As we come to the close of this year, I am proud of our efforts in 2016. We now have more friends and partners, more support and corroboration. We have reached beyond our neighborhood borders and opened our hearts, homes, and community to many who share our same vision and hope. Certainly, we have achieved a great deal.

The year 2017 is to be our year of Growth and Expansion. We are entering this next year with higher hopes, bigger dreams and more expectations. Although our goals remain constant, our potential and opportunities are now much greater thanks to our forthcoming hiring of an executive director. And they are greater because of each and every one of you who have joined us. So, thank you for your continued interest and support!

A Year of Color Paves The Way For a

Year of Growth

President Frank T. Scott, Sr.

Progress is the work of many hands The Whitely Community Council refocused its energies about seven years ago with a mission and strategic plan to empower residents, build partnerships across the city, and demonstrate clear progress within the neighborhood. Reflecting back on our past year calls to mind how the mission--to serve and be a voice for the community--continues to guide our neighborhood association. Muncie has countless organizations with passionate people working to take Muncie into a bright future. The Whitely Community Council has endeavored to model a brand of collaboration that delivers results. Our Year of Color was headlined by

the summer’s Paint the Park volunteer project, where the structures of McCulloch Park were brought to life in vibrant color. People are still talking about the transformation, and how they are drawn to the park in ways they haven’t been in years. This sort of highly visible, collaborative progress continues to draw more popular participation, which reflects the council’s vision from day one!

Working together is working

To realize the Community Food Pantry, the council coordinated partners across the city to solve food insecurity in our neighborhood. Few projects in our history have been so bold and, as we continue to draw in more supporters, nothing will match its impact.

Capital Campaign Underway “Centennial Campaign” raising funds for permanent pantry location, offices, and staff

The property being pursued is at 1208 E Centennial Ave. It is 22,000 sq. ft., contains 3 buildings, and is spread out over 3 acres with lots of paved parking. The grounds would allow for the community food pantry, food stor-age, public meeting space, offices, classrooms, public garden space, and a garage for the MLK Freedom Bus.
