I have almost had a lifetime in dogs, introduced to the show world in 1957 , with the

purchase of a Dachshund by my family that had a “pedigree as long as your arm”. He

wasn’t a good dog, he bit us kids, he was a dud but it got my family hooked on

showing. I was interested right from the start and have been so ever since.

My first Afghan Hound , born in 1972, was BIS Ch Calahorra The Hawk, an unusual

chocolate. My second, and foundation bitch, was a daughter of legendary Ch

Calahorra Turban (and CH Furbari Kusan Kabul). Both of them were prolific winners

in the 70’s and then I bred my first litter in 1977. Since then, I have bred many

champions, BIS winners and SBIS winners and at this time, BIS SBIS CH Aviva

Venezia is still the record holder for top BIS winning owner bred and handled bitch in

Australia. Her grandson, SBIS BIS Ch Aviva T All Black JC was # 1 All Breeds in

2004. In 2013, a great grandson, BIS SBIS CH Aviva Akira was AHCNSW # 1

Afghan Hound of the Year and a multiple SBIS winner.

As a breeder I have strived to produce dogs that I like, that can perform in the field as

well as the show ring and that can live a normal healthy life as loved family pets away

from the show ring.

I enjoy the educational aspect of showing dogs, being the Hound Group coordinator

for the Judges Training Scheme for 3 years, and an accredited assessor for judges

exams for four groups. Currently I am the presenter for the members Education

Course, for the Hound Group overview, which is the first step that “would be” judges

take on the road to becoming fully licensed. I am licensed to judge Hound, Herding,

Working and Non Sporting groups. I have been privileged to judge in several

countries, judging at premier events, all breeds shows, specialties and group

specialties.

I live in a small village called Berkeley, with my Husband (kennel boy) and 4 dogs, I

have been involved with showing and breeding dogs ever since I can remember.

I was lucky that my family through my Grandmother, bred and showed Pekes, and

also that my grandfather bred Shire horses on a small hobby scale, so I was well aware

of the world of show dogs and stock animals

My introduction to Afghan Hounds was through my grandmother and the Pekes, our

village post mistress was Dorothy Fryer, who owned a Peke, but also owned 3 Afghan

Hounds ... mother to Godfrey Fryer ( Severndene). I soon became a part of the Fryer

household, after school, on weekends and every school holiday I would be there... and

when Dorothy moved to Devon, I went to Estella and Godfrey’s, who just lived the

other end of the lane .. The first show I handled an Afghan Hound was held in the

middle of Stonehouse..I still have all the prize cards...from these early years 70 - 76.

I have bred very few litters, only when I wanted a pup myself, all my dogs live in the

house as family, so my numbers have been kept low, and all live here until the end of

their days. I have showed Afghans, German s/h Pointers, and of course Pekes as a

very young child, also dabbled in showing Chinese Cresteds and a Chihuahua ,

I was never in a rush to judge, Estella got me my first appointment without my

knowledge, without her doing that, I dare say I wouldn’t have set foot in the ring as a

Judge - I am glad she did.

Its always an honour whether it’s an Open show or a Championship show to Judge

my first love, the Afghan Hound,

RULES AND REGULATIONS. 1. The show will open at 9.00 a.m.(No entry before this time) 2. Dogs will be received at any time but it is the exhibitors responsibility to ensure that exhibits are available for judging when

required. 3. Judging will commence at: Bitches: 10.30 a.m. Dogs:10.00 a.m. 4. The show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed. Exhibits may be

removed from the show after their judging has been completed. Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Practitioner or of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforeseen circumstances which must be reported to the Kennel Club.

5. The use of cooking stoves in the proximity of the tenting and benching areas is forbidden except as authorised by the Show Management.

6. Entry Fees: Members £17.00 First Entry Per Dog, subsequent entries per dog £3.00. Non-Members:£20.00 First Entry Per Dog, subsequent entries per dog £5.00.

7. No prize money will be paid at this show. Specials available as listed to fully paid up Members at the time of entry. 8. The Committee reserves the right to refuse entries. All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club

Authority to compete number before entry to the show can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor.

9. Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the show are not eligible for exhibition. 10. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the show is strictly forbidden. 11. BEST PUPPY IN SHOW. Where a Best Puppy In Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy In Show is a puppy which

has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy entered at the same show. A Puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the show. Selection of Best Puppy In Show must follow the selection of Best In Show. Best Puppy In Show must be selected from Puppies which have been judged and are unbeaten by any other puppy. WITHDRAWAL FROM COMPETITION. Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy In Show may be withdrawn from all other competitions, other than breed classes and Best Puppy in Breed, prior to the competition for Best Puppy In Show in order to remain unbeaten. A Dog beaten in competition for Best Puppy In Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The Dog declared Best Puppy In Show, however must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso: For the purpose of this regulation dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace, Team or a special award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

12. BEST IN SHOW. The dog declared Best In Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same show. Best In Show must be selected from exhibits declared Best Of Sex provided they are unbeaten winning dogs. Reserve Best In Show must be selected from the Best Opposite Sex and the Reserve Best Of Sex to the exhibit declared Best In Show. WITHDRAWAL FROM COMPETITION. Dogs which become eligible for Best In Show may be withdrawn from all other competition prior to the competition for Best In Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A Dog beaten in competition for Best In Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The Dog declared Best In Show, must not compete in any other competition. Proviso: For the purpose of this regulation dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace, Team or a special award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.

