Y FLYING COLORS ART WORKSHOPS Z San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Robert Burridge, Acrylic Mar. 8-14, 2015 (Actual classes are March 9-13) $1,695 painters—$1,495 non-painters A limited number of day students, who actually live in SMA, will be welcomed. $550 for classes. Please reserve early. San Miguel, as I’m sure you all know, is the best known artist’s colony in Mexico with many Americans and Europeans living and studying there. It’s a fun town, colorful, musical, full of painting and shopping opportunities. San Miguel is rather high in altitude at 6,000 ft. It may take you a day or two to adjust to this, so don’t plan to rush around too much on your first days. This also means that while the days may be quite nice and warm, (70 degrees or better), the nights will be sweater or jacket temperature; so come prepared. We will be housed in a lovely hotel with heated pool and tropical shrubbery, close to the art institute and a few blocks from the cathedral and town square. Breakfasts will be in the hotel and dinners at various restaurants in the area. We’re on our own for lunches or we may switch a dinner for a lunch, if there is an event to attend. The entire town, built by sliver barons four centuries ago, has been declared an historic colonial landmark by the Mexican government. The colorful town plaza is as fascinating as it was centuries ago; it’s a great people watching place. We don’t have a day by day itinerary, because we want to fit in market days and any event that may be happening that week. You can count on painting several hours per day and Bob will provide much guidance & instruction. You will fly into Leon Airport on March 17. People are getting in at various times. There are local shuttles that are inexpensive, running every half hour that will get you to San Miguel. You do NOT need to speak Spanish in order to find these shuttles at the airport. I will provide contact info to make your reservation. Our first official meeting together will be breakfast 8 AM on Monday, in the hotel restaurant. Those who arrive before 7 PM on arrival night can get together for dinner. Meet in the lobby at 7:15 if you choose. Depart last day, again by Shuttle to Leon Airport. If your flight leaves very early, you’ll need to go in the night before and stay at an airport hotel. We can recommend one, if you need one.

ROBERT BURRIDGE This is a painters’ workshop and studio experience for those ready to move past the ordinary. This workshop emphasizes and supports loose, expressive, even experimental abstract painting techniques while on location in the richly visual environs of Mexico. Starting daily in the huge glassed-in studio overlooking the town, Burridge demos from starting a painting to finishing techniques using loose, splashes of acrylic paint and pencils, a brush or two, paper towels and fingers … his tools for creating new works of art, not typically created in plein air workshops. Burridge can help you paint your way with your voice with the help of his Goof Proof Color Wheel. Get ready to paint the way you’ve always wanted.

World-wide teacher Robert Burridge’s popular work hangs in the permanent collections of international embassies, corporate galleries, art colleges as well as television and entertainment personalities. The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art curated fourteen of his abstract paintings for his first solo museum exhibition, which led to his second major solo exhibition of seven foot abstract charcoal drawings. The Elverhoj Museum also invited and exhibited Burridge's personal collection of his seminal paintings from past exhibitions of twenty years.
