Ministry of New was born out of a need to work in a more inspiring, collabora-tive work environment. Co-founders Marlies Bloemendaal and Natascha Chadha – both Dutch nationals -- individually found it a challenge to find an inspiring workenvironment when they moved to India more than 7 years ago.

“Newcomers, both foreign and local, often approach me about ‘where, who and how’ in this hectic, eclectic city,” says Marlies. “As a creative and curious person with an entrepreneurial spirit, I can totally understand where these questions come from as I started as a newcomer in Mumbai myself many years ago.”

In 2013, in an effort to create a more inspiring work environment lead Marlies to renovate an old factory in Lalbaug, Mumbai, convert it into a photo studio / work / event space, and call it “Ministry of New”. The space organically grew from there into one of the first collaborative workspaces in Mumbai.

Natascha produced a Web series as well as performed at an event in the space after a Dutch designer friend introduced the two women. She was brand consult-ing by day and performing comedy by night at the time. Strongly believing in the power of an inspiring work culture, Natascha became a member of the Ministry of New and – eventually – a co-founder. With new funding, Ministry of New in Fort is a flagship compared to the original, but still stays true to the same values of being welcoming, professional, collaborative, creative and relaxed.

“Our ultimate aim is not to build a space but a community-- ,” says Natascha, “one that adds value to our members by offering different work environments and experiences. Desk rentals are only the hardware. The real magic is in the network and exposure you receive working here.”

There is a huge trend in collaborative workspaces sprouting up around the city. What sets us apart? The first factor that comes to mind is our emphasis on building a strong, professional community. We want to create an optimum en-vironment for our members – one in which they can feel continuously inspired, connected and productive.

Our philosophy is reflected in our space. We believe in good quality, functional, European design with a local touch. We are contemporary, but always with some vintage details to create a cosy feel. We are not about screaming slogans, coloured beanbags, basketball, football, or Ping-Pong tables. We believe that design should support, not impose. In short: You will feel a lot of openness, greenery, natural light and freedom to relax and just be yourself.

Overall, we hope to set a new standard not just for India, but also globally for boutique-style workspaces, which are eclectic and curated in their design and events.

The GalleryA 2200 square feet workspace for members to feel inspired, collaborate, focus and enjoy an amazing view of VT station. Big, open-plan and white, it is an eclectic mix of plants, lamps, books and magazines, as well as our Ministry of New designed furniture.

The BarnThis characteristic high ceiling, white, wooden room is a quiet space for mem-bers who require their own, individual place to focus on their work.

The Team RoomsThese are a series of 4 rooms, which can comfortably house teams of 6-8 people. Each fully furnished room has a beau-tiful window with natural light, its own lockable entrance, AC, printer, storage cupboard, dedicated Ethernet line and coffee/tea/water station.

The CourtyardThis outdoor-indoor corridor is filled with lush plants and natural skylight. The open courtyard gives a sense of connection to the rest of the building. High café style seating as well as cane lounge chairs gives room for a private phone calls, informal meetings or some quiet reflection.

MondaysAt Ministry of New, we love our Mondays and how better to celebrate it than enjoying a freshly brewed cup of mint tea or a deliciously prepared meal from one of the most popular restaurants in central Bombay. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, tea or an early dinner, Mondays is ready to take care of you.

The LibraryLinked to our Mondays café, The Library offers sofas, café tables and an old-fashioned kitchen table to have a meal, catch up with a colleague over a barista-made cappuccino or read from our library of international books and magazines. This is also an ideal place to bring a client for a lunch meeting. Step out onto the balcony for some air, and enjoy some stunning views of South Bombay.

There is also parking available just outside the building.
