DEAR CADILLAC COMMUNITYSince your YMCA opened in December of 2009, weve continued topush for your causes of Healthy Living, Youth Development, and SocialResponsibility. With over 66% and 76% of Missaukee and Wexford countiesrespectively either overweight or obese, and over 59% of our area students

having at least one high risk factor in their lives, its clear these causes need tobecome movements in our community. Its also clear that it will take the wholecommunity to achieve them.

In 2014 your YMCA continued to reach deep into our community to ght forthese causes and invest in all the generations. With Mercy Hospital westrengthened the Senior Fit program. With Cadillac Area Public Schools,Pine River Schools, and other partners we offered an After-school TutoringProgramthat included a healthy snack and vigorous play daily. With dedicatedvolunteers we started a Flag Football leaguefor youth aged 6 to 8.

Thanks to the generosity of a local business leader, E.S. Fawcett, we started a free membership programfor all 7th graders at CAPS schools in 2013-2014.The program was so successful other community leaders including AdvancedFoot and Ankle, CoBank, Chuck and Marge Dumanois, and Glenn and ReannaKelly felt compelled to continue it into the current school year.

Perhaps your YMCAs biggest growth over the 2014 year was the expansion in Early Childhood. Your YMCA now hosts Dillon Daycare and three preschoolprogramsincluding tuition based, Headstart, and Greatstart which all developedas a response to needs in your community.

One of the most impressive ways we see your Y Cause growing into a movement

is the strong response of so many dedicated volunteers. In 2014 your YMCAhad over 250 volunteers from your community provide over 5,200 hours ofservice. Clearly your YMCA would not have as great an impact without theirdedicated service.

Now I invite YOU to get more deeply involved in your cause.Check outthe incredible, life changing programmingthat occurs within and outside ofthe YMCA walls represented in this report. Dont just nd a healthy living, youthdevelopment or social responsibility program to participate with, join us in theght for making your causes, the movements in the community.

SENIOR FITLou and Judy Vargo have been members of the Senior Fit class since

January of 2011. They like to set goals because they feel that goals makethem work harder. During the Senior Fit Class free time they decided

to set a goal of walking 1500 laps in 2014. On average they walked20 or more laps twice a week during their hour of free time. On theTuesday before Thanksgiving they accomplished their goal of 1500 laps, which is equal to 125 miles in 11 months! After surpassing their goalin 2014 the Vargos have motivated othersat the Y and are alreadydeveloping a goal for 2015, and want to keep going with their walking!

Congratulations to the Vargos for achieving theirinspirational goal we are all very proud of them!

I love being here to improve

my ftness and energy level. Ilove the people because theyare so supportive of oneanother.Their encouragementamong each other is so niceto hear. My favorite pieces ofequipment are the treadmillsand the recumbent bikes.

The Cadillac Currents are starting their fth season as a competitive swimteam. Being part of the Cadillac Currents offers students from K-12 the rareopportunity to compete in a lifelong sport that offers the best aspects of individualand team sports combined. Members learn how to set goals and compete

against their personal best times, while encouraging teammates to excelat their individual goals. Practice begins in October to prepare swimmers forcompetitions that run from November through mid-March. Fun is had throughoutthe season during statewide meets with other YMCA and Michigan Team SwimLeague (MTSL) swimmers, including individual and relay events.

This low impact, highly physical sportprovides an excellent foundation forlife lessons personal discipline, time management, and leadershipare

just a few of the many benets in addition to the healthy body and condencethat participants gain. Many alumni of the program have demonstrated this by

When I am on that platformI cannot wait for that buzzer

to sound so I can dive into thewater and just swim. I lovethat I could turn my love forswimming into a sport whereyou compete. My goal for the2014 season was to make itto both States again - whichwas a huge challenge sinceI moved up an age group. The swim team gives mea goal, something to worktowards. You are part ofa group but you compete

    against yourself.

CALL TO ACTION2014 marked the start of a new

campaign for an Aquatic TimingSystem. The system chosen includesan electronic display system able tocommunicate upcoming events, display training material and serveas a timing systemfor the swim teamand other competitive events, like theannual triathlon held at the Cadillac AreaYMCA. Overall, the system will supportYMCA swim team members, mastersswimmers, swim lesson participantsand other community memberswith their individual goals on the wayto achieving their personal best. Thistool will also open the doors to larger

meets, invitationals, and events that canshowcase our communityto a largernumber of swimmers from across thestate. These additional swimmers willprovide a higher level of competition, which in turn will motivate our swimmersto a higher level of performance.

Recently I was asked how the Preschool andDaycare center at the Cadillac Area YMCA has

impacted my life. The rst thought that cameto mind was, How do I narrow the list down? Mysecond thought was my children.

My family moved here from California in Marchof 2013. My youngest child, Lilly, had just turned3 at the time and she was having the hardest timewith the changes in our life. I decided preschoolwas what she needed and the Cadillac Area YMCAhad an opening, an amazing staffand was veryaffordable. Being a one-income (military)family, I was very relieved to be able to makethe tuition. After a few months, Lilly started getting

back to her usual happy, smart self.Shortly after we started the Y Preschool program,

we were offered a Head Start slot. Not only could Ichange the hours Lilly attended preschool, I was alsotold her tuition would be free. To have that money tohelp with extra cost of my family is AMAZING!

Now with 3 kids in school, I found myself askingwhat now? To me the decision was simple...go backto school and nish my GED. The adult educationclasses here were in the late afternoon so with a fewsimple changes to our schedule and lives,I wasable to attend, complete my education andfnallywalk across the stage as a graduate. Ijust felt with my children getting older, it was justsomething I had to do for myself.

If everyone at the Cadillac Area YMCA EarlyChildhood Department hadnt been as amazing asthey are, none of this would have happened. Evennow with that behind me, the Cadillac Area YMCA isstill impacting my life. For the rst time ever I amable to get one-on-one time daily with each of my3 children. There is nothing more important to methan them and the Cadillac Area YMCA has played ahuge part in my family not only settling, but thrivinghere.

    2014 Parent Survey Quotes

I thought this was the best youthprogramthat my son has participatedin. The kids learned, had fun, and thecompetitive element was just right forthe age group. I think kids and coacheslearned a lot. Chad and Mike did a greatjob with this program and it will only getbetter. I had a ball watching all the teams

play.I thought the league was well

    organizedand ran very smooth. WELLDONE!!

Thanks for this opportunity for my son.We loved itand will be back next year.

We thought the coaches were great withthe kids and very patient. Great job!!

    CAPS TOCAMP PROGRAM

In 2014, approximately 50 childrenattending Cadillac Area PublicSchools (CAPS) were nominatedby principals and staff to attendCamp Torenta. These children wereenrolled at one of the four CAPSElementary schools or Mackinaw TrailMiddle School. The second requirementwas that these students had neverattended Residence Camp before. The third condition was that they had to qualify for free or reduced lunch.Shortly after the Cadillac Area YMCA Residence Camp, Day Camp, andCanoe Camp brochures were sent out in the spring, students that werenominated and ultimately selected, were notied that they were invited

to attend camp free of charge. Program Director Mike Kelso stated,The 2014 nominees and their parents were shocked and excited to ndout they had been chosen for this new program it was like delivering areally good Christmas present that the kids would get to open in July!

These students were gifted the experience of Residence Camp in partdue to generous donationsfrom Rotary Club of Cadillac, the TorentaScholarship Fund, and private donations.
