Youth DanceKathak: Performing Stories for Social Change (Ages 8-13)Kathak is a graceful yet powerful classical dance form hailing from the North of India. This course will introduce students to the basics of the art’s history and techniques, as well as discuss how Kathak can be used to make positive impact in the sphere of gender equality. There will also be opportunities for students to perform a short choreography and engage in community service!

Youth Visual Arts ClassesCartoon Sketching Anime & Manga Characters and Creatures (Ages 5-12)Sharpen eye-hand coordination and drawing skills while creating characters and fantasy creatures found in action and super hero movies, Japanese animation, and comic books. Create a cast and design a world to tell your own stories through comics or illustrated mini books. Class is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students that wish to continue to refine their sketching skills and try new art materials. Listed subtitles are flexible enough, so that each student may focus on the theme of their preference. A $5 materials fee is due to instructor at first class for a sketching kit that would include a suitable drawing pencil, inking pen, artist eraser, and card stock to work on.

Parent/Child Clay workshops!These workshops are a great way to get creative with your child. Each workshop will allow your child, with your assistance, to create their very own ceramic artwork. Take one, or take them all! Because the projects need to be fired, artwork will be available for pick up about two weeks after the workshop.

Triangle Youth Ballet Stage one at DAC

Triangle Youth Ballet is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to train dancers and to instill a deeper understanding of dance arts in our community. TYB offers professional training to aspiring dancers through classes, training workshops and performance opportunities. Through their repertory ballet company, TYB provides professional performance experience and the essential element for community outreach programs. The Triangle Youth Ballet is a performing member of the Southeast Regional Ballet Association and Regional Dance America. Since TYB’s founding in 1995, we have presented over 100 Nutcracker Ballets

our Stage one Ballet Classes are an introduction to dance through a ballet-based creative movement for boys and girls. Using music, movement and make-believe, students develop their dance skills. Young dancers experiment with new ways to move their bodies, both directed and free-form, with attention to musicality and rhythm. Age-appropriate cognitive skills, such as counting, sequential organization, spatial awareness and comparative abstract concepts are woven into the class structure.

Christiana Barnett-Murphy has had a passion for dance since childhood. She began dancing professionally while in high school with 2 Near the Edge Dance Company in the ongoing production “Night of Renewal”, which was performed throughout the North Carolina region including First Night Raleigh, Duke University, and The University of North Carolina. She also has performed with the Duke Repertory Company in works by Andrea E. Woods Valdes and Ava Lavonne Vinesett, and with Dendy Dance Theater at the grand re-opening of the North Carolina Museum of Art. Christiana has attended the American Dance Festival for six summers and has had the opportunity to learn from and perform with some of the best in Modern and Contemporary dance. During the summers of 2012 and 2013, Christiana was the personal assistant to ADF faculty member, Jesse Zaritt. In 2012, Christiana was awarded the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Grant to create and perform her solo dance project, “Burning”. Born in Southern California, but raised in Durham, North Carolina, Christiana’s eclectic history feeds her perspective and work. http://christianabm.com/
