears. This template can be configuredon the interface Service Manage > UserModel Configuration > User TemplateConfiguration.

Caller DAS Do not set this parameter if you do not analyzethe caller number.

Zone Name The naming rule is as follows: device name_zonenumber, such as SG_1.

Zone Type 9–SG by default.

ExtendedRight ModelNo.

Use the extended right model number cited byusers. This is an extension of the Incoming CallRight Template.

CallerAuthentication Authenticates the callers.

Domestic TG Valid in the configuration of TG/SG nodes,represents the domestic TG device.

Valid in the configuration of TG/SG nodes,represents the international TG device.

PBX Valid in the configuration of TG/SG nodes,represents the user device.

Multi AreaCode Whether belong to a multi area code environment.

3. After configuring parameters, click the OK button to finish theconfiguration.

Configuring SG MaximumCapacity

Prerequisites � NetNumenN31 has been connected to the background data-base;


� DAS selected by SG has been established;

� A corresponding SPC processing board has been added.

Context This topic describes how to configure the SG maximum capacity.

� The processing board of SS1b processes calls and protocols bythe unit of zone; It is required to allocate a processing boardfor the zone before adding it.

� You do not have to add data area of SCTP and M3UA whenadding SG zone capacity because the system will allocate thecorresponding data area automatically according to the SCTPconnection data.

Steps 1. Right click the ZXSS10 icon and select Shelf Configurationfrom the shortcut menu.

2. Right click the corresponding SPC board and select Data AreaCapacity Configuration from the shortcut menu.



3. Click the Add(A) button.

The Add Data Area Capacity Configuration interface popsup, as shown in Figure 6.

Parameter Description

Max Calls For the use of handling users, calculatedaccording to 0.2 ERL for each line. The call dataarea size should be calculated by multiplying theuser capacity with 0.2. For the use of handlingtrunks, it is calculated according to 0.7 ERL foreach line, and the call data area size is acquiredby multiplying the trunk capacity with 0.7. Thatis, the call data area capacity is equal to themaximum user capacity * 0.2 plus the maximumtrunk capacity * 0.7. The average Erl is modifiedaccording to the actual conditions of differentareas.

Max Calls ofMGCP

If the data area size allotted to MGCP users is X,then the H248 data area size is also X.

Max Calls ofH248

If the data area size allotted to H248 users is X,then the H248 data area size is also X.

Max Calls ofH323

If the data area size allotted to H323 users is X,then the H323 data area size is also X.

Max Calls ofSIP

If the data area size allotted to SIP users is X,then the SIP data area size is also X.

MaxTransaction ofSIP

The data area size for the transaction layer ofSIP, which is configured according to the on-sitecondition.




Max Reg. ofSIP

The registration data area size for SIP users,which is configured according to the on-sitecondition.

Max Calls ofSCM

Configured according to the ratio of IN calls(including MAP and CAP) for users. If the ratio is0.3, then Max Calls of SCM = Max Calls * 0.3.This ratio can be modified according to the actualcondition.

Max Calls ofINAP

Max Calls of SCM-Data Area for MAP-Data Areafor CAP.

Max Calls ofDSS1

If the call data area size allotted to DSS1 users isX, then the DSS1 data area size is also X.

Max Calls ofSS7

Configured according to the ratio of the calldata area for SS7 trunk groups of the zone. Ifthe ratio is 0.3, then this item is calculated bymultiplying Max Calls with *0.3.

Max SingleCircuit Callsof SS7

The SS7 single circuit data area refers to thedata area for single-circuit calls. The number ofSS7 single circuits is equal to 0.2 * the numberof total trunk circuits configured.

Percent ofMonitor DataSection in CallData Section

The ratio of the data area (for the listeningservice) to the call data area. If the listeningservice is not used, it is 0.

Max Subscribe The maximum data area for the announcementindicator service.

4. Click the Capability 2 tab. The system prompts Figure 7.

Max Multi CircuitCalls of SS7

The SS7 circuit group data area refers to thedata area for the trunk group circuits. Thenumber of SS7 circuit groups is calculatedby multiplying the number of total trunkcircuits configured with 0.25.

