What the Green Party stands for

What the Greenshave done in York

Why electing Greens matters

Initiated York’s first free-to-all insulation programme leading to over 1,000 warmer homes and worked to achieve new energy efficient street lighting

Proposed alternative budgets to limit cuts to public services. Challenged plans to privatise libraries and care for the elderly

Opposed student tuition fees

Run ‘Shop Local’ campaigns and fought to support city centre independent traders

Proposed and taken a very active role in York’s successful ‘Snow Wardens’ initiative

Rescued Walmgate Stray from over-grazing, protecting its biodiversity

First raised the proposal for a Quality Contract to upgrade bus services

Tackled parking problems and improved safety at local shops with residents and companies in Fishergate

Kick started the successful campaign for area wide 20mph speed limits in York

Campaigned for better recycling and re-use facilities as an alternative to financially irresponsible incinerator plans

We need a new type of politics to face the challenges of the 21st century. Climate change, over-consumption and inequality will not go away just because governments pretend they don’t exist.

Green politics is not a luxury in a time of hardship - it offers a way out of the mess we are in. The Green Party has a vision of a fairer, healthier and happier society and a full set of policies for getting there (see back page).

Greens always vote on the issues, not according to a party ‘line’; they are always prepared to work with other parties and are open about decision-making.

Electing Greens keeps the issues we stand for high on the political agenda. Voting Green and making an impact at the ballot box shows the other parties how important Green issues are to you.

A fair economy in which costs and benefits are shared more equally

Tackling fuel poverty by creating jobs, investing in insulation, renewables and green technologies of the future

High quality public transport, less traffic, healthier air quality and publicly owned railways

Free quality education and healthcare, opposing privatisation of public services

Healthy food and humane farming

Protecting York’s green spaces, creating quality development including affordable housing (fit for a small historic city)

A vibrant city centre and local shops and services, near to where people live

Supporting local communities and involving residents in decisions
