PRESIDENT’SREPORT

ThelatestPMIcommissionedtalentgapanalysisbyAndersonEconomicGroup(AEC)predicts33%growthforprojectmanagersoverthenext10yearsin7industrysectors.ThegoalofthePMISouthFloridachapteroverthelastyearhasbeentoalignitselfwiththestrategicdirectionofPMIglobalandensuringthatwearemeetingtheneedsofourmembers.

Thisyearwebegandoingthingsdifferently.Insteadofconformingtodoingthingsthesamewaytheyhavealwaysbeendone,wechallengedourselvestothinkoutsidethebox.Weexperimentedwithvariouspricingmodels,searchedfornewvenues,attractednewcompanies,individuals,andpartneredwithanadditionaleducationprovider.Asaresult,wehaveminimizedfinanciallossesfromdinner/mixerevents,andinsomecasesevenbrokeeven.Whatideascanwegetfromtheseexperiences?HowwillwedefinethefuturedirectionoftheChapterusingtheinformationgatheredthroughsurveys?Wedon’thavealltheanswersyet,butIamexcitedabouttheenergyandideaswerecentlyexchangedduringouryearlystrategicplanningmeeting.Lookingbackatthispastyear,Irealizewhatanhonorithasbeentoleadthiswonderfulorganization,andtheexperiencehasbeenveryrewarding.Iwanttoexpressmydeepestappreciationforthevolunteers,whosededicationandtimeisthelifelineoftheChapter.Ihavelearnedsomuchfromthemandtheyhavebeenasourceofinspirationforme.Also,thankyoutooursponsorswhosesupportiskeyforustodeliverqualityevents.Inclosing,IamtrulyhonoredandhumbledtohavehadtheprivilegetoserveasPresidentoftheChapter,andwanttothankyou,ourmembers,forgivingmetheopportunitytohelpmakeadifferenceinthelivesofothers.

THINKTANKNowayearlytradition,thisyearseventwasourmostsuccessfuleverattractingarecordnumberofattendees.Theeventisapaneldiscussionontopicsofemerginginterestspromotingamyriadofideas,strategies,andbestpracticesbetweenandforprojectmanagementandbusinessanalysisprofessionals.Thisyear,wesoughttochallengeattendeeswithaconfluenceofseeminglyirreconcilableconversationsallleadingtoTransformation.

PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENTDAY(PDD)

ProfessionalDevelopmentDay2017(PDD):OnthisJune,ourDepartmentledthegreatesteventoftheyear.Thisyear´smaintopicwasCustomerExperienceRevolution.WewereprivilegedtoreceiveMr.JohnFormica,the“ExDisneyguy”,andanother15paneliststopresentCustomerExperienceastheaxisofagreatsetofWorkshops,interactivesessionsandmeetings.Wereceivedthevisitof267attendeesandagreatcollaborationof8companiestomakethisPDDthegreatestmadesofar.Throughoutthis2017,theEducationDepartmenthasmadeseveraleffortstoofferdifferentoptionstomemberssotheycanprepareandfindgreatopportunitiestotheircareers.

OurveryownJean-LucCaous,ChapterPresident,wasselectedtotakepartintheyear-longPMILeadershipInstituteMasterClass(LIMC).Theclassprovidesstudentswithintensivetraininganddevelopmentinleadershiptechniques,strategicandbusinessmanagementpractices,andotherkeyskillsapplicabletovolunteer,careerandinterpersonaldevelopment.Jean-Lucisoneof33studentsfrom18countrieswhowillbegraduatingattheannualLeadershipInstituteMeeting(LIM)inLosAngelesinSeptember2018.

COMMUNITYOUTREACH OurCommunityOutreachprogram

bringsCorporate,non-profitorganizationsandEducationalInstitutionstogether,toassistinbridgingtheprojectmanagementtalentgapthroughtraining&workshops.MonthlyWorkshopsareheldonProjectManagementMethodologythatbringreallifeprojectopportunitiestohighschoolstudents.Thisisnowthe3rdyearfortheprogramthatisfacilitatedbyPriyankaSaxena(Director,CommunityOutreachProgram).ThisyearwearepartneringwithSomersetAcademyofPembrokePines,wherestudentswillplanandhosttwooftheChapter'sNetworkingEvents.

