Personal StatementI am a person always with passion. I care about people more than design itself. I think the best way to judge a design is good or not, should be the comments from users. Although I understand the first person we need to face is the developer, I still want to create any place that normal people, when using it, would feel happy, convenient and comfortable. And so does the environment. The design would last longer as long as both people and nature like it. So sustainable system is the very important and basic principle that I would use in any work to create a happy world where everything, the ground, the sky, the air, animals, people etc., would feel happy and which would last forever. I like hand drawings, making presentations and communicating with people. One advantage that I have and interested in is transferring concepts/ideas into diagrams so that people can understand them easily. I got good comments from professors for making energetic presentation and interesting diagrams clearly expounded ideas.

LA RIVER BANK DESIGN PART 1
This is a warm-up design of LA River Bank. We chose one part of the LA river bank, using two solutions from researches and design a transition area in between the two designs.

LA RIVER BANK DESIGNis mainly design for the river floods for los angeles,Given the extreme nature of the hydrology of the site any re-design of the channel will require a fairamount of “design” and mineralization ( conc re te , e t c . ) as i t wou ld be impossible to simply re-greenthe ent i re channe l . Recent and previous studies have done little to advance an idea of what isp rog rammat i ca l l y, eco log i ca l l y, and aesthetical ly possible within the confines of the morphological considerations and strategies required for high flow infrastructures.

Design a smooth transition is one of the requirements of this project. Model in the last page shows how the transition works in 3D view while these two sections, cut at the very end of the transition part, show the difference of both the forms, componentsand the function between each other.
- Section1Basically has a bioswale, increasing diversity of species on the bank and cleaning the stormwater at the same time; a set of concrete planters help collecting sediments to build a "nature bank" which reduces the flood speed.- Section 2By using gravel with soil instead of sand to build the beach, it helps both increase pervious surface and bring the nature back the channel.
LA RIVER BANK DESIGN PART 2
After the warm-up design, we developed the methods and integrate them into the whole site. Three sections show three different methods function for different situations: 1. Zigzag bank gradually become flat which can help colllect sediment for nature vegetation and slow down the water speed. 2. Cover mat made of bricks conected with pins helps hold vegetation underneath and give bank more buff when the flood hits it. 3. First part gets strongest attack from the flood for which I take the bank back giving a buff space using structures blocking the sediments for building a nature island and reducing the speed.

BOYLE HEIGHT HOLLENBECK PARk DESIGN
This design starts with its surrounding research and design, which is the main street to the entrance of the site - the Hollenbeck Park. I used idea of "Green Umbrella" by making the whole street both mentally healthier (encourage sports activities) and better living environment (green shade all along the street, increasing light supplies, green infrastructures).
For Hollenbeck Park, expanding the idea of bring back healthiness to the site, I designed three different themes with various facilities to surport people's needs of places for activities and provide opportunities to get close to the nature. We have root path and "rolling down the ground" for people to experience the earth; "water walk" and "water channel" for people to see and feel the water in a different way; a sky-path and rocky path in the forest area help people see natrue from a different angles.

CHLOROPLAST - URBAN CONNECTION SKYWAY PARK DESIGN
The site locats in a industrial area with few place for residents living around to have fun or enjoy while the environment is also bad. I for sure want to keep the mantainence station, create a "bridge park", using the idea of "Chloroplast" representing the concept of expanding the interesting, happy space to the whole community. The connection of each cell of the chloroplast has different main function for various needs. One of them also has the function of cleaning the strom water and at the same time provide nature-friendly environment for vegetaion and people.

MEDIA COMMUNICATION
Both hand-drawing and media techniques are a way of expression. The following pages are showing my skill of expressing a sense or a scene.Such as using different materials (taken from clothes) and light rendering showing differnt seasons, time and weather; model rendering showing transition of landform and units; plan view hand-drawing and quick skethes of perspectives.

This model is part of Hollenbeck Park design on 1:20 scale, which mainly shows the landform of the site and some of the entertainment programs. Such as rolling down the grass, shows by the foam ball on the small hill and water bicycle, walking on water ball game etc.
This model is part of the LA River Bank design project. It basically shows the landform of the transition and how it can help collecting sediments and reduce the speed of flood and provide space for vegetation at the same time.

These two are study models showing the progress of related design researches. The left one is a design of collecting water from the slope to irrigate the crops according to different water needs. The right one shows a process of how the concrete planters can help collecting sediments to reduces the flood impact.
