Welcome to Extra Innings  Dear YSB’ers, I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying some of the longest days of the year! It’s a fun time for the coaches, as we are traveling all over the country looking for future Bulldogs! It was one of the most exciting years for YSB in recent history, as we had our best Ivy season since 2009! We truly benefited from the new batting cages that the YSB Association helped us earn after winning the Drive for Eli’s! It was because of you and your willingness to give back that helped us reach a new level this year. Our Ivy season was full of extra innings, one run games, and some big victories! We finished the season tied for 4th place overall. The residential colleges continue to take shape over by The Whale, and the news about the Field Hockey/Softball building is quickly spreading throughout the department. As soon as we can share sketches we have received, we will! In other news, we are making plans for next season already, traveling to Auburn and Clearwater to kick things off. The complete schedule will be released in the early fall.

Bulldog Friends, We are so proud of this past season, and all of the hard work our players put in. Every year it gets a little tougher, but with that, comes success. We are knocking on the door of the Ivy League Title. In 2017, we plan to knock that door down. As always, we will miss our graduated seniors, but we are anxious to get back out on the field with our returners and our incoming freshmen. The Field Hockey/Softball Building Project continues to move along. Pam Stuper (Caroline Ruth Thompson ’02 Head Coach of Field Hockey) and I have had several meetings with the architects, and the first few sets of drawings have been UNBELIEVABLE. This building is going to change our facilities, especially DeWitt Family Field! We will have locker rooms, storage, public bathrooms…

From the Dugout Needless to say, it is a space we take advantage of every single day. Lastly, please don’t forget to send in your 2015-2016 donation to support Yale Softball. We are about $10,000 short of our $15,000 goal. There is still time! Weisenbach Elected 2017 Captain Camille Weisenbach was elected to be the Captain of the 2017 team after helping the program to the best Ivy season since 2009. "I'm humbled that my teammates chose me to lead us next season," said Weisenbach, a Bothell, Washington, native. "I'm honored to serve the team as captain, and I hope to bring my energetic personality and competitive drive to help fuel the team's mission toward the Ivy League championship.” Goodwin on Weisenbach: "Camille has earned the title of captain. Her determination and work ethic has really shown these past few years. She is a relentless competitor, and I know that will be felt with our team immediately. She also is a good communicator, knows what the team needs and wants more than anything to win an Ivy League championship.”

End of Season Awards Most Improved: Sydney Ginsberg & Lindsay Efflandt Ginsberg started 32 games, mostly in centerfield, after playing in only 16 last year as a freshman. Her 11 runs scored tied for fifth on the team, and she also knocked in five runs. Andy Van Etten Award: Cristina Teems The Andy Van Etten Award is bestowed upon the player who represents the ideals of Yale Softball that go beyond statistics. Teems appeared in eight games and batted .250 after battling a concussion for the first several weeks of the season. Barbara Chou Leadership Award: Brittany Labbadia The Barbara Chou Leadership Award is given annually to that member who, in the opinion of her peers, best exemplifies the spirit, attitude, desire, determination, and leadership qualities of Barbara E. Chou, B.S. 1978, who founded women’s club softball in 1977. Most Valuable Player: Allison Skinner & Brittany Labbadia Labbadia topped the team in overall hits (43) and stolen bases (20), batted .304 in 20 Ivy League games, leading the team with 21 hits and 11 stolen bases. Her 40 career stolen bases tie for the eighth most in school history. Skinner had the most home runs (2), doubles (11) and RBI (21). Skinner’s 11 doubles tied for the ninth most in a season all-time at Yale.. Labbadia Named Recipient of Amanda Walton Award We are also proud to announce that Brittany Labbadia was named the recipient of the Amanda Walton Award at the Senior Student-Athlete Reception. The Walton Award is presented to an outstanding athlete who has excelled on the field of play and who has shown spirit and courage in transcending unforeseen challenges. It is named after Amanda Walton '02. Walton, a field hockey and lacrosse player at Yale, was involved in an automobile accident after her sophomore year. She overcame a coma and numerous injuries through hard work and determination, eventually returning to the Yale sideline as an assistant coach. In 2003 she received the NCAA Inspiration Award. Labbadia's brother Chris tragically passed away after an automobile accident in January. Among the ways that his memory was honored recently was "Chris' Game", a doubleheader between the Yale and Quinnipiac softball teams. Brittany and Chris' mother, Lynn Labbadia, is an assistant coach at Quinnipiac. As part of the game both teams raised money for the Chris Labbadia Memorial Fund, founded to keep Chris' spirit of love, acceptance, loyalty, passion and laughter alive for years to come.

Terra  Jerpbak’s  sister,  Skye,  was  a  senior  catcher  for  Princeton,  which  made  for  a  fun  series.  Terra  was  

named  Rookie  of  the  Week  three  >mes!  

Rising  senior  Lindsay  Efflandt  was  all  smiles  aUer  giving  up  only  two  runs  in  

20+  innings  in  the  Harvard,  which  landed  her  on  the  All-­‐Ivy  -­‐  2nd  team.  

Francesca  Casalino  was  named  Pitcher  of  the  Week  aUer  a  14  inning  CG  victory  over  Brown!
