Message From the President:Summertime is always an exciting time…mostly because there are so many things happening – kids are out of school, family vacations take place, many tourist communities become extremely busy, time flies by, and most of all, the weather invites everyone to get outside and get involved in activities and adventures. All of this activity creates the necessity for financial convenience to ensure that your financial affairs are easily attended to. At UCU we know that your lives are busy and that summertime is perhaps the most hectic of all the seasons. With that in mind I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of a few products and services that are extremely helpful when you are on the run. The SURF Network (surcharge free ATM network) with more than 200 locations across the state allows UCU members to use a SURF ATM without paying a surcharge. Shared Branching is another important convenience. Our Shared Branching network has 154 locations in Maine and over 4,600 nationwide! You can find the nearest SURF or Shared Branching site by visiting our website where you can search by location or even download the iPhone app. Speaking of cell phones, don’t forget about our Mobile Finance Manager application that you can download for your phone or use in your phone’s browser. Many of our members have fallen in love with the SMS (text message) feature of Mobile Finance Manager – it is about as quick and easy as home banking on your cell phone can be! Soon our remote deposit capture feature will be live on Mobile Finance Manager, and our members will be able to deposit checks right through their iPhone or Android device. We think this will be extremely convenient for many of our members.By now, many of you have signed on to our new home banking platform – Personal Finance Manger – for the first time. From the comments we’ve received we know there is a great deal of excitement about the new features and reporting capabilities. While not many of us are big fans of change (and there is no denying that Personal Finance Manger is a big change from our old home banking system), we are confident that the new site will serve UCU members well…now and into the future. If you haven’t had an opportunity to log in and check out the site, please do so and let us know what you think.To conclude with one more noteworthy item this quarter, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the Young & Free Maine program. For those of you who may not be familiar with the program, UCU has been participating in the Young & Free Maine program for two years. This is an ongoing effort (in cooperation with the Maine Credit Union League) to give the 18 to 25 year old generation a voice, a head start and some useful information about the benefits of becoming a member of a credit union. For the past year, our Spokesperson for the program has been Seth Poplaski from Bangor (UMaine Alumni) who has been doing a great job. I’m also pleased to announce that our next Spokesperson is also a UMaine Alumni named Kylie Keene! If you would like to learn more about Young & Free Maine, please visit www.youngfreemaine.com.
