Corporate Yoga with Brianna Welke Yoga

Dear friends,

Yoga has made an incredible difference in my life and I’m excited to share that with you. When I first began practicing yoga I was working at an environmental consulting firm, it was a stressful job and I was wound up and always tense. My low back, neck and wrists always ached from the long days I spent sitting in front of the computer. Yoga helped me unwind, quiet my mind, and relieved the aches and pains I got from sitting at a desk all day. On my lunch break I would go across the street and take yoga class and would come back after feeling refreshed and renewed. My coworkers were curious about this change and soon I began teaching in my office building. In addition to the benefits of calming, releasing, and working out, we found that it was a great way to get to know one another and have fun.

I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 10 years and have had the privilege of teaching for the last 5 years. My specialty is hatha yoga, vinyasa and restorative yoga.

! Benefits of Yoga:

1 Stress reduction. A number of studies have shown that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being.

2 Improved fitness. Practicing yoga can lead to improved balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength. And this means you're less likely to injure yourself in other physical endeavors or in your daily activities.

3 Management of chronic conditions. Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia.

Why Should Employers Get Involved? There are numerous potential benefits to employers. A meta-analysis of corporate health and wellness programs shows for every corporate dollar spent on wellness programs, an average of $3.37 was saved. Studies also show the following positive results when health and wellness programs are made available to employees and their families either on-site or with partnerships.

1 Reduces cost for chronic diseases2 Reduces overall costs of healthcare coverage3 Decreases absenteeism4 Improves stress management5 Reduces employee turnover6 Improves worker satisfaction7 Improves morale8 Ensures greater productivity9 Improves fitness and health

“Having a wellness program like corporate yoga is something that sets

you apart from your competitors. It can reduce work-associated injuries such as low back pain, and reduce work loss due

to stress and illness. The bottom line is helping employees develop a healthy way

to combat stress in the workplace; let them know how much they mean to the company by providing them with the

break they need to be more productive at work and in life.”
