Well we did it! On February 1, 2015, we launched our Inaugural Edition of Young Guns Music Magazine and within the first 24 hours our website got a little over 3500 views and the feedback has all been positive. Our main mission here at Young Guns Music Magazine is to search the local, regional and Texas music scene for up and coming artists who are working hard to make their mark in the music scene today. What make our job here so easy is that you don’t have to go too far to discover great talent in Texas. Although our focus is on the Texas market, we are not excluding up and coming artists from around the world. Our magazines has reached readers in Canada, Mexico, Spain and the UK and we are receiving submissions from artists from those countries who want to be covered and exposed to the U.S. music scene. We think this is great because it gives the up and coming artists we cover international worldwide exposure.

The success of Young Guns Music Magazine rests in the hands of the artists we cover and their fans. Sharing our FB page and links to our website on social media not only helps us grow as a publication but also helps the artists we cover gain the exposure they all need to have their music heard.

In this edition of Young Guns Music Magazine we are featuring several up and coming artists including our first International Artist Canadian Country singer Chelsea Crites. We’ll also including coverage of the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair.

Please share our publication with your friends and ask them to help promote Young Guns Music Magazine on their social media.

NSpire a Child is a non-profit organization in San Antonio, Texas that raises funds to establish a foundation for after school programs, internet resources and summer camps to schools and community organizations at no cost. Its goal is to help reduce, if not, eliminate these atrocities by inspiring the children to do great things through arts training. Programs are designed to help develop a basic creative arts and arts technology curriculum with variants customized to different age groups, skill levels and cultures.

Daily, many children are neglected, left behind, and face immense danger, it goes unseen and unknown to many of us. On school days, parents are at work, between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00pm. These are peak hours for teens and children to fall into the deadly trap of peer pressure, bullying, crime, drugs, gangs, teen pregnancies, child abuse, neglect and the most terrifying of all, child abduction.

Young Guns Music Magazine is committed to supporting community organizations that help foster the learning of music and the arts to our young. We pledge to do all we can to help such organizations with our time, talent and financial support.

Cecy TrevinoCecy is the Executive Director of Chicas Rock a renowned music program that has been rocking the South Texas Coastal City of Corpus Christi, Texas. The program is exclusively for girls ages 8-17 and is dedicated to building young girls self-esteem through musical creation and performance.

What originally started as a yearly summer camp has now become a year round program with after school classes happening during the school year. Students are instructed on playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals. Armed with fresh, enhanced skills, students not only gain self-esteem and confidence but also getting some history on musicians that have paved the way for girls like Joan Jett and the Go-Go’s.

Well things are much harder today than years past to make it in the music industry, but thanks to Cecy Trevino of Corpus Christi, Texas; things just got a whole lot easier. Executive Director

Originally from Monterey Mexico, Cecy moved to Corpus Christi, Texas with her band La Conquista, an all - female, cumbia/pop band, after being signed by Q-Productions located in Corpus Christi, Texas. With the success and popularity of the band, the band's fan base grew and many of their fans were young girls who also had the dream of performing like Cecy and her bandmates. Young girls would often approach Cecy and her bandmates with questions on how they could learn to play instruments and get a band started. It was because of those questions by their young female fans that inspired Cecy to create Chicas Rock. Cecy saw need for a venue to teach music, but not just any venue; a "girls" venue to focus on music education. A place where they wouldn't be intimidated by boys and be taught by an all-female instructor led program whocould serve as role models and empower girls, while they could freely express themselves. So in 2009 Chicas Rock Summer Camp was launched.

Chicas Rock has gained local and national recognition for their efforts to empower young girls and has formed an alliance with Girls Rock which is all over the U.S. and now France and Brazil.

The experience these young girls rockers gain from Chicas Rock not only gives them valuable lessons as musicians but it helps build their self-confidence which will be valuable to them in any future endeavor they may choose.

In September 2014, an article was published in Esquire Magazine written by Nick Simmons; the son of famed rocker Gene Simmons of Kiss. The article was titled; Gene Simmons: Rock is Finally Dead. Within the article the Kiss rocker spoke about how times had changed since he first started out rocking. He said : “I am so sad that the next 15-year-old kid in a garage someplace in Saint Paul, that plugs into his Marshall and wants to turn it up to ten, will not have anywhere near the same opportunity that I did”.

Young Guns Music Magazine plans to keep tabs on this great group and feature some of their star students in the near future. So stay tuned. You never know, we may just discover the next be rock star.

Jyro Alejo

9

In our search of news on Alejo, we came across a post on his Facebook page from a friend: “When you're able to Google yourself, you know you’ve made it.” We believe this is just the beginning for Alejo.

2015 has already proven to be an even bigger year for this talented artist. In January, his band Immortal Guardian rocked the 2015 NAMM Metal Jam in Los Angeles. Alejo said it was an honor shredding the stage with one of his heroes, Michael Angelo Batio, Niel Turbin (Original Anthrax Vocalist) and King Diamond drummer Matt Thompson and Then Farace. “It was an unforgettable Metal overdose I will never forget”. To top off the NAMM Metal Jam, Jackson Guitars included him in their Official Catalog. He and Immortal Guardian have also shared the stage with big acts such as Symphony X, Sonata Arctica, and Metal Church, Protest the Hero, Blackguard, Nevermore, Firewind and Turisas.

In late 2014, Alejo formed an Iron Maiden tribute band named Seventh Son and joined his girlfriend’s band, Jessikill. Juggling three bands keeps him pretty active in the music scene.

In 2011, he joined his current band, Immortal Guardian, which has taken his career to the next level. Since Immortal Guardian’s inception, they have focused on what they know best, performing face melting, mind blowing progressive metal and Jyro was the perfect addition for the group. Performing with Immortal Guardian gave him great opportunities as a musician which included a short national tour in Summer 2011 and a Super Metal Brazil Tour in the Summer of 2013.

Known for his blistering speed and impeccable guitar playing technique, watching Immortal Guardian guitarist Jyro Alejo shred out some amazing melodic metal is a show within itself. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Jyro began playing guitar and metal music at the age of 11 and it was not too long after that he found himself performing gigs with his first band Force of Genocide in 2004 and making a name for himself in the LA local thrash metal scene. Four years later in 2008, he and his LA band relocated to the Lone Star State iand landed in San Antonio. Tx. Force of Genocide had great success but ended up disbanding in 2010.

Jyro AlejoSan Antonio, Tx

2013 proved to be one of Alejo’s biggest years by winning the Sam Ash Music’s Best Shred Contest in October 2013. The following month, Alejo took the stage at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, opening for the legendary Steve Vai and put on a shred clinic for nearly seven minutes. Jackson Guitars took notice of his talents and he became officially endorsed artist in November of 2013.

Chelsea Crites is a talented country singer from Port Colborne Ontario who has already achieved so much success with her music. Her passion for music began at age 7 when her mother entering her in an elementary school talent show. Getting the courage to sing in front of your classmates can be a nerve racking experience for anyone, but she gained the courage and performed Patsy Cline's "Crazy". The response she got from her classmates and teachers proved to be a great experience and ever since she has been amazing fans from the Niagara region and beyond.

In a 2014 interview with Conversations Magazine's Editor-In-Chief Cyrus Webb, Web asked Chelsea how important it was for her to have her mom involved with her music. "It’s absolutely great to have someone like that in your corner," she explained, "someone you can trust to be there for you and share the excitement with you. It makes it more special."

Chelsea has come a long way since her elementary talent show days. Through hard work and support from her parents, she has rose through the ranks at a very young age, performing at singing competitions and talent shows; and by age 13 a professional. Performing at Canadian festivals, fairs, and many different venues across the region, the teenage sensation began to build buzz and the local and regional media was quick to take notice. Her talent has been covered by multiple newspapers from several regional Canadian cities such as Brampton, St. Catharines, Toronto and Guelph. With the buzz building, she soon found herself appearing Country radio stations across Canada. She has appeared on Country radio/Hamilton stations 820 Cham and KX94.7 New Country, radio INDI 101.5, and radio CFRZ 98.3.

In 2009 Chelsea was nominated for Niagara Rising Star and in 2011 she was crowned Niagara's Idol with her prominent country style and astounding vocal presence. She soon began to make a name for herself in Southern Ontario and surrounding communities. Since then, she build a very impressive resume of pre-show concerts for some of the biggest stars in Country music such as Alan Jackson, Ryan Laird , Johnny Reid, Carolynn Dawn John , Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town , Eli Young , Colt Ford and Eric Church. She has also opened for Canada’s own Crystal Shawanda in Chatham Ontario.

Now 21, Crites is signed with Shoreline Records and is considered a star on the rise in Country Music. Chelsea is definitly a Young Gun to watch and we are pretty confident that you will soon be hearing a lot about her and her music.

To keep up with Chelsea and her music visit: www.chelseacrites.com.

In May 2014, she released her Chelsea Crites EP which has quite bit of Nashville influences with songs written by Nashville songwriters and tracks also written by Chelsea Crites herself with the spice of hit Canadian songwriters as well. Chelsea had the pleasure of working with a top notch producer in Nashville along with guitarist for the stars John Willis.

Morgan WilsonPorter, Tx

In our never ending quest to seek out great up and coming talent Young Guns Music Magazine heads out to Porter, Texas. Porter is a small community in Montgomery County in southeastern Texas just 28 miles from Houston, Texas. YGMM is a firm believer that great things can come from small places and to prove our point we would like to introduce you to Morgan Wilson.

When Morgan was 4 years old, a neighbor move in next door who just so happened to teach guitar. Morgan would see kids going to her neighbor’s home for lessons and she wanted to go too. However, unfortunately for Morgan, her neighbor only taught students who were 5 years of age and older. For a 4 year old waiting a few months to turn 5 it can feel like an eternity and they often lose interest, but Morgan still possessed an interest in learning how to play. When she turned 5, she got her first guitar for Christmas and from the moment she picked it up she fell in love with music. She began taking lessons from her neighbor and by 7 she was showcasing her talents and by 10 she began writing her own music.Looking back she didn’t believe her songs writing was that good at the time, but she loved the idea of writing lyrics and putting them to music.

When Morgan turned 14, she wrote a song titled “I Believe in You” for a class assignment. Teachers and friends liked her song so much they encouraged her to have it recorded. While searching for a studio to record her music, her mother came across the Houston Chapter of the Nashville Song Writers Association and submitted her music. They were very impressed with her song writing and she was given the opportunity to perform at one of their events. “This was the first time I had ever played something I had written for the public to hear, much less to be critiqued. This was pretty intimidating but I loved being on the big stage at Dosey Doe in Spring, TX.” Her song was well received and she soon found herself in a recording studio working on her first album “The Way I Felt about Us”. “I was pretty much obsessed with song writing and wanted to learn all I could about the process.”While recording she had the opportunity to attend a workshop in Port Aransas, Tx where she had the opportunity to meet Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Mains. Both Hendrix and Mains gave high praises to Morgan and her song writing. Over the next two years Morgan worked on her performance skills by performing at local open mics and then began performing at area festivals.

Like most young artists at the beginning of their careers she is still evolving. She is getting ready to release a new single “Sick of You” and is working on a new CD that is scheduled to be out in Jun of this year. The single as well as her CD are being produced at Red Tree Studio in Magnolia Texas by Jeffery Armstreet. Her advice to an artist just starting out would be to “write, write, and write. The more you write the better you get. Be true to who you are as an artist and play the style you like. If you change to be what other people want you to be, you will never really love your music.”

In addition to pursuing her music, this Young Gun is getting ready to attend college in the fall and is hoping to begin gigging in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

So you music lovers in Dallas/Fort Worth get ready for some great music coming your way from this Young Gun; Morgan Wilson.

Since 1980, the Tejano Music Awards and various other special events produced by Texas Talent Musicians Association have provided a forum to create greater awareness and appreciation for Tejano music. This music format has been a tradition in the stateof Texas and is now transcending regional and cultural boundaries throughout the United States as well as internationally.

A reflection of its popularity is the yearly increase of crowds that travel to San Antonio each year to attend the Tejano Music Awards. For example, the first Tejano Music event, held in 1980, attracted an enthusiastic crowd of 1,300; and now all combined events draw an audience of over 90,000 fans of Tejano music.

The Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair 2015 is a 4-Day Event taking place on March 12, 13, 14, and 15 in the Historic Market Square in Downtown San Antonio, Tx with over 100 Tejano Bands performing during this 4-Day Event. Coming off their win at the 2015 Bud Light Battle of the Bands in San Antonio, Texas and hailing from San Antonio meet The Black Market Club. The Black Market Club is an indie-rock quintet specializing in catchy lyrics, moving melodies, and driving riffs. The band is made up of Benjamin Griffith on vocals/keys, Zach Taylor-guitar, Andrew Bauer-guitar, Chano Islas-bass, and Austin Busbee-drums. The band has been described as "a taste of hardcore, a pinch of progressive rock, and a dash of upbeat indie-rock”, and has been compared to the likes of Circa Survive, Manchester Orchestra, and Local Natives.

On April 5th of 2013, the band released their debut EP "Faults & Fractures", a culmination of experiences and feelings expressed through seven memorable tracks. In the first year, Faults & Fractures has gained a high level of recognition from multiple platforms, including the title of "second best cd" and "second best new song: Pieces" by the San Antonio Current.

At the beginning of 2015, The Black Market Club announced it's sophomore EP, titled "Bad Habits." The highly-anticipated album is a far more refined sound and style in comparison to their first CD, but still keeps to the pop-rock roots people love. The CD is set for release in the summer of 2015.

Since it's formation, The Black Market Club has had the opportunity to share the stage with Hawthorne Heights, Glassjaw, The Kin, Finish Ticket, The Soil & The Sun, Kellen & Me, The Heroine, The Last Place You Look, Adema, and others.

This band is one to watch. We are sure you'll be hearing alot about them in the near future.

YARTIST OF THE MONTH

16

He's a Texas born and raised, singer songwriter and the lead singer of the country rock band, Broken DuckFeet out of New Braunfels,Tx. He is also one of the hardest working artists in South Texas. From Josh Turner to Bad Company, from George Straight to Bon Jovi, Michael can perform it all. Adding in his own original music, you can be guaranteed to have a great time where ever he and his band performs.

He is an artists that stays in close touch to his 40K+ fans on his social media. Fans can always get a good morning greeting from him on FB page and he's not afraid to talk about what bothers him about the music industry.Michael has been playing music ever since he was in 5th grade. Surprisingly, it was not a guitar that launched his music career, it was a trombone that he learned to play in his school band that started it all. It was not until he entered high school when he picked up his first guitar. Playing guitar was something that seemed to come natural to him and he didn't want to put it down.

Although these days he performs Country, his music still has that rock feel to it. Many artists seem to never forget their roots so perhaps it's because his first experience playing in a band , which was when he was in 9th grade, he played for and all "rock" band called Moments Notice. Nonetheless, Michael doesn't refer to his music as just country, he calls it, "Texas Edge Country" a term and Genre that Michael himself coined years ago. "It’s a cross of rock, country and soul all in one" says, Michael.Michael does not only possess a great sound and voice, he's also a gifted song writer. He says he has written hundreds of songs, possibly thousands: "I've never really counted and the folks out there seem to enjoy them". We wanted to know what inspires him in his song writing and who his influences were. Like a true country gentleman he responded: "My two biggest inspirations are God and my family. I guess like any musician, I want to leave something when I leave this earth". As far artists his influences in music Michael stated:" from Barry Manilow to Kiss, I have been inspired by many".

Michael Anthony RodriguezNew Braunfels, Tx

When we searched Michael's ReverbNation Bio, we read something we found unique. "Broken DuckFeet is a Mixture of band members from all over Texas" and the bio only listed two musicians as band members, Michael and Rudy Medina, the band's drummer. So we had to ask if Broken Duck Feet is made up of just two artists. Michael replied that currently the band is made up of just him and his drummer but utilize other artists from across the state for special projects. He added that at times, he does perform as a solo artist but never considered himself as a one man show.

What Young Guns Music Magazine admires about Michael and why we felt he was deserving to be our Artist of The Month is his reputation as a hard working professional musician. As many of our readers know, the music industry is not only a tough place to make a living, but it's also a tough place to raise a family. Michael's passion for music and work ethic to succeed serves as an example to every Young Gun out there trying to make it in this business.
