Easter Chancel Decorations
Welcome to Rev. Dr. Elisabeth Baer
Zion Evangelical UCC’s 18th Pastor. Voted in unanimously on April 28, 2019
Greetings from Pastor Elisabeth
Thank you for the warm welcome to Zion UCC! One of the gifts that shines through at Zion is your hospitality: your embrace of God’s love and extending that to others! I have felt that gift as I’ve been welcomed throughout this time of discernment.
I look forward to working with this creative, talented community while always seeking God’s guidance for the future.
What do I find inspiring?
An outreach with an intentional emphasis on the healing modalities of body, mind and spirit: a claiming of the ancient ministries of the Church. The deep and impressive steadfast history of Zion: 170 years! A partnership among us recognizing that God is leading us onward and weaving us together into a community called Zion: Zion Church and Center. Interesting conversations that are thought-provoking and invitations to further dialogue.
May the month of May hold many Easter blessings for you and your loved ones!
~Pastor Elisabeth

Richard Ogilvy's Celebration of Life
by Neal Biggers
The basement dining area at Zion was packed to overflowing for the life celebration event in memory of Richard Ogilvy on the last Sunday afternoon in April. Throughout the event we kept pulling more chairs and tables out of storage. It was unlike anything I've experienced before. Richard had discussed plans for his memorial event with people close to him. It was an entire afternoon of engaging in the activities that Richard loved, including Qigong exercises, dancing, singing, eating, readings and sharing stories, lis-tening to a live band and rummaging thru tables full of books, music, artwork and household items from Richard's home that peo-ple could take as part of their remembering him. Among several books I got was a Bible with his name engraved on the front, given to him by First Presbyterian Church here in Evansville where his sister said they attended as children.
Several of our Zion church members had active roles in the celebration. Joann played accordion; Dixie sang a beautiful solo; Vernon, Pat, Kay, Missie and I participated in the singing, dancing, drumming, etc. Pastor Elisabeth and others brought a delicious dish for the meal.
Richard had helped lead the Spirit Share Group at Zion on Wednesday evenings. He attended Sunday morning worship on several occasions, although he regularly attended services elsewhere. He once recited the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic as part of a special ser-vice here. I knew him mainly from going to his Qigong classes at Zion for the past two and a half years, and some private massage sessions in which he “fixed” some rotator cuff problems I had. He taught me how to get life energy from the world around me: from the earth, bodies of water, the sky, the moon, the stars and from other people. These teachings affirm what we read in Gene-sis, that God's creation is good and is all about nourishing and empowering life. For the past year or so I've found myself turning to the practices Richard taught when standing at the beach or at a spectacular overlook in the mountains, or simply observing a sun-set on the Ohio River or a full moon or the “winter oval” of stars from my own back yard. He also taught me in concrete ways about “leaning into the pain” as a necessary part of healing and growing.
Thank you for all you taught us Richard, and for the shared life energy and healing through which you will continue to be with us. And thank you Zion for creating this vibrant community which has brought people like Richard and so many others together in this exciting quest for spiritual growth and healing.

The Flower Essences
Supporting the Emotional Component of Health & Wellness
Flowers have always been regarded and used as a symbol of beauty. When human beings first evolved upon the planet, they be-
gan to enjoy and draw from the nourishment provided through flowers. Seen in color, inhaled for their variety of scents, and in
many instances used as food, humanity has much to appreciate in connection with the support flowers provide. This article will
focus on the root associated with the development of homeopathic assistance flower essences provide.
“Edward Bach was an English doctor, bacteriologist, homeopath, and spiritual writer, best known for developing the Bach flower
remedies, a form of alternative medicine inspired by classical homeopathic traditions.” Wikipedia online. It was Dr. Edward Bach
who first recognized the potential of the flower essences as they could potentially serve his patients and their negative states
of mind. He noted that fear, anger, hopelessness, etc. depleting his patients vitality and interfered with their ability to resist infec-
tion and other illnesses.
He discerned that illness was a reflection of disharmony between the personality and the Higher Self or Soul. Bach felt that the
subtle vibrational energies of flower essences could assist in bring back that internal harmony by helping to correct the emotional
factors. In order to achieve this work, he moved away from the city and began his search in the English countryside. It is shared
that he became so in tune with the flowers energy that he could understand through experiencing the touch of dew upon his lips
the stats which each of the flowers would address.
He developed 38 flower remedies by placing the flower in a bowl of spring water for several hours in the sunlight. This “charged”
the water with the energetic imprint of the flower’s vibration. Today the work of Dr. Bach is supported throughout the world and
has grown in appreciation in support of healing assistance as the body works to renew and regenerate. Individuals will find Medical
Doctors, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists as well as providers like myself, Dr. of Natural Medicine growing in deeper appreciation for
the roots of the work began by Edward Bach, M.D.
The 7 emotional states observed by Dr. Bach Fear
Aspen, Mimulus, Cherry Plum, Rock Rose, Red Chestnut Uncertainty
Cerato, Scleranthus, Gentian, Gorse, Hornbeam, Wild Oat Insufficient interest in the present
Clematis, Honeysuckle, Wild Rose, Olive, White Chestnut, Mustard, Chestnut Bud Loneliness
Water Violet, Impatiens, Heather Over-sensitivity to outside influences and ideas
Agrimony, Centaury, Walnut, Holly Despondency
Larch, Pine, Elm, Sweet Chestnut, Star of Bethlehem, Willow, Oak, Crab Apple Overly concerned with the welfare of others
Chicory, Vervain, Vine, Beech, Rock Water Within the “Holistic” approach of assisting the body to return to homeostasis (the place of internal balance so function is optimal) individuals are encouraged to remain mindful of their interactions with others. It is shared, “nothing in excess” through many sa-cred texts, the flower essences encourage attention to this. Too much doing, too much running, too much giving, too much worry, as well as too much longing for things of the past will only serve to keep one out of the present where one is living and meant to be in celebration of living their life now. Now, when seen in true reality, is the only place where health is created. Namaste`
