ZEITRAUM Furniture – now in colours

2013 geht ZEITRAUM neue Wege und bleibt sich dabei dennoch

treu. Erstmals bieten wir den Großteil unserer Möbel auch in aus-

gewählten Farben an – ohne das zu verstecken, wofür ZEITRAUM

steht: Holz. Dessen natürliche Struktur und Tiefe bleiben dank auf-

wändiger Beiztechnik trotz Farbe weiterhin sichtbar. Mit der neuen

Farbpalette erweitern wir unsere Kollektion um eine Vielzahl an

Möglichkeiten.

Aber nicht nur das. Es gibt auch eine Reihe neuer Entwürfe und

Produktvarianten, die wir Ihnen auf den folgenden Seiten gerne vor-

stellen möchten. Wir wünschen Ihnen viel Freude beim Entdecken!

In 2013 ZeItraum will be blazing new

trails and yet remain true to itself. For the

first time, we are offering the majority of

our collection in selected colours – with out

hiding what ZeItraum stands for: Wood!

although in colour, its natural texture and

depth remain visible thanks to a sophistica-

ted staining technique. the new colour

palette expands our collection to in clude a

wide range of possibilities.

signs and versions of our products, which

we would like to present to you on the

Your ZeItraum team

Pelle is a hybrid: half Italian and half

Scandinavian. On one hand, its name is

taken from ‘Pelle,’ the Italian word for pelt

or leather. On the other hand, ‘Pelle’ is a

figure from “Vacation on Seacrow Island,”

a story by Scandinavian author, astrid

lindgren. Designed by Catharina lorenz

and Steffen Kaz (Studio lorenz*Kaz) in

milan, the chair with its semi-circular back

and armrests reflects the design language

of Scandinavian classics. What sets Pelle

apart is the freely suspended seat, made

from saddle leather. It is also refined in

the leather-bound aluminium inlay used to

shape the seat. this solution stabilises the

chair without taking away the flexibility

typical for leather. With Pelle we decided

to return to beech for once – a wood asso-

ciated with the early years of ZeItraum –

because we find the combination between

beech and the natural leather to be espe-

cially appealing.

PEllE ist ein Mischling: zur einen Hälfte Italiener, zur anderen Skan-

dinavier. Sein Name bezieht sich einerseits auf das italienische Pelle

im Sinne von Haut oder leder. Andererseits verweist Pelle auf eine

Figur aus „Ferien auf Saltkrokan“, eine Geschichte der skandinavi-

schen Schriftstellerin Astrid lindgren. Entworfen von Catharina lorenz

und Steffen Kaz (Studio lorenz*Kaz) in Mailand, zitiert der Stuhl mit

seiner halbrunden Rücken- und Armlehne die Formensprache skan-

dinavischer Klassiker. Das Besondere an PEllE: sein frei hängender

Sitz aus Kernleder. Raffiniert ist auch die im leder eingearbeitete

Schale aus Aluminium zur Ausformung der Sitzfläche, die den Stuhl

stabilisiert ohne ihm die ledertypische Flexibilität zu nehmen. Mit

PEllE lassen wir erstmals wieder Buche aufleben, ein Holz aus den

Anfangsjahren von ZEITRAUM, weil wir finden, dass die Kombination

aus Buche und naturfarbenem leder besonders reizvoll ist.

E8 ist ein Londoner!

E8 – named after a postcode

this table was designed by mathias Hahn

and named after the postcode – east 8 –

of the designer’s former home in london.

It was there that the model for this design

stood for years: a makeshift table dating

from the post-war era, thrown together

from different varieties of wood – narrow,

long and with overhangs.

the format appealed to mathias Hahn so

much that he used it as the basis for his

own design. >>

Den Tisch hat der Designer Mathias Hahn nach der Postleitzahl –

East 8 – seines damaligen Wohnortes in london benannt. Denn dort

stand jahrelang das Vorbild: ein provisorisch aus unterschiedlichen

Hölzern zusammengebauter Tisch aus der Nachkriegszeit – schmal,

lang und mit Überhängen. Das Format überzeugte Mathias Hahn so

sehr, dass er es für seinen eigenen Entwurf neu interpretierte. >>

>> the result is called e8, a table that also

stands out thanks to its narrowness,

length and extreme projections at each

end. all of the surfaces are coloured with

the exception of the table top. What ma-

kes it practical: thanks to its long working

surface, the table can be used as a kitchen

table or a work table as required. It can

easily be combined with a stool or chair,

for example from our 1.3 Series, designed

by Kihyun Kim.

>> Das Entwurfsergebnis ist E8, ein Tisch, der ebenfalls durch seine

Schmalheit, länge und extreme Überhänge an den Enden auffällt.

Sämtliche Oberflächen sind farbig, mit Ausnahme der Oberseite der

Tischplatte. Das Praktische: dank seiner langen Fläche kann man

den Tisch gleichzeitig als Küchen- und als Arbeitstisch verwenden.

Gut kombinieren kann man ihn zum Beispiel mit dem Hocker oder

dem Stuhl aus unserer 1.3 Serie, entworfen von Kihyun Kim.

Das prägnanteste Merkmal des zierlichen, leichten 1.3 CHAIR ist die feine Konturlinie, durch die sein Sitz- und Rückenteil hauchdünn erscheint. Neuerdings bieten wir die 1.3 Serie auch mit Sitzflächenpolsterung in Leder oder Stoff an (im Bild vorne rechts).

the most striking feature of the graceful, lightweight 1.3 CHaIr is the fine contours that make the seat and back seem ultrathin. recently, the 1.3 Series also became available with seat upholstery in leather or fabric (see picture on the front right).

