14. Summary of content

This module examines various interpretations of ‘globalisation’ and their implications for and connections to the internationalisation of higher education. The nature and process of internationalisation of HE in their various forms are also examined, together with their influences and impacts on practice. Drawing on Nottingham’s unique experience and expertise in this area, particular attention is given to Transnational Higher Education, (TNHE) and international campuses.

The module is structured around 6 weeks of guided activities on these themes:

1. Globalisation and higher education – an introduction2. Internationalisation of HE – Nature and process

3. Implication of Internationalisation of HE for practice4. Transnational Higher Education5. The Development of International Campuses6. Strategic partnerships and Research Collaborations

This module involves:- Self-directed and peer supported learning, working through an online

module structured into 6 weeks of e-tivities- Completion of a number of tasks associated with individual weeks.- Completion of the final module assessment

Students are given the opportunity to work in groups and are supported by academic staff or a postgraduate tutor.

This module aims to develop the professional competences of participants through developing their underpinning knowledge in key issues around globalisation and internationalisation of HE, and ultimately to transform their practice.

21. Learning outcomes

1. Mapped and understood the changes in social life that links to the changing demands on higher education

2. Evaluated the main technical, political and academic debates about the purposes of higher education and its connection to the changing context of globalisation