Max Calls of V5 If the call data area size for V5 users is X,the then V5 data area size is also X.

Max Data Area forBICC

Configured according to the ratio of calls tothe MSC through the BICC protocol. If nocalls to the MSC, it is 0.

Max Data Area forBICC CG

The data area size for BICC concurrent calls.

Max Data Area forPS

The data area for the disaster recoveryservice.

Max Data Area forMAP

The MAP data area.

Max Data Area forMTC

The data area size in the coding/decodinggateway configuration.

CS_2 CSA MaximalData Area

Used exclusively for the CS_2 service. Therecommended configuration ratio (CSA: CS:LEG) is 1:3:6.

CS_2 CS MaximalArea

Used exclusively for the CS_2 service. Therecommended configuration ratio of CSA,CS and LEG is 1:3:6.

CS_2 LEG MaximalData Area

Used exclusively for the CS_2 service. Therecommended configuration ratio (CSA: CS:LEG) is 1:3:6.

Note:

For other parameters: Fill 0 in all other data area. SG mainlyprocesses signaling processing instead of the detailed serviceslike call processing.

5. Click OK to finish the configuration.

Postrequisite After allocating the capacity of data area, reboot the correspondingSPC board according to system prompt.



Configuring a Zone on aProcessing Board



� An SG zone has been added.

� A corresponding SPC processing board has been added.

Context This topic describes how to configure a zone on a processing board.

After configuring the data area of a zone, the processing of userservices, protocols and authentications can be made on this board.

Primary logical processing board and secondary logical process-ing board form an active and standby relation. When functioningproperly, the primary processing board processes the related dis-posals; When it malfunctions, the related disposals are switched tosecondary processing board. Therefore, there must be two boardsacting as primary and secondary boards. If there are no logicalprocessing boards which form an active/standby relation, the pro-cessing of services, protocols and authentications will be made ona board.

Steps 1. Select the added SG icon, right click it and select Zone andCard Configuration.


The Add Zone and Card Configuration interface pops up, asshown in Figure 8.

3. Fill in Master LSQ and Slave LSQ.

4. Click the OK button and system prompts you to reboot the SPCboard.

Adding an SG NodePrerequisites � NetNumenN31 has been connected to the background data-

base.

� You have logged in to the Configure Management interfaceof NetNumenN31.

� An SG zone has been added.

Context This topic describes how to add an SG node, including the IP ad-dress of the node, the protocol port number and the affiliated zonenumber.

Steps 1. In the SS topological view, double click the SG icon.

2. Click the Add SG button. The SG Property Configurationwindow appears as shown in Figure 9.

Node ID

Node ID is the unique number of the gatewaydevice. You can click the parameter blank to see theAvailable Node ID. This should be planned beforeconfiguration.

DeviceType

9–SG.

IP Address The actual IP address. Enter it according to the plan.



Parame-ter Description

DomainName

Domain name adopt “GW IP address” format, suchas [20.20.11.12].

MACAddress

If the authentication mode is MAC, this item shouldbe consistent with that of the terminal. In othercases, this item can be empty.

Zone Use the zone number the node belongs to.

Remark

The naming principle: City Name + Device TypeID + ID. The city name should be spelled in fulluppercase Chinese letters; The device type ID is thefunction type of the device in networks; ID is thenumber of the similar devices in a city, for example,NJSG1.

Port Type Select 1-UDP.

Local Port The number of the local SCTP connection port. Itshould be agreed by both parties, for example, 2944.

Peer Port The number of the peer SCTP connection port. Itshould be agreed by both parties, for example, 2944.

IPSP Whether interconnects through broadband. If yes,use IP mode to interconnect with SG device.

IP Version Select according to field IP address, IPv4 is commonchoice.

3. Click the Device Property tab. Figure 10 pops up.

Location Select whether this node belongs to the localsoftswitch or the disaster recovery softswitch.

LanguageModel Type

Select the language used by the node.

4. Click the OK button to finish the configuration.

Configuring an SG Group inthe Same Office Direction



� An SG node has been added.

Context This topic describes how to configure an SG group in the sameoffice direction.

