Monday MadnessOver the summer holidays Threshold youth team organised 4 activity days, each on a Monday. We would like to say a huge thank you to The Protheroeʼs for hosting one of these days and also to Ben Southall, Ruth Daly-Roy and Roy Ealden who volunteered to help run them.

Everyone arrived at m house at about 10 o’clock. We first started off by having a few hours on the huge bouncy castle having a massive water fight. By the time we were finished we were all quite hungry so we had lunch which was a picnic outside. After lunch we went on the trampoline and taught Ali to do a back flip and nearly a front flip. Some people were back on the bouncy castle but others had gone inside to watch a film called Son of Rambo which is pretty funny! By the end of the day we were all really knackered!

On 10/08 we went to Frontline Combat at the Lincolnshire showground and we all had a fantastic time, it was so much fun. Firstly we were split into 2 teams, a red team and a blue team. I was on the blue team and we kicked the red teams bottoms! We won practically every time!! One of my funniest moments was when I had just shot Rosie and she had no lives left. I then started running with the flag and Rosie couldn't catch up to grab the flag so my team won the game. We then had a great BBQ on the site. We all had a great time and I hope we can go again very soon.

As part of the Monday Madness project put on by Threshold youth workers, some of us went to the creative day, at Sudbrooke Village Hall. Anna, Jo, Ben, Roy and Ruth had organised loads of stuff for us to do.Roy had got loads of loo roll tubes, which we made into giant crosses and painted. He had also made a wooden cross and had wrapped it in chicken wire, so that we could slap clay from his garden on to it. I don’t think Anna planned on getting messy- but we soon sorted that out!Ruth had outlined on some banners for us to paint. One had the Access logo on it, another had a cross, made out of jigsaw pieces on it, we each personalised two pieces, and the last banner had a multicoloured heart on it. Jo had us making bookmarks with thread and binka. We also started making very complicated, but very pretty bracelets- I still haven’t finished mine!I really enjoyed the creative day and it was a great way to get my friend involved in Access.

CREATIVE DAY

At Threshold they have been doing some fantastic fun days on Monday during the holidays. Iʼm going to talk about the creative day they did. The boys and the girls went into groups and the girls started off with some muddy clay from Royʼs garden!! We put all the clay onto a wire skeleton and got really mucky and as girls we were very screamish!! When we had done that we moved on to panting a cross made out of toilet roll. After doing the mucky activities we had lunch and then got back to

business. The boys went and did the mucky activities when the girls went and decorated the new “Access: banner brilliantly drawn by Ben and Ruth. We then moved on to do more girlie activities with Jo and sewed crosses and then made beautiful friendship bracelets with some beautiful colours. Wel that was a fantastic day put together by our youth leaders thanks so much!!

Baptisms at the Beach.

Recently I got baptised, which is an experience I will never forget! Anna Hagens had an amazing idea to have the baptism at the beach! At first that was the only reason I decided to get dunked, but then something happened which made me really excited to commit my life to God. I went on a Synergy Impact trip over a half term not knowing what to expect or to happen to me. It turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences I've had. I already made the decision to be baptised before the trip but had not a real reason why I really really wanted too. Over the week I had many encouraging people tell me what God thought they were saying to me, how something huge would happen to me during that week, and it was true! I've never really experienced the Holy Spirit but that week I felt it and just loved God! After that week I knew that I desperately wanted to be baptised, I knew it was the right time in my life, and I wanted to commit for myself fully. As the weeks grew closer to my baptism, it was a struggle knowing soon I’ll be doing something that will have a huge impact on my life, but I had great people around me encouraging me and getting me hyped up for the day! When the day finally came, I was so excited, one for the fact I was going into the sea to do this but the other I was doing something so great in my christian life. I didn't have a clue what I was going to say but when I got up there to share my testimony it just came out! I felt great! I loved having good friends of mine also sharing this day with me. My friends and family came to watch and they encouraged me and made the day really special. Ever since the baptism I feel like a new person! I've had the courage to just talk about God to others, inviting them to things, such as grapevine where a couple of my friends came! which is just amazing! I can't wait to see what God has planned for my life!!! :) Being baptised really was a huge thing for me and it made me feel just great!

Rosie Fane

When I was about 4, I became a Christian. I have been brought up with Christian parents and a strong Christian network around me, so when I decided to get baptised, it hardly came as a shock to everyone! Since I was 12 I had wanted to get baptised but had never really found the right time, then, when I heard about this baptism I knew that this was the perfect time. I was really worried about standing up in front of everyone because when I talk about God in front of loads of people, I usually get very emotional and I REALLY didn't want to cry in front everyone!! Thankfully, I pulled through and managed to do it, without blubbing! The week after my baptism was amazing, I was very pleased with my decision to get baptised and I felt closer to God than ever before!

