TheHPRTmaybeusedtodriveapump,generator,compressororotherrotatingmachinery.Speedisgov-ernedbytheinletcontrolvalve, motororgeneratorandtheelectricalgridfrequency.Ifrequired,aone-wayclutchbetweenamotorandtheHPRTpreventstheHPRTfromrobbingpowerfromthetrainunderlowflowstartupconditions. Duetohighgasvolumefractioncarryover,experiencestronglyindicatesthatconservativespeedsareprudenton Pump-Motor-HPRTtrainsinfertilizerplants.

Typical Hydraulic Turbine Installations

Splitrangeliquidlevelcontrollersaretypicallyusedtoregulateturbines.Thecontrolleradjuststhe HPRTinletvalveor furtheropenthebypassvalvewhentheturbineisoverpowered.

Overspeedtripdevicesareoftenfurnishedwithhydraulicturbines.Thisdevice shutstheHPRTinletvalveandacti-vatesoverspeedalarmswhenrequired.
