Just To Let You Know... Year 5 - Week 13

Friday 4th December 2020

Maths Review

This week we have begun to look at formal

multiplication. We have kicked off by looking

at the expanded method for multiplication and

will ensure the children are secure before

moving on to the compact method.

English

We have moved away from our topic based

writing this week and have completed a

descriptive piece of writing based on a short

animated film. The children completed their

own travel log and were encouraged to be cre-

ative with their imagination and choice of vo-

cabulary.

Homework:

Maths: The children have been given a sheet to complete focusing on times tables. They need to select

times table problems they struggle to remember and complete the snow people with the relevant multi-

plication and division facts.

Art: The children in school have requested that we decorate the doorways to each classroom for Christ-

mas this year. We have decided that the children in year 5 can get involved and we have sent home re-

sources to ‘Elf Yourself’. The children must cut out and decorate the elf template and then attach a photo

of themselves if you are able to print one at home. If not, we can provide one in school.

Keeping warm

As you have probably noticed, the temperature

has really dropped this week and our doors and

windows will remain open. Please encourage

your child to bring in hats, gloves, coats and

wear extra layers under their school uniforms.

Gloves are a particularly good idea, as the chil-

dren wash their hands before going outside for

lunch and break and some are struggling to

keep their hands warm.

Spellings

This week we will look at plurals. Children will be test-

ed on the plural but should also know how to say the

singular version.

- parties - tomatoes - babies - tries

- worries - lunches - loaves

- wives - brushes - cities
