    THE GATHERING

    Stand All people that on earth do dwellWilliam Kethe (d 1594)

    NEH 334

    All All people that on earth do dwell,Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;

    Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell,

    Come ye before him, and rejoice.

    The Lord, ye know, is God indeed,Without our aid he did us make;

    We are his folk, he doth us feed,

    And for his sheep he doth us take.

    O enter then his gates with praise,

    Approach with joy his courts unto;

    Praise, laud, and bless his name always,

    For it is seemly so to do.

    For why? the Lord our God is good:

    His mercy is for ever sure;

    His truth at all times firmly stood,

    And shall from age to age endure.

    To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,The God whom heaven and earth adore,

    From men and from the Angel-host

    Be praise and glory evermore. Amen.

    Sit Reading

    1 Kings 8.22-23, 41-43

    Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the

    presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his

    hands to heaven. He said, O LORD, God of Israel, there is

    no God like you in heaven above or on earth beneath,

    keeping covenant and steadfast love for your servants

    who walk before you with all their heart,

    Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of your people

    Israel, comes from a distant land because of your name

    for they shall hear of your great name, your mighty

    hand, and your outstretched armwhen a foreigner

    comes and prays towards this house, then hear in heaven

    your dwelling-place, and do according to all that the

    foreigner calls to you, so that all the peoples of the earthmay know your name and fear you, as do your people

    Israel, and so that they may know that your name has

    been invoked on this house that I have built.

    This is the word of the Lord

    All Thanks be to God

    The GospelLuke 7.1-10

    Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according

    to Luke.All Glory to you, O Lord

    After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the

    people, he entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a

    slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to

    death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish

    elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave.When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly,

    saying, He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he

    loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for

    us. And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far

    from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him,

    Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to

    have you come under my roof; therefore I did not

    presume to come to you. But only speak the word, andlet my servant be healed. For I also am a man set under

    authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, Go,

    and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, andto my slave, Do this, and the slave does it.

    When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning

    to the crowd that followed him, he said, I tell you, not

    even in Israel have I found such faith. When those who

    had been sent returned to the house, they found the

    slave in good health.

    This is the Gospel of the Lord.

    All Praise to you, O Christ.

    We keep silence.

    Stand The Creed

    Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and

    Holy Spirit.

    All We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

    of all that is,

    seen and unseen.

    We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ

    the only Son of God,

    eternally begotten of the Father,

    God from God, Light from Light,

    true God from true God,

    begotten, not made,

    of one Being with the Father;

    through him all things were made.For us and for our salvation he came down

    from heaven,

    was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the

    Virgin Mary

    and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under

    Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried.

    On the third day he rose again

    in accordance with the Scriptures;

    he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father.

    He will come again in glory to judge the livingand the dead,

    and his kingdom will have no end.

    We believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the Lord, the giver of life,

    who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

    who with the Father and the Son is worshipped

    and glorified,

    who has spoken through the prophets.

    We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness

    There is no place where earths sorrows

    Are more felt than up in heaven;

    There is no place where earths failingsHave such kindly judgement given.

    For the love of God is broader

    Than the measure of mans mind;

    And the heart of the Eternal

    Is most wonderfully kind.

    But we make his love too narrow

    By false limits of our own;

    And we magnify his strictness

    With a zeal he will not own.

    There is plentiful redemption

    In the blood that has been shed;

    There is joy for all the members

    In the sorrows of the Head.

    There is grace enough for thousands

    Of new worlds as great as this;

    There is room for fresh creations

    In that upper home of bliss.

    If our love were but more simple,

    We should take him at his word;

    And our lives would be all gladnessIn the joy of Christ our Lord.

    From the beginning you have created all things

    and all your works echo the silent music of your praise.

    In the fullness of time you made us in your image,the crown of all creation.

    You give us breath and speech, that with

    angels and archangels

    and all the powers of heaven

    we may find a voice to sing your praise:

    All Holy, holy, holy Lord,God of power and might,

    heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.

    Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

    Hosanna in the highest.

    How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord.

    As a mother tenderly gathers her children,

    you embraced a people as your own.When they turned away and rebelled

    your love remained steadfast.

    From them you raised up Jesus our Saviour,

    born of Mary,

    to be the living bread,

    in whom all our hungers are satisfied.

    He offered his life for sinners,and with a love stronger than death

    he opened wide his arms on the cross.

    On the night before he died,

    he came to supper with his friends

    Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;do this in remembrance of me.

    At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine,

    he gave you thanks, and said:
