How you can be reached and when you will return

A list of emergency numbers (fire, ambulance, police, poison control and trusted neighbors) next to the phone along with your address for emergency responders

First aid supplies and chart (get one free by calling the American Academy of Pediatrics at 800-433-9016)

Health concerns, such as allergies and instructions for dispensing medications

Layout of the house, including entrances, exits, areas that are off-limits and a fire escape plan

Times for meals, naps and bed

House rules, including use of phone, television and internet. Make it clear that smoking, alcohol and visitors are not allowed. Also, make sure to close blinds, lock doors and not open doors for strangers or let callers know they are not home.

Tips for how to comfort your child and how to respond to undesirable behavior

Make sure your sitter has a working cell phone if you don’t have a land line
