Appendices

The following is a list of file formats supported by ZoomBrowser EX.

Readable files

ZoomBrowser EX can read the following file formats.

■ JPEG files (.jpg)Most cameras use this file format. It compresses at very highratios, taking advantage of the characteristics of the humaneye. However, because it is an irreversible compression method(part of the data is lost during compression), if you process andsave an image repeatedly using this method, the image maybecome rougher.

■ RAW files (.crw)This format is a proprietary file format provided by Canon. Itsaves the output of the image pixels from a digital camerawithout any deterioration in the quality of the image. Somecameras might not support this file format.

■ Windows bitmap files (.bmp)This format comes standard with Windows. Most Windowsprograms support it.

■ TIFF files (.tif)This is a relatively popular format. It is widely supported by non-Windows programs (such as Macintosh).

■ PhotoCD files (.pcd)This is the format used by Photo CDs.

■ Video clip files (.avi)This is the standard Windows video file format. TheZoomBrowser EX Browsing Area will display a thumbnail imageand the video camera symbol. When you click the thumbnail or movie icon, QuickTime Playerstarts and plays the video clip. (You must install QuickTimePlayer before you can use it.)

■ QuickTime files (.mov)This is a movie file format. The file appears as a movie mark inthe Browsing Area of ZoomBrowser EX. When you click themovie mark, QuickTime Player starts and plays the movie. (Youmust install QuickTime Player before you can use it.)
