You have heard me advocate on behalf of immigrants and refugees (Matthew 25:35, 25:38), to be welcoming and generous to newcomers. A letter from our Pastor…

June is quickly slipping away, and for many, the pace of life changes for a while. High School students are graduating this weekend. Elementary students celebrated the last day of school. We just celebrated the first day of summer this past Thursday and people have plans for the summer.

The summer months provide good opportunities for spiritual growth. As you travel this summer, let mountains, lakes, beaches, sunsets and stars draw you into an appreciation of God’s creation. Enjoy the awe-

inspiring work of our God and give thanks and praise! Enjoy leisurely summer walks and bike rides with those you know and love. Let this be a time for renewed, deepened relationships. Add some scripture or spiritual writers to your summer reading list. Visit our church or Cathedral during a hot summer day—find a refuge for prayer. Work in our church garden. Watch the bulletin for evening gatherings at Holy Spirit and enjoy some time with friends. Spend time with a service project.

Please pray for our diocese’s newest priest who was ordained by Bishop Scharfenberger at our Cathedral on Saturday, June 16th. Welcome and congratulations to Fr. Zach Chichester.

Peace be with you, Fr. Joe

P.S. It is hard to watch the tragedy unfolding at our southern border with the children of migrants being separated from their parents. You have heard me advocate on behalf of immigrants and refugees (Matthew 25:35, 25:38), to be welcoming and generous to newcomers. I realize people of goodwill can differ on the details of immigration policy, yet the sight of children in detention centers leaves me wondering if we’ve forgotten that children are in need of love and protection. (Let the little children come to me for the kingdom of God belongs to just such as these. ~ Matthew 19:14). Let us pray for the protection of our children. I am glad to hear so many of our bishops speaking forcefully on behalf of our children and their families.

You are invited to celebrate sacraments with us: The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Saturday at 3:00PM or by appointment.

Contact the Parish Center to arrange preparation for Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation, First Reconciliation, or Sacrament of the Sick. If you are interested in celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage, please contact the parish at least six months in advance.