After the signaling gateway nodes have been configured, the PSTNoffice direction which connects this node should be configured. Be-fore configuring the office direction, you are required to configurethe relation between the office direction and the SG group. Inthe SS system, every PSTN office direction corresponds to an SGgroup, and every SG group can only be used in one office direction.An SG group can only contain 8 SG nodes at most which indicatesthat one office direction can connect one or several SG nodes.

Steps 1. On the Configure Management interface, select Proto-col(P) > SS7 Configuration(S) > Configure SG Group inThe Same Office(O).

The Configure SG Group in The Same Office interface popsup, as shown in Figure 11.

The Add SG Group in the Same Office interface pops up, asshown in Figure 12.

3. Fill in SG Group No. from number 1, here we take 3 as anexample.

4. Enter the configured SG node number in SP Gateway Node1, or click SP Gateway Node 1.



The Gateway Query interface pops up, as shown in Figure 13.

Note:

To configure SP Gateway Node N is similar to the way toconfigure SP Gateway Node 1.

5. Fill in the Policy Value.

Policy Value distinguishes the priority of gateway node. Smallvalue indicates high priority level. 1 represents the highestpriority and 0 represents no usage. Two gateway nodes withthe same priority indicate load sharing.

Configuring the OfficeDirection of an AdjacentSwitch (CO)



� You have configured an SG group in the same office direction.

Context This topic describes how to configure the office direction of an ad-jacent switch.

Steps 1. Double click the SG zone icon to enter the signaling office di-rection interface.

2. Click the AddCO button .

The CO Configuration interface pops up, as shown in Figure14.

Office ID The ID of this PSTN signaling direction in SSsystem.

Office Name Naming rule: city name + device type number +number, such as NANJINGJ10.




Office Code It’s recommended to keep it consistent with theoffice direction number.

SP Code The allocated signaling point code in the entirenetwork.

Region Code District code number, for example, Nanjing is 25.

SP Type There are 4 SP types: 1-SEP (node at signalingend); 2-STP (signaling transferring node); 3-STEP(node at signaling end or signaling transferringnode); 4-IP NODE (node in IP network). Select anSP type by its actual function in a network.

SG GroupIndex

Fill in SG group number in the same officedirection.

SPConnectionRelation

There are 2 types of SP connection methods:1-direct connection and 2-semi-direct connection.Choose one according to the connection modebetween signaling office and SG node.

Network Type Make it consistent with the network type in SSproperty configuration.

CCSSpecifications

Common channel protocol standards applied inthis office direction. Select 0-China standarddomestically.

OfficeLanguage

Select 2-English.

SP Code Type Select a signaling point coding mode of thisoffice direction. Generally, 0-SPC IN 24 BITS isadopted in China.

Sub-serviceField

Select 8-national network in China or select0-international network in other countries.

Hop Counter If Use is selected, the Hop Counter parameter willbe added to SS7 IAM messages.

Local OfficeSP Code

Fill in the SP code of the local SS whichinterconnects with this office direction.

Used Zone Fill in the SG zone number affiliated with thisoffice direction.

User Area It is used to identify a user area when receiving aspecial service call.

Routing Tag Route selection mode. Select 0–Route Selectionon GT or 1-Route Selection on DPC+SSN.

Local GT No. Fill the GT code used by the local office when0–Route Selection on GT is selected.

NetAppearance

Some devices need it. Click Net Appearance toconfigure the values and select a signaling codingmode.




CO Is BelongSS

This is not used by a traditional SS7 officedirection. When SCP and HLR need to supportdisaster recovery, this should be selected. Afterit is selected, the data of this office direction isvisible to the SS.

Multi AreaCode

Whether the office which interconnects with SS isin a multi area code environment.

Local-callOffice

Whether the office which interconnects with SS isa local call office.

National LongDistance CallOffice

Whether the office which interconnects with SS isa national long distance call office.

InternationalLong DistanceCall Office

Whether the office which interconnects with SS isan international long distance call office.

Test isRequired

If this item is selected, The system will return thevalues of Test Code in SS property configuration.Currently invalid.

