AUSTRALIAN CATHOLIC YOUTH FESTIVAL

The Australian Catholic Youth Festival is a national gathering of Catholic young people established by the

Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. It exists to provide young people with opportunities to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples

in the world today and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia.

Young people from year 9 (in 2013) to young adults 25 years of age are invited to the event. Young people

under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (see Registration conditions).

The Festival is aiming to gather over 3000 young people from around Australia. The Festival has taken a scriptural verse as its theme - ‘The Spirit of the Lord is

upon me’ Luke 4:18. This theme echoes the Australian Bishops vision for youth and youth ministry in Australia.

The Festival will be held in Melbourne, 5-7 December. The majority of the Festival at Australian Catholic Uni. (ACU) St Patrick’s Campus (Fitzroy Vic). One block

away from Melbourne’s St Patrick’s Cathedral, across the road from the birthplace of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop & around the corner from the Mary MacKillop

Heritage Centre (a museum for St Mary MacKillop).

HELP! The ‘OPEN THE CHURCH PLAN’ is faltering due to lack of regular Watchers. We need Watchers, particularly between 2.30—4pm. The ‘Plan’ is to have St Ignatius Church open one afternoon per month, and that is the last Friday. The purpose is ‘a quiet time with the Lord.’ The next occasion is Friday 29 November (nb we don’t ‘open’ in December). Anyone available and/or interested for this month or next year please phone Betty Andrews 3870 8867 for further information.

ATTENTION READERS The parish has purchased a limited number of the ‘New’ 2014 BREAK OPEN THE WORD books - AVAILABLE NOW at both churches. Cost: still only $10 – please place money in envelope inside the book & place it on the collection plate.

BREAK OPEN THE WORD has been a signature publication of Liturgy Brisbane since 1986. All readers know its value in supporting their ministry of proclaiming the word of God with clarity and conviction. But the 2014 edition is better than ever with all new content and an all new look! The revised commentary provides fresh and insightful background to the scripture passages and offers helpful assistance on how to read the text. The new Break Open the Word continues to feature readings (JB and NRSV translations) and psalms for each Sunday, a pronunciation guide and training material for readers.

ALTAR SERVING Anyone who has received their Confirmation and First Communion, who would like to become an Altar Server please contact Tony Castel 0438 192 298 (St Ignatius) or Clare Watts 3371 2285 (Holy Spirit) for further information.

AFTER MASS TIDY UP It would be appreciated if everyone could help clear the pews (and floor) by returning Hymn books and unwanted Newsletters to their stands. Thank you.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

We really have to understand the person we want to love. If our love is only a will to possess, it is not love. If we only

think of ourselves, if we know only our own needs and ignore the needs of the other person, we cannot love. We must look deeply in order to see and understand the needs, aspirations, and

suffering of the person we love. This is the ground of real love. You cannot resist loving another person when you really

understand him or her.

Real Love