GIVINGBACK-IRMAHURRICANERELIEF

FollowingthedevastatingeffectsinflictedbyHurricaneIrmaonourlocalcommunitiestheEducationandMembershipteamtooktoprovideSCRUMBasicstrainingwhereby100%oftheproceedweredonatedtotheHurricaneReliefFunds.13peopleinterestedinlearningaboutAgileSCRUMBasics,hadthechancetoenhancetheirskills,whilemakingadifferenceinthecommunity.TheclasswasprovidedbysomeofthetoplocalAgiletrainersandcoaches.TheChapterraisedatotalof$3,300andinbandingwiththeSouthFloridaAgileAssociation(SFAA),atotalof$6,600wasdonated.

DEPARTMENTSPOTLIGHT

OPERATIONSTheOperationsteamisresponsibleforfindingslocations,contractnegotiations,attendeeregistration,andPDUcertificatesforourevents.Theyalsoprovidelogisticalsupportforboardmeetings,overseeingchaptergovernance,andmaintainingaliaisonrelationshipwithourRegion14chapters.AkeyaccomplishmentthisyearwasmovingawayfromthemanualcreationandemailingofPDUcertificatestoprovidingon-linePDU’sfordinnersandtoolssessions.

MEMBERSHIPInadditiontofindingwaytoattractnewmembers,akeyresponsibilityforourMembershipteamistherecruitingofnewvolunteers.Theteamsupportsalldepartmentsandeventsbyrecruitingandonboardingnewvolunteers.TheymanagetheyearlyVolunteerRecruitmentDay,andasaresultofthisyear’sgreatturnout,wewereabletofillallopenpositions.WiththesupportofPMIGlobal,theteamleveragedtheGuestpassprogramtoincreaseChaptermembership.Thisyearweenhancedthewaywewelcomenewmembersbysendingoutinformationhighlightingthebenefitsofjoining.Feedbackhasbeenextremelypositive.TheChapter’smembershipgrowththisyearincreaseby15%,surpassingourtargetof10%.

PROGRAMSOurProgramsdepartmenthadaverybusyschedulethisyearorganizingandputtingtogether11eventsandprogramsincluding;5dinnerseminars,4networkingevents,aThinkTankeventwithafocusontransformation,andaCommunityOutreachprogram(COP)withSomersetAcademyinPembrokePines.Wecontinuedoureffortstoprovideeventsinall3counties,andtheteamalsolookedatnewvenuesinanefforttoreducecostswilemaximizingthevalueofengagement.Also,thisyear’sThinkTankwasourmostsuccessfultodatewithanattendancealmostdoubleofpreviousyears.Overall,ourprogramsandeventsattractedover1,000attendees.

DEPARTMENTSPOTLIGHT

EDUCATIONTheEducationteamhasbeendeterminedtobringthebestprofessionalinformationavailableanddeliversthebestqualityservicetoourmembers.WeofferweeklyPMPstudygroupswhereprofessionalsmeetonlineweeklytopracticeforthePMPexamandalsokeeptheirknowledgeuptodate.Inadditioncareermentoringisourlatestserviceofferingavailabletomemberstofindnewopportunitieswithintheirprofessionalareaortogetasecondopinionontheircareerstatus.TheEducationdepartmentholdsaspecialonlineeventtogatherAgilepractitionersandProjectManagerstodiscussandsharesomeofthenewesttendenciesandpracticesintheAgileworld.StartedthispastJune,ourmonthlyAgileWebinarserieshavepresentedahugegrowthopportunitiestomembersandgueststobeupdatedandreceiveusefulinformationtobeputinpracticeintheirorganizations.Lastly,anewtrainingprovider(TransformationExpertsLLCTE)hasbeenincorporatedintotheREPteamofferingprofessionalpreparationinLeadingSAFe4.5andotherprevailingAgilemethodologies.

TECHNOLOGYTheTechnologyteamtooktheleadroletointroducethe“PMISouthFloridaNewsletter”,whichisdistributedquarterly.NormallyassociatedwithMarketing,theteamdemonstratedtheirsuccess,initiative,andagilityinworkingwithcrossfunctionalteamstocompilecontent,articles,andreachingouttospeakers/authorsforpermissiontousetheirarticles.ThedepartmentalsoactivelysupportstheorganizationwithITrelatedissues,andbeganlookingattherequirementsandoptionsfordevelopingaChapterMobileApp.OurTechnologyteamisalsotakingaleadroletofindwaystoimprovethequalityofourwebsite.Wewillbereviewingthecontentforqualityandensureinformationiseasytofind.