Telephone Currently invalid.

In the SameArea

Whether the peer office only manages one longdistance region.

ISUP CalledNum Mark F

Whether add F to the tail of the ISUP callednumber.

HLR Office If this is selected, It is the HLR office direction.The MAP data zone will be selected.

SCTP Introduction Figure 15 shows the SCTP association. Configure the SCTP trans-mission address before establishing an SCTP connection, whichmeans adding an SCTP port number to an IP address. Like the TCPport number, SCTP port number can be used to identify subscriberswho have a same address, for example, IP address 10.66.100.2and SCTP port number 5505 represent one transmission addresswhile 10.66.100.14 and 2905 represent another. In the same way,10.66.100.14 and 5505 represent another address.

An SCTP connection must be established by the following steps:

1. SCTP common configuration: The default values are enough.

2. SCTP ports: They should be agreed by both parties.

3. SCTP connection: They should be agreed by both parties.

M3UA Introduc-tion

MTP3-User Adaptation Layer, or M3UA in short, provides primitivescommunication services for MTP3 subscribers in IP networks andMTP3 users on network edge. It interconnects the TDM SS7 withIP networks.

Figure 16 shows the position of M3UA. Through the cooperationof M3UA and MTP3, SS7 networks connects SCN networks to IPnetworks. As a result, devices in IP networks can provide SS7subscribers with services without having the physical layer, thedata link layer and the integrated network layer.

Basic terms of M3UA:

� Application Server (AS)

A logical entity of specified-route key words, for example, ASis a virtual exchange unit which processes all the call processesog PSTN trunk within the range of DPC/OPC/CIC; If it is a vir-tual database unit, it processes the transaction identified byspecified SS7 DPC/POC/SCCP, SSN combination. AS includesa group of unique AS processes, among which one or severalprocesses are activated.

� Application Server Process (ASP)

Process instance of application server, ASP is working as anactivated or backup process of AS, for example, ASP can beMGC, IP SCP or IP HLR process. ASP contains SCTP ports andcan configure ASP to handle the signaling service of multipleAS.

� Route Context



The unique value to identify route key word. Route contextcan be configured by management interface or route key wordprogram.

M3UA application must be realized by the follow steps:

1. Start M3UA. The loading mode should be determined by bothparties.

2. Configure the AS application server. The route context shouldbe determined by both parties.

3. Configure the relations between AS and SCTP. Decide whichSCTP bears the active AS.

Configuring SCTP Common Data



Context This topic describes how to configure SCTP common data, includ-ing protocol timer and default configurations.

Caution:

Most parameters in the SCTP common configurations can use thedefault values. If it is necessary to modify them, seek assistancefrom ZTE engineers.

Steps 1. On the Configure Management interface, select Pro-tocol(P) > SCTP Configuration(T) > SCTP CommonConfiguration(C).

2. Click the Modify(M) button on the SCTP Common Configu-ration(C) interface.

The waiting time after sending INIT messagewhen connecting. If the waiting timeexceeds the set time, the INIT message willbe resent. By default, it is 200.

Initial Value of T2Timer (10 ms)

The waiting time after sending shutdown orshutdown ack. If the waiting time exceedsthe set time, the message will be resent. Bydefault, it is 200.

Incoming FlowCount

The maximum number of incoming flowallowed by SCTP connection. Now thenumber is 16.

System PermitMaximum SCTP

Maximum number of SCTP connection. Bydefault, it is 320.




UDP Port Number The number of UDP when used by SCTP. Now9899 is used as the port number.

Assocaitions CookieFormat

Configure Cookie format. Both0–User-defined format and 1–StandardFormat are available. By default, it is1–Standard Format. Cookie format canalso be configured in SCTP connectionconfigurations. When SCTP connection cannot read its value, it will read from here.

Checksum ALG Both 0–ADLER32 and 1–CRC32C areavailable. By default, it is 1–CRC32C.Checksum ALG can also be configured inSCTP connection configurations. When SCTPconnection can not read its value, it will readfrom here.

Socket ReceivingTimes Every 10 ms

The number of socket received every 10 ms.By default, it is 7.
