1 Using IPS e.max CAD for Zenotec in Zenotec CAM

1.1 Creating the IPS e.matrix® multiholder in Zenotec CAM

The RFID label of IPS e.max CAD for Zenotec Refi lls is used for creating the IPS e.matrix multiholder in Zenotec CAM.

Make sure that no IPS e.matrix multiholder is loaded in the main dialog of Zenotec CAM before you place the RFID label on the

RFID reader. It might be necessary to load a disc into the main dialog fi rst.

Subsequently, place the RFID label on the RFID reader. Select the «Color group name» (A) and the «Color name» (A) for the

corresponding material and confi rm the message asking whether the blocks should be included in the software data base with

«OK» (B). The material blocks are stored in the data base.

Note:

The RFID labels must remain on the reader during the entire reading process.

Select the desired block size and block shade – e.g. IPS e.max CAD C14 – in the tree structure (B) and confi rm your selection

with «Place» (C).

1.3 Importing and preparing the milling fi le

Import a fi le into the work preparation of the Zenotec CAM software using the «Import» button (A). Assign the machine (B), the

material (C) and the indication (D). If this information is not supplied for an output format of the CAD software (e.g. STL), then

the buttons are shown in red.

If the machine, material and indication have already been defi ned, the buttons are shown in yellow. Select the milling strategy

for the restoration type under «Mill settings» (E). Depending on the output format of the CAD software, the insert directions and

the painting of occlusal surfaces must be set for the respective strategy.

For the STL output format, the information regarding cavities / insert directions has to be defi ned.

Note:

In the Wieland Zenotec CAM 4.0 output format (included in all Wieland Zenotec scanners), the information on cavities and insert directions is already included. However, please check this information again.

Note:

If the insert direction is incorrectly defi ned, inaccuracies of fi t occur.

If no continuous curve is found due to a poor STL fi le, a curve can be generated with the button «Edge threshold» (F) or with the

help of a painter surface. For this purpose, select the painter colour, e.g. «Extra cement» (G), in the menu «Painter» (E) and paint

the inner cavity either with mouse clicks or manual painting. A defi ned curve is generated by the coloured cavity, which is used

for setting the insert direction.

If an insert direction (H) has been incorrectly defi ned, it can be adjusted using the sliders (I). Adjust the insert so that a direct view

into the cavity is possible.

1.4 Nesting

Position the crown from the tooth browser within the generated block (A), mounted to the IPS e.matrix multiholder, using the

drag & drop function.

Note:

Nest the restoration as closely as possible to the block end to keep the milling time as short as possible and to ensure a suffi ciently stable connection to the holder.

The restoration is rotated by turning the mouse wheel. A 3-mm holding bar is automatically placed on the restoration.

You can change the height of the holding bar by double-clicking the holding bar and turning the mouse wheel.

Attach the holding bar to the longest surface of the restoration and the highest point of the tooth equator (B) to ensure optimum

processing of the tooth from top to bottom. The milling strategy has already been selected and is shown in window (C).

A modifi cation is not possible.

Note when using block rotation:

If you use the block rotation in Zenotec CAM, make sure that the block is also mechanically clamped in the IPS e.matrix multiholder with a 90° rotation.

Observe the block tolerances!

For restorations which fi t into the block only just, despite block rotation, the next bigger block size should be selected for safety reasons.

The block is rotated by 90° (E). The restoration is within the block dimensions (F).

1.5 Calculation & simulation

After nesting, forward the restoration to the calculation using the «Milling» button (A).

(A)

Once the calculation is complete, the milling paths must be verifi ed. The milling simulation visualizes areas that cannot be milled.

Thus, any possible errors which may cause fi tting inaccuracies or milling tool fractures can be directly identifi ed and prevented.
