Next week the children will begin their exercise study. They will explore what do we know about exer-

cise and what do we want to find out? The children will be learning a variety of ways to exercise. The

teachers will have an obstacle course for the children to go through when they are outside for recess.

This will encourage exercise in a fun way.

After the first week of learning the rules and the schedule of their class-

room, the children started to get to know their classmates. New friendships

were started and will grow as the year progress.

Harada

Theme: Arctic Animals

Last week the kids had fun doing all the Rainforest activities, so this week we

will continue with the research of Arctic Animals. We are on Summer time

now, but here at Harada we are going to discover on Summer time some animals from the Antarctica.

Children will learn about the low temperatures and most extreme weather, and some animals that live in

the Arctic. Staff will discuss with children Height and Weight of the Penguins, what kind of animals

hibernate during the cold season and basic information of the Reindeers, Polar Bears, Arctic Fox, Walrus,

Seal, Orca, and Snowy Owl . In addition to that we are going to make a Polar Bear, a Whale, and a

Penguin. Friday children will make a snow experiment. For Art children will draw and paint their own

picture on a poster board.

State Full Time Preschool - This week we will be focusing on letter “C”,

the number 2, the color red and the rectangle shape. The children will be

engaging in activities related to the classroom rules. Our topic this week is

rules and routines in the daily schedule class. Parents are slowly bringing in

their “all about me” flag to hang in our classroom. Parents and children are

working on projects as well as the YMCA homework. We will be having

Theme: Empathy (listening and caring for others)

We will discuss the word empathy. What does empathy mean to every one?

What are put-downs words? We will write out words such as, sad, angry,

and embarrassed. Lay out the cards in front of the children and go over

what each word means. This will be for the K-2 grade. Third grade and up,

we will ask questions such as; Where do people learn put-downs? How do put—downs make people

feel? Why do we say put-downs things to our peers? If we say these things to one another how does it

make you feel and think about how it makes them feel? Ask the class to think of put-up questions as

well. For homework, we will practice spelling words, counting, writing numbers, and writing first and

last names.

water play on Friday.

School Age - The battles are on in School Age. As the children learn about all the different types of di-

nosaurs, the class learns about two specific dinosaurs a day, and they get to pick their favorite, the one

they think that would win the battle. They know things about dinos like their teeth, size, body armor

and speed. With this information they write down in their dino book their pick and why. We call those

“Dino Duels” It has them very excited to see which dinosaurs will battle the next day. Our character

trait for the week is trustworthiness and we will discuss and write about the subject.

Part Time Preschool - We welcome parents and families. We are pleased to have you. Last week was

the childrens’ first day of school. The teachers went over the rules and we focused on introducing each

other. This week we are focusing on emotions and feelings. The children will learn that it’s ok to feel

sad, angry or scared and what to do to feel better.

Teen Center

Zumba classes range from classic Latin salsa to today’s modern pop music. We have large and smaller

classes to fit your need as well as multiple classes throughout the week. It is a wonderful way to unwind

and relax after a long day as well as dancing your way into a better lifestyle.

Here at the YMCA Teen Center we also offer Senior Classes $5.00 Dollars the class. We have Core Workout

with Pilates and yoga on Thursdays from 9:30 – 10:30 am. There is also cardio fitness on Mondays from 11

-12 noon. We would like to invite all seniors in our community to our classes. This class is perfect for any-

one who is just starting off or to those who’ve been doing this for a while.

The Home Gardens Public Library is proud to serve the community with the following free and educational

programs! Our toddler story time, commonly known as “Wiggles and Giggles” is a fun bi-weekly event

(Wednesday & Fridays) for infants and school aged children. Bilingual story time, “Aventura’s de Lecture”

takes place ever Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm and children are introduced to the world of literacy and

culture, with arts and crafts that follow. All community teens (ages 10 and up) are invited to form part of

Anime Club, every Tuesday at 4:00pm!

Homework help Monday- Friday from 2:00-6:00pm

Tutoring Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from 3:30-4:30 pm

bead art, making their own punk rocks, and mosaic mirrors. Next week the

teens will be finishing off the Mosaic mirrors and making T-shirt bags, sharp-

ie art, making slime and much more they will be playing really fun board

games like Monopoly, Uno and a very challenging team building game called

the Spaghetti challenge. To end our fun week we will be having a fun Friday

with a nice movie and fresh popcorn.

We also offer Zumba Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-11

am and 6-7 pm. The classes are $3.00 dollars. From week to week the

Citrus Circle We continue to provide the opportunity for the children to do their homework with

our assistance if needed. Parents should continue checking their child's homework

each night. On Fridays the children do not have homework, therefore we allow

them to do a craft or activity. Last Friday, the older children face painted the

younger children and they all enjoyed it and they very much they want to do it

again! This Friday we will be using a crayon maker so the children can make

crayons if they'd like.

Toddlers -This week the toddler class will be focusing on a nature theme.

Activities we have planned include a nature collage, flower painting, senso-

ry tables with mud and insect toys, and a seed planting activity.

Preschool 1 – This week we will explore the classroom and playground areas and explore what type of

shapes we can find. A wide variety of activities so the children will be able to develop their fine and gross

motor skills. Children will recognize shapes, colors and count the variety of shapes and we will graph the

results.

Preschool 2 - This week we will continue to introduce the classroom rules and routine to the children.

They will continue to explore our different learning centers, children will be making moon sand. For art

children will be making tissue paper collages, marble art, and they will be painting with water colors. For

outdoor play we will be having water play and bubbles.

Preschool 3 – Our new study will be on trees. The children will discover how trees help life, we will look

at what animals and insects use trees to live. The children will sort leaves, twigs and bark. The children

will make a graph of what type of trees are around the school (short, tall, fat, skinny, etc.)

School age – Water conservation is the topic for next week. Children will be talking about on going

drought and what they can do at home to help conserve water. Also we will discuss bus safety and go

over the rules for the bus and how we need to be safe.

about "All About Me" as well. They talked about their favorite food, their family and themselves. Next

week, they will be talking about going back to school. They will be tracing their own body and coloring

themselves. A reminder to parent's, we will be having Parent Orientation at the end of September. All

parents must attend this orientation if they did not attend in August.

Greetings from City Park. We are still getting new friends in our First Five

classroom. The children are making new friends and having lots of fun. Last week,

Ms. Bousha's class talked about "All About Me". They drew pictures of themselves

and they made their houses out of Popsicle sticks. They read a story called "The

Kissing Hand", which is a cute story about a raccoon who was afraid of his first

day of school. Ms. Bousha would like for all of her children to bring in a family

photo so they can put up in the classroom. This week Miss Marisa's class talked