You‘ve never seen solid wood furniture

like this from ZeItraum before? that’s

correct because now we begin offering

the majority of our collection in a range

of colours in addition to the designs in

natural wood. the palette consists of ten

different stains on the basis of oak – five

grey shades, chalk white and four spot

colours. the staining technique used ensu-

res that the natural texture of the wood

surface remains visible, even though it is

stained. We developed the colour palette

together with our long-standing partner,

Formstelle.

Nature served as the design inspiration for

the natural shades of grey, in more exact

terms, the greying stages of wood that are

caused by weathering.

grau. So haben Sie die Massivholzmöbel von ZEITRAUM noch nie

gesehen? Richtig, denn neuerdings bieten wir einen Großteil unserer

Kollektion neben den Ausführungen in natürlichen Hölzern auch in

Farben an. Die Palette umfasst zehn Beizen auf der Basis von Eiche –

fünf Grautöne, Kalkweiß sowie vier Schmuck farben. Die Beiztechnik

sorgt dafür, dass die natürliche Oberflächenstruktur des Holzes trotz

Farbe weiterhin sichtbar bleibt. Die Farb palette haben wir zusammen

mit unserem langjährigen Partner, Formstelle entwickelt.

Als Vorbild für die Graunuancen diente die Natur, genauer die witter-

ungsbedingten Vergrauungsstadien von Holz.

ZeItraum furniture is unique. this is en-

sured by the natural texture of the wood

including the colour variations. Over time

the furniture develops a patina and cha-

racter of its own. this approach, which is

our trademark, is something we wanted to

remain faithful to in terms of colours. For

this reason, we have decided on stains

because the staining technique does not

‘cover up’ the natural structure of the

wood. Its semi-transparent visuals are

typical. However, the surface treatment is

sophisticated, requiring a keen sense of

craftsmanship, which means it cannot be

automated.

ZEITRAUM Möbel sind Unikate. Dafür sorgt die natürliche Maserung

des Holzes inklusive ihres Farbspiels. Im laufe der Zeit entwickeln

die Möbel Patina und einen eigenen Charakter. Diesem Ansatz,

unserem Markenzeichen, wollten wir auch in puncto Farben treu

bleiben. Aus diesem Grund haben wir uns für Beizen entschieden,

weil die Beiztechnik die natürliche Struktur des Holzes weiterhin

sichtbar lässt. Typisch ist seine semi-transparente Optik. Allerdings

ist die Oberflächenbehandlung aufwändig, erfordert handwerkliches

Fingerspitzengefühl und kann daher nicht automatisiert werden.

Beine machen Möbel! Wie sehr Beine ein Möbel verändern können,

beweist die neue Untergestell-Variante Atelierfuß für unsere Side-

boards. Entwickelt wurde die 25 cm hohe, bockartige Konstruktion

für lOW, PODEST, PODEST TV und SIDE von Claudia Kleine und Jörg

Kürschner aka Formstelle.

a piece of furniture is found in the new

under-frame version atelierfuß for our

sideboards. the 25 cm trestle-like const-

ruction for lOW, PODeSt, PODeSt tV and

SIDe was developed by Claudia Kleine

and Jörg Kürschner, a.k.a. Formstelle.

Voilà, our first edition! It consists of

mOrPH chairs with three different printed

motifs. this was created in collaboration

with the interior designer Friederike

Klesper. She has considerable experience

of embedding prints into wood without

covering up its natural structure, enabling

the material of wood to remain tangible.

It is an approach that matches well with

the ZeItraum philosophy.

the motifs originate from Chinese posters

dating from the 1920s. like tattoos on skin

these prints tell stories and lend the chairs

a character of their own. they are applied

to the veneer using a special printing

procedure, and protected against external

influences and uV light by a protective

coating. the mOrPH edition is limited to

100 units per motif.

Voilà, unsere erste Edition! Sie umfasst drei mit unterschiedlichen

Motiven bedruckte MORPH-Stühle. Entstanden ist sie in Zusammen-

arbeit mit der Innenarchitektin Friederike Klesper. Sie beschäftigt

sich schon lange damit, Drucke in Holz einzubetten ohne dabei

die natürliche Struktur abzudecken, so dass das Material Holz als

solches spürbar bleibt. Ein Ansatz, der gut zur Philosophie von

ZEITRAUM passt.

Die Motive stammen von chinesischen Plakaten aus den 1920er

Jahren. Wie Tattoos auf der Haut erzählen sie Geschichten und

ver leihen den Stühlen einen eigenen Charakter. Über ein spezielles

Druckverfahren werden sie auf das Furnier aufgebracht und durch

einen schützenden lack vor äußeren Einflüssen und UV-licht

geschützt. Die MORPH Edition ist auf eine Auflage von 100 Stück

pro Motiv limitiert.

Das MEllOW DAyBED ist liege und Sitzgelegenheit in einem. Mit

ihren weichen Rückenkissen und einer Rolle eignet sich die Chaise-

longue zum Verweilen. Schlanke Materialstärken, feine linien und

der zierliche Rahmen mit seiner raffinierten Kernlederschnürung im

Rücken prägen den Charakter. Neben Dunkelbraun und Natur gibt es

die lederschnüre jetzt auch in Pastellrot und Pastellrauchblau.
