Area Elections for Twin Rivers Trustees Yes On Measure "G" Background: In 2007 Sacramento County residents who were once a part of the Rio Linda, North Sacramento, Del Paso and Grant Unified School Districts came together to unite under the Twin Rivers Unified School District Banner. The expectation was that this unified school district would be better for all students, better for parents, better for all working men and women. However, in the 2007 November election Areas 1, 2 and 4 (Foothill Farms, Old Foothill Farms and Rio Linda respectively) overwhelming supported the Rio Linda Trustee Board ticket thereby deciding the outcome of the election. All but one of the Board Members on their District-wide slate won election to the Twin Rivers School Board. This outcome has proved extremely divisive in the Twin Rivers community. Today through Measure "G" we are asking to change the election process of the Twin Rivers Board of Trlistee Members, by allowing local neighborhoods to elect these officials. Measure G would simply allow other communities, Northgate/Gardenland/Dos Rios and North Sac/Hagginwood/Woodlake to elect someone from their communities without the unfair voting influences from others. Area elections, rather than the current at large (district-wide) system of electing Board Members would make our local elected officials more accountable in some of the following ways. Please note: Twin Rivers Board By-laws (BB9005) require the primary responsibility of a Board Member is to act in the best interest of every student in the district. 1. Area elections would still require Trustees to look out for what is best for the entire District. 2. Area elections would allow the average citizen to run for school board without having to spend tons of money. 3. Communities would have a greater incentive to become more involved with their neighborhood schools. 4. This would provide for more parent involvement. Studies show that more parent involvement means better academic performances by students. More than 800 people from throughout the District signed a petition to place Measure G on the June ballot. It has received District and press coverage over the past three months with both the Twin Rivers Trustees and Sacramento County Office of Education Trustees voting unanimously to place it on the June 5 th election ballot. This petition was done to ..." .bring halaflcetc the Twi.n Ri'·,=-,-".· best .raute that objective would be to convert the district, to strict district election process.

Area Elections for Twin Rivers Trustees Yes On Measure "G"

Background: In 2007 Sacramento County residents who were once a part of the Rio Linda, North Sacramento, Del Paso and Grant Unified School Districts came together to unite under the Twin Rivers Unified School District Banner. The expectation was that this unified school district would be better for all students, better for parents, better for all working men and women.
