Sydney Local Health District Yaralla Festival 2018

Thousands of people joined in the family fun of the 2018 Yaralla Festival, soaking up the spring sunshine on the grounds of the beautiful Yaralla Estate.

The Yaralla Festival is held annually as part of Sydney Local Health District’s vision to promote health and wellbeing and to encourage the use of the Estate as a community resource.

Our youngest guests were enthralled by the sports clinics, face-painting, LEGO workshop and chance to pat a crocodile and hold a python at the reptile display. The much-loved dog show and lively performance of rock ’n’ roll classics from The Cockroaches had the crowd of all ages enthralled.

The 1st Yaralla Sea Scouts served a delicious Devonshire Tea in the stables

while the Canada Bay Historical Society held tours of late 19th century buildings, including the stables, grotto, squash court and dairy.

Nature-lovers were treated to the Estate’s large collection of rare and important trees and shrubs, many more than a century old and of botanical and horticultural significance.

Families enjoyed the free fruit giveaways, information on the importance of healthy eating, oral health and being active and an update on the Concord Hospital Redevelopment.

We have been working with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage to prepare for some restoration work and some enhancements to the grounds of the Yaralla Estate, to make the beautiful open spaces of the grounds more accessible to our community.

Works to restore the guttering along The Drive inside the Estate gates will reinstate the heritage brick kerbside.

Landscaping works along the tree-lined drive and the creation of two small parking areas will allow visitors to

safely park, prevent damage to tree roots and help protect the natural environment for future generations.

A new pathway will provide a safe and accessible passage for pedestrians from the main entrance gates to the Estate’s other pathways around the gardens.

All works have been approved by NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and are supervised by an archaeologist and heritage consultant. Works are due to be completed by the end of 2018.

Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and join us for a night of free festive entertainment led by Murray and Jeff from the original Wiggles and members of the Cockroaches for Carols at Yaralla on Friday 7 December.

The Rotary Club of Breakfast Point will serving a sausage sizzle. Entry and parking are free.