DEPARTMENTSPOTLIGHT

MARKETINGThekeyfactorfortheChapterbeingabletoproducethevariouseventswedo,issponsorship.ThisyearwehavepartneredwithFundraisingCoachesinanefforttoextendourreachtopotentialmembersinadditiontopartneringwithcompaniesinvariousindustries,wehavenotpreviouslyreachedoutto.Wearecreatingateamtoworkwithourvendor,andareexcitedtoseetheimpactinthenearfuture.

FINANCETheFinancedepartmentsupportedalldepartmentswiththedevelopmentofthe2017budgetpreparations,inadditiontocoordinatingandfulfillingthefinancialrequirementsoftheChapterandPMIGlobal..TheteamwasalsoveryproactiveinsupportingtheProgramsdepartmentwithongoingfinancialstatisticsrelatingtodinnerandnetworkingevents.Wealsobeganlookingatconservativeincome-enhancementopportunities(i.e.interestbearingtime-deposit)tomaximizethevalueofourReservefundsfor2018.Wearealsoreviewingcostsavingmeasures,suchasareductioninthenumberofdinnerplatespereventbasedonthepercentageofregistrantsnotattending.

DearPMISouthFloridaChapterMembers,VolunteersandtheSouthFloridaCommunity,Wehaveanexcitingandtransformational2018planned.Itstartswiththevision.Tobeaconduitofinnovation,networkingandsupportforthenextevolutionofProjectManagersthroughstrategicfocus,customercentricityandoperationalagility.

OUTLOOKFORTHEYEARAHEAD

Inadditiontoourexistingkeyevents,wewillbeimplementingspecialtechnologynetworkingprograms,millennialseventsandhealthactivitiestoexpandandimproveourvaluetoSouthFloridaandPMI.Internally,ourvolunteerswillbeutilizinganagileframeworkfordeliveringourprogramstoimprovecommunication,coordinationandmemberservices.OurVolunteersandPartnerswereinstrumentalinaddressingtheHurricaneIrmadisasterbyprovidingfundstolocalcharitiesandwelookforwardtocontinuethattrendin2018.WearealsolookingforChaptervolunteersandSouthFloridacommunitycolleaguesandpartnerstodevelopandimplementprogramsandactivitiesthatsupportimprovementandvalueofourprofession,localemployers,non-profitsandfellowcitizens.IlookforwardtoservingtheChapterandCommunity,Evrard"Spence"SpencerPresident-Elect

Aftermorethan13yearsservingtheSouthFloridaPMIChapterasavolunteer,Ihavedecidedtostepasidetofocusmytimeandenergyonotherpursuitsandinterests.DuringmyyearsservingthechapterIhaveworkedindifferentcapacities,includingDirectorofAdministration,VPofMarketing,PresidentElect,President,andPastPresident.Inthesevariousroles,Ihavebeenchallenged,gratified,rewardedinwaysthatcouldonlyhavebeen

possibleasavolunteerforthechapter.Ihavehadthepleasureofworkingalongsidesomeofthebrightest,coolest,andmostgenerousindividualsI’veencounteredinmyprofessionallife.IhavealsobeenaffordednumerousopportunitiestoworkwithinareasthatIwouldordinarilyneverhavehadexposureto.IamproudofmymanyaccomplishmentsasanexecutiveontheBoardofDirectors,andhumbledbythethingsIhavelearnedworkingwiththePMIGlobalorganization,eventsponsors,companyexecutives,andthehundredsofprojectmanagersandvolunteersIhaveencounteredthroughoutmytenure.Mydeparturefromthisaugustbodyisnotafinalgoodbyebutinsteadafarewellandgoodluck.Iwillcontinuetomakemyselfavailabletomyfriendsandformercolleagues,asneeded.Imayoccasionallyattendchaptereventsandcontributeideasandcontentasappropriateandnecessary.Iexpectthatthechapterwillcontinuetogrowandservetheneedsofourprojectmanagementcommunitywithnewandexcitingprogramsandservices.Ourcurrentexecutivesandvolunteersareexperienced,dedicated,andalwayslookingforwaystobetterimprovetheservicesofferedtoourmembers.IwillmakemyselfavailabletohelpsupportandmentorthemasbestIcan.MysincerethanksandgratitudetoeveryonewhohasmademyvolunteerexperienceanexceptionaljourneythatIwillalwayscherish.RoyVincent,PMPCSMPastPresident ProducedbyJean-LucCaous
