10.30 –11.30am Ukulele Begins with C Margaret Crichton

Is this you?

You’re starting to think you’re getting the hang of tuning your uke – most of the time!

You’re reasonably familiar with the chords C, F and G7.

Sound comes out when you strum the strings – sort of!

If you answered yes, or even maybe to any of those questions, then Margaret’s beginner’s workshop is for you. Join the class and get some more confidence, some new chords and some strumming tips. Play along to a couple of songs, secure in the knowledge that the only ones who can hear your playing are you and the cat – or dog, or teddy bear.

Come along and have some fun!

11.40—12.40pm Travis Picking for Fun & World Domination Dan McEoin

The Travis Pick is an essential tool in any acoustic musicians skill set.

From a very simple foundation, the variations and permutations of a Travis Pick are nearly endless. Just like playing the ukulele, you can reach initial success in learning a basic Travis Pick in under 10 minutes and then spend a lifetime improving on that initial success.

We are going to look at the most basic 4 string Travis Pick, build that up with some simple variations, add a few not so common chords to our skill base and take on one of the most iconic examples of Travis Picking in main-stream music—”Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.

Hope to see you there.

12.40—2.00pm LUNCH & Whiteboard Concert Nicki Johnson & Craig Barrie

3.10—4.10pm Song Writing Workshop (Song of the Century– The Game Show) Nicki Johnson & Craig Barrie

Dan MacEoin

Musician and Workshop Facilitator

Dan has been a student of music, theatre and circus for over three decades. He has been teaching these skills to primary school students for over two of those decades. He is currently writing this and feeling sort of old. The ukulele is a fantastic instrument with which to teach music theory. The students don't even realize they are doing work. They are too busy having fun and achieving a feeling of success. It is one of the few instruments that an absolute beginner can pick up and be playing a song off the radio (maybe not perfectly, but at least recogniza-bly) after just ten minutes of practice. That instant success is what keeps people in-terested in learning more. He is currently the music teacher at Emerald Primary School, the Chairperson of the Hills Ukulele Festival and the President of AUTLA (Australian Ukulele Teachers & Leaders As-sociation). The Travis Pick is an essential tool in any acoustic musician’s skill set. From a very simple foundation, the variations and permutations of a Travis Pick are nearly endless. Just like playing the ukulele, you can reach initial success in learning a basic Travis Pick in under 10 minutes and then spend a lifetime improving on that initial success. We are going to look at the most basic 4 string Travis Pick, build that up with some sim-ple variations, add a few not so common chords to our skill base and take on one of the most iconic examples of Travis Picking in mainstream music - ‘Landslide’ by Fleetwood Mac.