13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best In Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging unless they have unavoidably been delayed by the previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with special permission of the Show Management.

14.No modifications will be made to this schedule except by special permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by an advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 15. All Exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (annex B).Regulations for the preparation of dogs for

exhibition. 16.The Committee will not be responsible for the loss or damage to the dogs or Property whether arising from accident or any cause whatsoever, nor from any acts of omission by themselves, their officers, servants or others and it is on this understanding only that entries are accepted. 17. DOGS IN CARS ON HOT DAYS.Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help you through the do's and don't's travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.

When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.

The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink.

Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.

When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.

Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.

Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.

Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog's welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. 18.Rules and Regulations or Definitions and Instructions of the nature of Rules and Regulations printed for convenience in other parts of this schedule shall be deemed to be regulations of the Committee and shall have the same effect as if they formed part of these regulations.

19. Not For Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 20.Should any question arise not provided for in these regulations and show regulations the decision of the Committee shall be final subject only to appeal to the Kennel Club. 21.Should a judge be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the committee reserve the right to appoint a substitute. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entrance fees can be returned. 22.No animal other than an exhibit shall be brought into the precincts of a Dog Show during its continuance, except a registered guide dog for the blind or a hearing dog for the deaf, or dogs required for educational or instructional purposes or by permission of the General Committee. 23. All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competi tor. REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (Annex B) 1

st JANUARY 1988

1.These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition for any Kennel Club Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee whose decision shall be final and may include disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42. 2. a)No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog's coat for any purpose at any time during the show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part of the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the show. b) Any other substance (other then water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition. 3. No act or operation which alters the natural formation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except a)Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee, b)The removal of dewclaws of any breed, c) The shortening of tails of customarily docked breeds but only up to an acceptable age limit which shall be prescribed from time to time.

d) Operations to prevent breeding provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered dogs are shown. Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive. 4. The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog at any show. Any examination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directive from the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis. 5. An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog, competing in the same breed or class. An objection may however, be lodged by an official of the show or by anyone deputed by the Kennel Club. It wi ll be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the complaint or the official (as appropriate) to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for an objection made on its behalf. 6. Any objection by an individual related to the infringement of these regulation must be made in writing to the show secretary at

his/her office before the close of the show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at the time of lodging the complaint.

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES

In the following definitions a Challenge Certificate includes any show award that counts towards the title of Champion under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club. Wins at Championship shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted as wins at Open Shows. In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in members classes or competing for members specials, each partner at the time of entry must be a member of this society. In estimating the number of awards won when entering any class all wins up to and including the seventh day before the closing of entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. 20.08.17. Wins in variety classes do not count for entry in breed classes but when entering for variety classes wins in both breed and variety classes must be counted. A First prize does not include a special prize of whatever value. If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, the exhibitor may choose one of the following options. 1) Withdrawal, the dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of regulations 9K(j) and (20) 2) Transfer, a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its colour, sex, weight or height the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted to the Open class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height. b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy Class, Puppy Class or Junior Class, which is over age but under twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or twenty four calendar months of age respectively, the show secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the

Puppy Class, Junior Class or Yearling Class respectively for the correct colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being no Puppy Class, Junior Class or Yearling Class to the Open Class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height. c) For any reasons other than the above the show secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Open Class for the correct colour, sex, weight or height. d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered the dog may not be transferred to any other classes.

With these provisos the following are definitions of certain classes:-

MINOR PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the show. PUPPY For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the show. JUNIOR For dogs of six and not exceeding eighteen calendar months of age on the first day of the show. YEARLING For dogs of twelve and not exceeding twenty four calendar months of age on the first day of the show. NOVICE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or three or more First prizes at Open or Championship shows (minor puppy, special minor puppy, puppy, and special puppy classes excepted, whether restricted or not) GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or four or more First prizes at Championship Shows in Graduate, Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit ,Limit and Open Classes whether restricted or not. POST GRADUATE For dogs which have not won a Challenge Certificate or five or more First prizes at Championship Shows in Post Graduate, Minor Limit, Mid Limit ,Limit and Open Classes whether restricted or not. MID LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champion under the Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won five or more First prizes in all at Championship Shows in Mid Limit, Limit or Open Classes confined to the breed,whether restricted or not, at shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. LIMIT For dogs which have not become show Champion under the Kennel Club Regulations or under the rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club or won seven or more First prizes in all at Championship Shows in Limit or Open Classes confined to the breed,whether restricted or not, at shows where Challenge Certificates were offered for the breed. OPEN For all dogs of the breeds for which the class is provided and eligible for entry at this show. VETERAN For dogs of not less than seven years of age on the first day of the show BEST VETERAN IN SHOW : Will be challenged for by the winners of Veteran Classes only.

Location of venue.

J6 M18 take the exit and head into Thorne Town Centre.

At main traffic lights (not pedestrian crossing) turn left (there is a Sainsbury on your right just after turning left).

Turn right onto St Nicholas Road (after Sainsbury car park entrance).

At the end of the road turn left onto Church Balk.

Straight on past Trinity Academy on left to small crossroads, go straight on, onto Mooredges Road.