ROMANIA ’09 Ruth Daly-Roy, Jo Smith, Daniel Eaglen

and Alistair Gilfillan

We got to Romania on the 13 of August about 1pm their time which is 11am here and Csaba picked us up. We went to theirs for some lunch and then we went in to the city to have a look around. It was nice and very hot. Then we went back to the YMCA centre and we ordered some pizza for tea which we ate at 10pm and then we sang and played games and went to bed late.

On the Friday we went to paint the Children's Home. We were in two groups: one group took the kids out and the other got on and painted and on the next day we swapped over and the other group took the kids out. And then we had to say good bye which was sad. Later on we went out for tea.

On Sunday we travelled down to the English camp which was a long and hot drive. Then we set up and on the Monday we met

the young people and we we spilt them into groups. We did worship and English classes all through the week but we had time off on Thursday and went swimming. It was hot and most of us spent the time asleep in the sun and got sun burnt! On Saturday we said goodbye and then travelled back to the YMCA centre where we spent our last night before coming home. We landed back in the UK on Sunday morning at 8:20am English time.

We had an awesome time in Romania! Most of the tIme we were there we were running an English camp, which including teaching English lessons, sports and crafts, devotions and in the evenings we had a mini ‘Synergy’, including games, worship, a talk, testimonies and time to reflect/respond/pray (everything was translated into Hungarian in case anyone didn’t understand, but on the whole their English was pretty good) The young people we were working with were mostly between 13- 20, and for most of them this concept of church was completely new to them. We had the privilege of attending a service at a typical Hungarian Reformed church on the Sunday before the camp started, which was a very traditional church, with men sat on one side and women on the other, and traditional hymns and prayers. So it was great to chat to people at the camp about their churches and they were very interested to hear about ours and the way we do things.

At the camp the young people responded really well to everything, even though for a lot of them it was a new experience, and we all had a great week together! It was fantastic to be able to pray with individuals who had never been prayed for before, and to talk to them about God and tell them about what he’s done in our lives. We were amazed to hear people’s stories and to hear how God had been working in so many people’s lives throughout the week, and it was so fantastic to be a part of it all. So thanks so much to everyone who was praying for us, we really appreciate it!

Over the last few months Atrium have been looking at key questions that underpin our faith, debating them and forming our own opinions. The idea behind this being that when we face difficulty, we have truths that we have already thought through and questioned to cling to. We've also had plenty of exciting news - Tom and Kylie have announced their engagement and Adam, Jen and Hannah all have places at university! Things are going well in the atrium camp! Ben Atkins

Before Grapevine i didnʼt know what to think other than it being extremely godly! We both thought it would be quite awkward and didnʼt think we would fit in. But when we pulled up and saw all the people we thought wow!!! We also didnʼt know there would be so many young people just like us wanting to join in. We started to get really excited and couldnʼt wait to see what the first meeting was about. As we stood outside the venue we couldnʼt believe how friendly and happy people were. As we stood in the large crowd we didnʼt know if we should sing or not. I started looking at others around and saw them with their hands up. they were totally in focus as if they were the only person there. Somebody in front got filled with the Holy Spirit but we thought they had fainted. Nobody was helping them and I didnʼt know what to think but she seemed ok. We then started to feel more comfortable and sang out closed our eyes and got in the zone. We eventually both took the next step and opened our arms in worship. We both felt really strange but I couldnʼt stop smiling. I felt like everyone was looking at us but I soon realised that no one cared what we were doing as they were all worshiping God. It really touched me today when Jeff Lucas was talking about letting yourself be free from regret and shame, he called out to people who this related to I jumped to my feet without even realising. I felt all tingly and relieved and felt that I was in the right place. We both couldnʼt camp this year but are soooo psyched for next year! This year we are both going to start going to Threshold in Nettleham and are so excited to see whatʼs happening in the next year.

GRAPEVINE 09

This year at Grapevine I was on the synergy team. It's been my fifth year and was really excited and expecting big things to happen. This year has been truly amazing, I went to serve the young people who went to synergy however I have come back feeling so blessed myself! Synergy has had such energy around it, this year in particular. It has been an absolute blast worshipping with over 400 young people who have such a passion for God. It's so inspiring to see the impact God has had already from the 4 days we were on the Showground. People were healed, depression, addictions and whole load of other personal issues were prayed into and totally broken. Peoples barriers were completely knocked out the park, real issues that most people don't dare touch were spoken about and so many people responded in every service it was absolutely incredible to watch God move right in front of me. I canʼt put into words how amazing Grapevine has been, I just know that God has planted so many seeds and has sent out hundreds of young people hungry to know more of him and to spread his love!
