Drop down test

Drop down test Details of Test• 1. Stack height is 5

steps• 2. No forces has put

while dropping the bag into the floor

• 3. Labour had proper instructions before the test (how to drop the bag)

Results

CHECKING PROCESS RESULTS• Out of 14 bags

which I tested 2 bags were mouth opened and 1 bag is opened at the backside of the bag near to bottom stitching point

Weight inspection

Total bag counting for Weight checking = 76 bags Bags (less than 49.800 kg) = 13 bagsBags (between 49.800 – 50 kg) = 24 bagsBags (more than 50.00 kg) = 39 bagsLeast weight Over weight

Dunnage

ZACL NO DUNNAGE CIL DUNNAGE USED

As I already informed to IST regarding dunnage - they said they will implement it from next rake

Page 14: Zuari Port Operations

Some facts• Bag supplier – Only DCL has consistency

in delivering good quality of bags• Comparing to HDPE bags PP bags are

better in case of quality & look wise • Colour of ZACL bags easily gets dirt and

its clearly visible due to white colour of our bags

Competitors bag colour

Page 21: Zuari Port Operations

Requesting Colour change• Due to multiple handing we cannot avoid

dirt but we can prevent it by changing the white colour of the bag into some attractive colour like our competitors bag colour which can avoid the visibility of dirt.

Page 22: Zuari Port Operations

KC sharma surveyors

W.H inspection• 1 person for 5 Katas for

weight checking• Once in 30 mins they will

check the weight of bags• Truck loading 1 person

will count bags for 1 point• One truck carries 200

bags

RACK LOADING POINT• 2 persons at starting

point of wagons to count the number of bags

• 16 persons involved in counting and rake inspection

• In destination point 6 persons will be incharge to count the bags

Page 23: Zuari Port Operations

Rake loading point

Page 24: Zuari Port Operations
Page 25: Zuari Port Operations

Cut & Torn Bags• Few cut & torn bags may arise due to the rake doors at Loading point. In truck unloading they areNot dragging the bag, they are Lifting the bag on shoulders at Rake loading point to avoid cut& torn bags No hooks usage in Kakinada

Page 26: Zuari Port Operations

Destination point• Usage of Hooks at destination:- Increase cut & torn bags- Spillage leads to weight loss- Average quality bags cannot withstand due to hooks usage

Page 27: Zuari Port Operations

Numerical ShortageDestination H&T / ZACL Marketing team Argument

1. Surveyor is not present while unloading

2. Surveyor came but without signing report he ran away

3. Surveyor came after completion of unloading

4. No way of unloading bags into warfage – its highly time consuming act

5. We are not using hooks at destination

IST Argument1. Direct unloading into trucks 2. No possibility of counting

the bags3. ZACL marketing -Asking to

increase the cut & torn bags4. If excesses bags received

then don not show in report5. Using hooks- cut & torn bag6. Refilled cement bags

instead of DAP bags in mysore

7. Karimnagar rake unloading completed in 4 hours !!!

Page 28: Zuari Port Operations

Direct unloading& it’s Real Fact

• While making contract itself our top officials and the stevedores have agreed that if any direct unloading take place then the shortages of bags can not be accepted by the stevedore agent. (Mr.Arvind giri has confirmed it via phone to me)

At least 5 wagons should be unloaded into warf – in that any shortage/ excesses occur then have to take average of all wagons then only should claim PLR

Page 29: Zuari Port Operations

Suggestions

• imports from china leads to bad product quality

• Provide PP bags which gives consistency• Need a change in Bag colour • Direct unloading should be stopped• Need a change in bag stitching design which

should be able to withstand for hooks usage at rake destination points

Page 30: Zuari Port Operations

Conclusion • Few underweight might happen due to the

labour urgency to complete the work to get more wages as he bagged more bags but the ratio is very less

Wages = No.of bags * rate Rs 3.30 per bag• Bag quality is average came from Karaikal • Cargo has many lumps in which some of

them are breakable & some of them are unbreakable
