LUNCH

* History: 60 minutes

Our journey continues…...last week we looked at the overcrowded prisons and the overcrowded prison hulks in London. The conditions were filthy, disease ridden and overcrowded. Something had to be done with all of these convicts! But what? The solution was TRANSPORTATION to the Great Southern Land that is now known as Australia. The Convicts were sentenced to 7 or 14 years transportation to Botany Bay in NSW. Perhaps you might want to look up where Botany Bay is on the map of NSW.

Today you are going to read all about Transportation, then you are going to answer questions about transportation. You will also write about how it would feel to be sent away from England to live in Australia, remember, only Aboriginal people lived in Australia at that time! Finally, you will design a convict ‘love token’.

Complete these activities on your ‘ Transportation’ and History Activity’ pages of your booklet.

Please take photos of your written reflection and love token design. Email the photos to your teacher on Friday May 22nd or bring to school on your day at school.

Writing (45 minutes)

*This week your writing lessons are in a sequence. You will need to follow the sequence. If today is your ‘At School’ day, you will do a Sizzling Starts writing lesson with your teacher. You will

need to catch up on the following activity at home tomorrow. Lesson 3 Today you will begin planning your Informative Text. Using the facts you recorded on the ‘ Fact File Animals’ dot points page you worked on yesterday, you will now use the ‘ Informative Text Scaffold’ in your booklet to write your text. Remember your Information Report needs:

- An introduction: If you have learnt how to use a ‘Sizzling Start’ for an information report try to use one in this report! Or you can use a general statement about the animal like in this example: Sharks are a type of fish. There are over 450 species of shark on the planet. Most sharks live for approximately 20-30 years in the wild.

- A description : a series of factual paragraphs describing the animal For example- Appearance, Diet, Habitat, Movement, Life cycle, Other interesting facts

- A conclusion: a final statement about the animal. For example : Sharks are fascinating creatures who inhabit oceans all over the world.

Hint 1 - Remember your learning from last week about how to write a paragraph? - A topic sentence - State facts - Concluding sentence

Hint 2: Your written text flows better when you start your sentences in different ways. For example : alternate between the name of your animal and ‘they’. ‘Tigers are carnivores. They eat…….’ Once you have finished, carefully edit your work. You may wish to use a different colour pencil. Focus on;

- Spelling : use a dictionary to look up the spelling of words. - Punctuation: full stops, capital letters. Have I used capital letters to begin a new sentence or

applied capital letters to proper nouns ? For example Tigers. - Sentence structure. Does it make sense? Am I missing any words?
