Speakers for each of these programs will be presented twice:

Teaching Flexibility and Problem Solving
Director of Ivymount's Model Asperger Program, Monica Adler Werner, will give an overview of the research based concepts developed in her book, Unstuck and On Target (a curriculum for students with Autism and ADHD piloted at the Ivymount School) to support children to develop their flexible problem solving skills. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss strategies to enhance social learning, social skills, flexibility, executive functioning and self-regulation in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD.

Useful Tips and Tricks to Help Your Child through the Journey to Adulthood Amy Alvord, Director of Education at Ivymount and Sharon Nickolaus, Transition Specialist, will share information related to making connections with adult services, understanding your child's role in the transition planning process, promoting independence through the development of self-advocacy skills, and talking to your child about their disability.

Why the Function of Difficult Behavior Matters
Not all behavior plans are created equal. To have maximum impact on problem behavior, we must first consider function - the why. In this session - led by Jennie Kampf, Program Director in Ivymount's Autism Program - participants will learn four common functions of problem behavior, how they are identified, and discuss the importance of behavior intervention plans that address function.

Camp Kodiak is an integrated, non-competitive camp for children and teens with and without ADHD, LD, and high-
functioning ASD. We provide a SOCIAL SKILLS program, ACADEMIC program, and 50+ activities. We have small cabin
groups, 2-to-1 ratio, and a professional staff. Our comfortable lakefront cabins have electricity and full bathrooms with a
shower.

Since its inception in 1937, Camp Greentop has been meeting the needs of children and adults with physical, emotional,
cognitive, and multiple disabilities, regardless of their ability level. Camp Greentop was specifically designed for people
with special needs, and is one of the oldest residential camps of its kind in the country! Camp Greentop currently offers
a variety of programming for roughly 450 campers per year, ranging in age from seven to adulthood (you can never age
out!). With traditional camp programs, League Pioneers (primitive camping), year-round weekend respites, winter camp,
and assisted travel- all with staff support- there's a variety of options sure to suit your needs!

The Music Therapy department at Levine offers assessments for music therapy services, individual sessions, group
sessions, and adapted instrumental lessons for individuals with special needs. Music interventions are individualized to
meet the unique needs of each student, to provide growth opportunities in areas like communication, motor
coordination and cognitive functioning, as well as to foster expression and creativity within each student.

Madison House Autism Foundation helps those with autism have the most successful lives possible after these
individuals reach the age of 21 and age out of school. Current offerings include 1. Therapeutic Riding at Madison Fields,
an equine-assisted therapy at our ADA accessible riding arena that promotes physical, occupational and emotional
growth in adults and children and 2. Our VisAblity Art Lab project is a partnership between VisArts and the Madison
House Autism Foundation for young adult artists with autism. The aim of this program is to provide artists with a studio
at VisArts, a community arts organization, where they can explore and develop their artistic talents, participate in
workforce development and life skills training, and forge a deeper and more meaningful relationship with the

and needs children the opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league. We have been offering
baseball for over five years. Opening season begins at 1p.m. on April 2, 2017 at the Miracle League field located at

MOCO Movement Center takes pediatric therapy out of the clinic and into the real world. With a synthetic ice rink,
climbing wall, agility courses and professional musical studio, our modern facility has something for everyone. MOCO is
a center where children can play side-by-side with their peers not even realizing they’re receiving cutting edge and
effective therapy kids just think they are having fun. Therapists and children work together so the child can learn
foundational skills in the center and take them out in the field where the child can practice skills to participate with their

The Friends of MANSEF serve in an advisory capacity to the MANSEF Board of Directors to address matters of family
involvement and communication and act as a core group of advocates to help educate government leaders, policy
makers and members of the public about the educational needs of children with disabilities. If your child has special
needs and you have concerns regarding the appropriateness of the instruction your child is receiving, you have the right
to discuss the possibility of her/his placement in a nonpublic special education school.

The Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities is comprised of 85 nonpublic state-approved special
education schools offering specialized instruction and services to students with disabilities. These schools, located across
the state, provide high quality services customized to meet each student’s needs. Students are referred by Local School

The Handwriting Tree, LLC provides handwriting instruction materials specially designed for the ASD population. Teacher
materials are available for whole classroom instruction, SMART Board charts along with individual kits for occupational
therapists, tutors, speech and language pathologists, and parents.

Project SEARCH is a one-year transition-to-work training program designed for youth with disabilities in their last year of
school. A national program founded in Cincinnati, the goal is to provide student interns with practical job experience.
Ivymount, in partnership with adult service provider SEEC, runs Project SEARCH sites at NIH Clinical Center, Smithsonian
Institute and Montgomery County government.

For more than 55 years, Ivymount has created nationally recognized programs and partnerships for people with autism
and special needs as well as their families. The goal in all our programs is to help children, students, and young adults
achieve their highest level of development and independence. In addition to creating our own education and outreach
programs, Ivymount forms partnerships with other organizations and researchers, often functioning as a training site, to
ensure that our innovative and intensive approach is widely disseminated and influences the larger field of special
education and support services.

LearningRx is a one-on-one cognitive skills training program that helps children and adults diagnosed with ADHD, autism
spectrum disorder, dyslexia or any other learning struggles. The training is based on research in neuroplasticity that
indicates that a brain can be changed and rewired at any stage and age through intense mental exercises that
strengthen the core cognitive skills needed for learning. One-on-one training targets and improves skills such as
memory, attention, visual processing, auditory processing, logic and reasoning, processing speed and reading,
comprehension and math. Clients who have completed the training experience enhanced cognitive benefits and an
increase in IQ by 15 points.

Since 1987, the Vocational Independence Program has been a bridge between high school and what comes next for
young adults with learning differences and autism spectrum diagnoses. With a focus on social skills, executive
functioning skills and independent living skills, VIP students prepare themselves for independent adulthood as well as
college academics and/or competitive employment. Students get the experience of going away to school, living in a
dormitory and managing their time and responsibilities while enjoying a supportive atmosphere and building the skills
they need to be successful.
