Special Thanks to all our donors for making all our summer programs and camps a “Big Success”. We were able to reach out to over 120 youth through KAA, SOS, Reading, Math & Day Camps. Without your prayers and donations, our youth would not have been given the opportunities to have life changing experiences and Christian guidance to strength their foundation in God.
We are proud to announce that we have created our new “5 Star Program” which will cover physical fitness, food nutrition, self esteem, abstinence, and education. Our primary focus this fall will be on Education due to the prob-lems of our Educational school systems. We are working harder each school year with our tutoring and reading programs using our computer room, of-fering Rock’N Reading for the younger youth and collaborating with St. Mary’s School for our high school youth.
The “5 Star Program” is just part of YSE’s ongoing effort to encourage, equip, and help our youth to strive for excellence. Support from the commu-nity and our donors make these types of programs possible. If you are inter-ested in supporting out ongoing programs, please call the office at (901) 386-9300.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of YSE is to en-courage youth to build a strong relationship with God, family and peers by
breaking negative life cycles and teaching life skills. We conduct Bible Studies, build self-respect, promote sexual
abstinence and academic excellence.

Kirby, a former Youth Striving for Excellence Alumni, is currently a sophomore at Trevecca University pursuing
a degree in Criminal Law. “Job Readiness” is one of the best programs offered to youth. When I first came to
YSE, I was very introverted and reserved. I had to do a “2 minute commercial”, which is a brief synopsis of your-
self. While telling what you can offer to a company whose job opening you are applying. I was nervous when I
had to get up in front of the class, so I prepared myself for the new adventure. After completing my commercial, I
was told by the teacher and classmates that I did a great job. After hearing those encouraging words, it motivated
me to step out of my shell. “Job Readiness” teach you how to prepare a resume, dress properly, displaying proper
body language and tone of voice during an interview.

ABSTINENCE PROGRAM sponsored by Diversified Conveyors, Inc.
During the last eleven years the YSE Abstinence Program has proven to be successful with
no teen pregnancies of those who actively participated in the program. Despite all the negative press in Memphis on teen pregnancies, YSE received positive television coverage
of our Covenant Ceremony from ABC 24 News. We offer a month long Preventive
Awareness Series, Parent Power Sessions educating our parents about issues that teens
face today. In addition to seminars, retreats, and guest speakers are offered to the youth
through out the year on sexual abstinence.

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel,
for it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes, to the Jew
first and also to the Greek. For in it
the righteousness of God is revealed
from faith for faith, as it is written,
‘The righteous shall live by faith.”
