FINES FOR SERIOUS FISHING AND HUNTING INFRACTIONS IN-CREASEDgov.ca - The Government of Saskatche-wan has made significant changes to the fine structure for unlawful hunting and fishing activities. “Hunting, fishing and trapping are an integral part of Saskatchewan’s heritage, and these changes send a clear message that these resources are valued and will be protected,” Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “In some instances fines for serious resource infractions have been doubled. We hope these increased
penalties will serve as a deterrent to those who consider abusing our resources in the future.” The changes are a result of a survey of anglers and hunters in 2012, and from a recommendation by the government’s Red Tape Reduction committee. A scan of surrounding jurisdictions in-dicated that doubling fines for more se-rious offences would bring Saskatchewan in line or ahead of most other jurisdic-tions for comparable violations. “Hunters and anglers contribute a great deal of time, money, and effort to con-serve our natural resources,” Chevelday-

off said. “Our hunting and angling laws are designed to achieve management objectives and to ensure the ethical har-vest of our fish and wildlife.” Changes to hunting infraction fines include:• Unlawful hunting has increased from $500, to $1,000, plus animal or bird fee.• Unlawful possession has increased from $500, to $1,000, plus animal or bird fee.• Exceeding wildlife limit has increased from $200, to $400 plus animal or bird fee.• Unlawful use of a vehicle for hunting has increased from $500, to $1,000, plus animal or bird fee.• Loaded firearm in a vehicle has in-creased from $200 to $400.• Leaving edible game in the field in-creased from $100, plus animal or bird fee to $200, plus animal or bird fee.• The animal or bird fee has also in-creased. These fees have risen from $50 to $500 and now range from $100 to $1,000, depending upon the species.
Changes to fishing infraction fines in-clude:• Angling during closed times has in-creased from $200, plus $25/fish to a maximum of $1,000 to $400, plus $50/fish to a maximum of $2,000.• Exceeding angling limits has in-creased from $100, plus $25/fish to a maximum of $1,000 to $200, plus $50/fish to a maximum of $2,000.Selling fish taken by angling has in-creased from $250, plus $25/fish to a maximum of $1,000 to $500, plus $50/fish to a maximum of $2,000.
• Wasting fish has increased from $100, plus $25/fish to a maximum $1,000 to $200, plus $50/fish to a maximum $2,000.• Possessing or using live fish for bait has increased from $200 to $400.• Use of prohibited methods for fish-ing has increased from $150, plus $25/fish to a maximum $1,000 to $300, plus $50/fish to a maximum $2,000. These illegal activities not only rob law-abiding hunters and anglers of game and fish, they waste business and taxpayer revenue, and deny others the opportunity to see and experience all of the natural resources that Saskatch-ewan has to offer. The changes are timely, as the fine structure for unlawful hunting dates back to 2000, and the fisheries infrac-tions date to the mid-1990s. If you suspect wildlife, fisheries, en-vironmental or forestry violations, call the local Ministry of Environment of-fice, Saskatchewan’s toll-free Turn In Poachers line at 1-800-667-7561 or #5555 for SaskTel cell phone subscrib-ers, or report a violation online at www.saskatchewan.ca/conservation. Callers may be eligible for cash rewards from the SaskTip Reward Program. The Ministry of Environment pro-vides science-based solutions, compli-ance and mitigation measures aimed at protecting the environment, safeguard-ing communities and helping to ensure a better quality for life for all Saskatch-ewan residents.

One day, a Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engi-neer, Chemical Engineer and Computer Engineer
were driving down the street in the same car. All of a sudden, the car broke down.
The Mechanical Engineer said, “I think a rod broke.” The Chemical Engineer said, “The way it sputtered
at the end, I don’t think it’s getting gas.” The Electrical Engineer said, “I think there was a
spark and something is wrong with the electrical system.”
All three turned to the computer engineer and said, “What do you think?”
The Computer Engineer said, “I think we should all get out and get back in.”

When winter’s here, I want to hibernate. Spend evenings huddled on the sofa with a heated blanket, a cup of tea and a good book. Toss ingredients into the slow cooker and eat soups and stews for dinner. Wear comfy, fuzzy pajamas and slippers. (Come to think of it, the heavy food might have something to do with the desire to hibernate). But once the holidays are over, sometimes it feels like a long, dull wait before spring arrives. Deep cleaning my house doesn’t even cross my mind. Then as the weather starts to warm up, I emerge from my cave (so to speak) and realize that the basic cleaning routine I go through every week is mostly just scratching the surface. Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal; why not make that go for your house as well? Spring cleaning is a time-honored ritual for a reason -- the fresh air and green-ery outdoors make us want to prettify our indoor spaces, too. It just makes us feel better. But if the mere thought seems overwhelming, here are a few tips to get you started.
2. ExPIRED? RETIRED!
Grocery stores use a system called FIFO (first in, first out) to rotate products with a limited shelf life so that they’ll sell before they spoil. We should take a cue from businesses and save ourselves both frustration and money, and yet, many of us don’t. There are probably expired products lurking in your pantry and medicine cabinet right now. When you’re spring cleaning your pantry, don’t just pull everything out and put it back in. Actually check out those jars, cans and boxes. Pretty much everything has an expiration date. Whether something like pasta is still good past its date is up to you, but awareness is a good thing. You may be periodically cleaning out the fridge anyway, but sometimes we forget about the condiments. They have a longer shelf life most of the time due to ingre-dients like vinegar and those fantastic preservatives, but that life must come to an end at some point. When in doubt, throw it out. While you’re at it, consider a new organizational system so you don’t keep buying cinnamon because you can’t find it and assume you’re out. The medicine cabinet and your other bathroom storage areas also need to be purged of old stuff. Expired medicine can be dangerous at worst and ineffective at best. Cosmetics don’t have expiration dates, but liquid-based ones especially can harbor bacteria and should go in three to six months. If it looks or smells bad, let it go.

Three young boys were boasting about their grandpas. The first boy said: “My grandpa is a great swimmer. He can swim for hours before getting out of the water!” The second boy said, “That’s nothing. My
grandpa always goes swimming at 6:00 in the morning every day, and only comes back at 9:00 pm because my mom says he has to!” The third boy says, “Your grandpas are both bad at swimming! My grandpa start-ed swimming in this pond 20 years ago, and he hasn’t come out since!!!”
