subject.
We use a national data base comparing how students with similar SATs achieve at GCSE
Is a target fixed?
• Student targets will be constantly reviewed, compared to how similar students achieve nationally.
• The EXPECTED grade is a minimum expectation.
• Students can be projected by their subject teacher to achieve higher than their EXPECTED grade (or lower).
• Students are challenged to achieve beyond their EXPECTED grade.

GO 4 Schools Our new method or reporting and
assessing
GO 4 Schools. This is changing the way we share data, reports and homework. Using GO 4 Schools will enable you to view your child’s progress online and access the following information at any time:
• Homework – Homework tasks due in the next 7 days. • Detailed Progress – Providing a summary of a range of assessments throughout the year. • Attendance – Shown from the start of the academic year. • Timetable – Your child’s daily and weekly timetable. • Progress Reports – Which are published each year and termly Grade Updates. • Behaviour Record – Which shows both positive and negative behaviours over time.
Your child’s page is automatically updated, providing you with the latest information. When a new grade or report is available, we will contact you to let you know.
Accessing Go 4 Schools • To access the site, please go to
www.go4schools.com and click on the Parents icon at the top of the main page to arrive at the log-in screen.
• Or click on the parents tab from the GO 4 Schools link on our website.
• Students must do the same, but click on the students icon.
What to look for
• If you cannot access GO 4 Schools for any reason, please email: [email protected] • Students are also expected to log in. • A student must log in via the student tab and repeat the steps using their P-number.

• The email address you use to enter the site must be the one we have registered in our database for you. At the moment, we currently have the two priority access email addresses with linked parental responsibility.

paper via individual requests.

GCSE English language and GCSE English Literature
Points to note • Literature and Language are now equally weighted, as of
this year either can be listed on applications.
• There are no tiers of entry – EVERYONE sits the same exam papers.
• At Lord Grey we have differentiated texts for Literature to assist with access and to support higher grades.
• There is no coursework element.
• The Spoken Language component does not count in the final mark BUT does have its own line on the exam certificate.
• A grade 9 will be determined after all exams are marked. The top slice will be allocated this grade.
• The descriptors for level 5 equate generally to old grade C+ / B-.
• Grade 8 descriptors generally refer to previous A* expectations.
Pathways will be tracked through the criteria and a series of trial exams.
What does 9-1 mean in English Language and Literature?
English Literature Component One
Section A – Shakespeare – 20% – Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet Section B – Poetry – 20% - 1789 to the present day – Students must study the entire WJEC Anthology

19th and 21st Century non-fiction study Both unseen texts will be tested through a series of structured questions. Transactional / Persuasive writing - TWO equally weighted tasks, writing for a range of audiences. Tasks to include letters, speeches, reviews etc

What will the exam look like- component 2?
You will have six sections of questions to respond to. The examiner will judge as to whether you understand the text, can recognise the techniques used to show the writer’s point of view and how confidently you compare the first text with the ideas of the second text. You will also be expected to consider the contextual relevance for both texts- how is the time that the text was written important?

About the exams • Grading system 9-1
• Higher Tier 9-4 (A*-D)
• Foundation Tier 5-1 (C-G)
• The exam board is AQA (Specification 8300)
• Students will sit 3 papers
• Each paper is out of 80 marks
• Students will have 90 minutes
• 1 paper is non-calculator, the other 2 are calculator allowed.
• There is no formula page (see next slide)
• The papers are harder, but now provide more of a challenge for the highest achievers.
