An accredited qualification, the Postgraduate Diploma in Management
Practice takes a systems thinking and action learning approach that
enables you to demonstrate what you are learning as you are learning
it, adding instant value to your organisation and industry.
DO IT YOUR WAY
Our Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice offers you the
choice of one of five specialisation streams. The curriculum has
been set up in a modular format. A four-course programme, all five
specialisation streams share the same three core courses, with your
specialisation stream comprising the fourth course.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS
All five specialisation streams share the three core courses
in the curriculum. Upon registration, you’ll choose one of the
following specialisation streams:
STREAM ONE: INNOVATIVE LEADERSHIP
Course: Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Geared towards helping managers move up the organisational
ranks successfully by focussing on transferring information and
demonstrating entre/intrapreneurial competencies based on
innovation and creativity.
STREAM TWO: WINE BUSINESS
Course: Wine Business Management
Focused on further developing wine business management
acumen, market insights and the leadership skill-set necessary
to negotiate the complex decisions, innovative solutions and
multidisciplinary strategic interventions needed of wine business
leaders in South Africa.
STREAM THREE: BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Course: Business Acumen II
Aims to further develop and strengthen business acumen and the
application of tools and techniques to unlock inner leadership and
managerial potential.
STREAM FOUR: LEADERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE
Course: Leadership in Health Care
Focused on further developing health industry insight and leadership
skills necessary to negotiate complex decisions required by leaders in
the Health Care Industry.
STREAM FIVE: RETAIL MANAGEMENT
Course: Retail Management
Geared towards developing business acumen and retail industry
insights into successful marketing and logistic chains required by
managers in the Retail Industry.

ACTION LEARNING
ASSESSMENTS
Put into practice everything you’ve learned and make it your own. A key benefit of the Postgraduate Diploma in Management
Practice is its practical emphasis. This course was specially designed to challenge students to apply their newfound
knowledge and skills to situations in companies and organisations. The attention paid to each student is one of the key
factors that differentiate the PGDip from similar qualifications.
Courses 1–4 (excl. Wine Business Management and Business Acumen II):
1. Individual preparatory assignment.
2. Group assignment on the last day: integrated case study.
3. Individual assignment to be handed in the day before the start of the next course.
Wine Business Management:
1. Individual preparatory assignment.
2. Sensorial evaluation.
3. Group assignment on the last day: integrated case study.
4. Individual assignment to be handed in the day before the start of the next course.
Business Acumen II:
1. A preparatory assignment.
2. In-class test on managerial statistics.
3. Exam in financial and management accounting.
4. Individual case assignment.
Action Learning:
1. Action-Learning Project Report.
ENTRANCEREQUIREMENTS
• Due to the intensity of the programme, applicants need to
demonstrate a high level of personal motivation, stamina
and initiative.
• Applicants must show a willingness to work in a group
situation and an ability to tolerate and manage pressure
and conflict and are assessed with this in mind.
• Applicants should be at least 25 years old and have a minimum
of 3 years’ relevant work experience.
• To apply, a graduate-level qualification or NQF level 7
equivalent is required. Applicants without a degree may be
considered through the Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL) route.
• Applicants are required to submit the UCT online application
for admission, three short motivations, full academic records,
Curriculum Vitae, Application information document.
• Two Individuals who know the applicant in a professional
context but who are not close family members must complete
confidential evaluator’s forms.
• An interview may be required; applicants will be informed.
• Applicants should preferably be employed for the duration of
the programme, either by an organisation or self-employment.
• Applicants who are not employed will be responsible for
finding an organisation in which to do research and implement
action learning assignments (ethical clearance from said
organisation will be required).
You will be informed about the technical requirements through the
admissions department once accepted onto the programme.
