“The long interview is one of the most powerful methods in the qualitative armoury. For certain
descriptive and analytical purposes, no instrument of enquiry is more revealing. The method can take us
into the mental world of the individual, to glimpse the categories and logic by which he or she sees the
world. It can also take us into the lifeworld of the individual, to see the content and pattern of daily
experience. The long interview gives us the opportunity to step into the mind of another person, to see
and experience the world as they do themselves.”
Grant McCracken, The long Interview

Objective:
Currently, Thailand is facing a deep transitioning period, and thus causes a violence struggle
within the country. These struggles tend to tear apart the fabric of the society.
SIU is one of organizing committee in the Scenario Thailand Project aiming for observing the
future scenario of the country. The project is comprised of at least 17 organization partners who are
committed to support project implementation over the long run. Namely:
• Thai Journalists Association
• Thai Broadcast Journalists Association
• Thai Health Promotion Foundation
• Thai National Reform Assembly
• National Defence College Association of Thailand
• Institute of Sufficiency Economy
• Civicnet Institute
• Thai Research Fund
• Council of University Presidents of Thailand
• ‘For Thai’ Foundation
• SCG Foundation
• Tourism Council of Thailand
• ‘The Boss’ Foundation
• Siam Intelligence Unit
• Thai Phirom Channel
• CTH cable networks
• Scenario Thailand Foundation
As a part of Scenario Thailand Project, a national project to use ‘Transformative Scenario
Planning’ in Thailand with the world-known facilitator named Adam Kahane, SIU will conduct similar
interviews using in the workshop for various leaders in Thailand regarding the challenge during their
administration period. We believe that leaders will make their decision correspond to the context they
live in, making decisions under conditions of risk and uncertainty. We hope that this interview can be a
part of making an understanding among various factions in the society to resolve the conflict. The
interview will be conducted in English around 30 minutes, and we will make a Thai subtitle on it. This
project aims to use this interview as a tool to make a communication to both Thai and Foreign audiences
around the world, in order to make them getting better understanding of the current development of
the situation, and to educate them the leadership through individual experience.
