This document describes how to redeem a Feature Key Coupon and install a Feature Key on your Xerox 6204 or

6030/6050 Wide Format Solution.Feature Key Coupons must be redeemed using the Xerox Wide Format Coupon Exchange website.http://www.xes.com/keys/httpHome/keys.htmlor

Helpful HintsWhen downloading a Feature Key it may be helpful to open two browsers, one for the Print Services on Web websitefrom your printer and one for the Xerox Wide Format Coupon Exchange website. With the two browsers open youmay move between the two sites as required until the Feature Key download is complete.When installing multiple Feature Keys, upload all keys to the controller (printer) before rebooting the system. Thisallows you to download all the keys using the same KIK number. If you reboot, a new KIK number will be created andyou will need to obtain the new KIK number, and Feature Keys that have already been created will become invalid. Ifthis happens, use the procedure in the section entitled Get a Single Replacement Keyto download the additionalkeys.

Install a Feature KeyThe instructions in this section describe how to install a Feature Key option on a Xerox 6204 or a Xerox

6030/6050 Wide Format Printer or Copier/Printer. These instructions assume that network access to theprinter and internet access are available to the installer.

1. Locate the 16 character coupon ID on the certificate or the CD included in this kit. The coupon ID representsyour Proof of Purchase of the Feature for your system and MUST NOTbe misplaced.

Xerox 6204 Wide Format PostScript/PDF Key

Coupon ID: XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX

This certificate represents the proof of purchase for Xerox 6204 Wide

Format PostScript/PDF support.

Place this sticker inside the front door panel of the printer.

2. Log on to the Print Services on Web webpage and locate the Key Install Key (KIK) and Ethernet Address

(Hardware Address).a. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your printer.

b. Select the Administrator Page button.Enter the Administrator user name and password when prompted.

c. Two additional tabs will be displayed when the Administrator Page is accessed. Select the Properties

tab.

d. Under the Properties menu, select Software Optione. Locate the Key Install Key (KIK) and Ethernet Address (Hardware Address).

4. Select a language.

5. Select Redeem a Coupon for a Feature Key (AccXES v8.0 or later or XEScan v1.1 or later) and click

Continue.

6. Enter the following information:

Plotter Model

Advanced Network HW AddressNote: The Advanced Network HW Address is listed as the Ethernet Address on the Software Option

page. Colons (:) will need to be inserted between each pair of characters.

Controller Serial NumberNote: The controller serial number is the same as the printer serial number, and is listed as the SER #

on the Software Option page.Click Continue

8. Enter the Advanced Network Address (Ethernet Address) a second time and click Confirm

9. Enter the requested name and addressing information and click Continue.

10. After submitting the information, verify that all information on the summary page is correct. Then click on theDownload Feature Key (file) button.

A File Download dialog box will appear, click Save.A Save As window will open. Choose the location (Save In:) to save the file, and change the file name if you

desire. Click Save to save the file to your hard drive location.Close the Download Complete window.

Print the summary page.

Please read the note on the web page regarding using the Redeem Another Coupon button.

Note:You may rename the file, but do not change the extension (.plt).

11. Repeat steps 1-10 to redeem additional feature keys.

12. Upload the feature keys to the printer using BT Plot Assistant or LPR (command line).

a. Using BT Plot Assistant:Open BT Plot AssistantSelect the appropriate IP address in the Printer Name drop-down list. If the desired IP address is not

available in the list, Click the Option button, and then select the Printer name tab. Click the Newbutton and enter the IP address of the printer.

Under Data File Selection, select the File button. Locate the feature key file saved in step 10 andclick Open.

Click PrintNote:A File Format may need to be specified next in BT Plot Assistant. If so, please double-clickUnknown under Formatand select HPGL.

b. Using the LPR command:Open a Command Prompt window.

Change the current directory to the location of the feature key saved in step 10.Type the following command:

Lpr S IP addressP plt00 filenameNote: IP address is the IP address or DNS name of the printer and filenameis the name of the

feature key file saved in step 10.

13. After waiting 60 seconds, reboot the system to enable the feature key.

14. Verify that the feature keys are installed.

Log on to the Print Services on Web webpage and verify that the feature is installed.a. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your printer.b. Select the Administrator Page button.

Enter the Administrator user name and password when prompted.User name: root

Password: root (default)Note:See Step 1 for additional information.

c. Select the Properties tab.d. Under the Properties menu, select Software Option

Installed feature keys will be displayed below the Key Install Key with Enabled next to the key name.


15. Place the coupon certificate, CD, and printed summary page in the pocket inside the front door of the machine.

Get a Single Replacement KeyIf you lose your feature key and need a replacement or have rebooted the printer before the feature key wasuploaded, perform the following steps:

Note:The steps below assume that your Advanced Network HW Address (Ethernet address) has not changed.

7. A File Download dialog box will appear. Click Save.

Re-enabling Features When the Advanced Network HW Address(Ethernet Address) Has Changed

If your Advanced Network HW Address (Ethernet Address) has changed, you must perform the followingsteps:

1. In the United States only, call Customer First at 1 877-XES-DNCS. If you are outside the United States, pleasecontact your support representative for instructions.

2. Refer to the Feature Key Installation Instructions section of this document.

Uninstall a Feature KeyTo remove Feature Key(s) or move a key to another system, you must perform the following steps:

1. Using your internet browser, accesshttp://www.xes.com/keys/httpHome/keys.html

Click the appropriate language.

2. Select Uninstall a Feature Key (step 1 get download file) and click Continue


3. Enter the following information and click Continue.

Coupon ID (obtained from certificate or disk label in this kit).

Advanced Network Address (Ethernet Address) See Feature Key Installation Instructions, step 2.

4. Click the Download Feature Key (file) button.

5. A File Download dialog box will appear, click Save. A Save As window will open. Choose the location (SaveIn:) to save the file to your hard drive location. Close the Download Complete window.

6. Upload the uninstall key(s) to the printer using BT Plot Assistant or LPR (command line).a. Using BT Plot Assistant:

Open BT Plot AssistantSelect the appropriate IP address in the Printer Name drop-down list. If the desired IP address is not

b. Using the LPR command:

Open a Command Prompt window.Change the current directory to the location of the feature key saved in step 5.Type the following command:

Lpr S IP addressP plt00 filename

Note: IP address is the IP address or DNS name of the printer and filenameis the name of the featurekey file saved in step 10.

7. Wait for the system to automatically print out the FEATURE RECEIPT page.

8. IMPORTANT:Locate and write down the Key Uninstall Verification (KUV) on the Feature Receipt page that is

automatically printed for the feature that was uninstalled.

9. Click the Proceed to re-enable your coupon button.

10. Enter the Key Uninstall Verification (KUV) number (step 8) from the Plotter Configuration Test Print and click theContinue button.Note:The Key Install Verificationnumber may be labeled as Key Uninstall Vec, depending on machine

firmware.Note:Dashes must be included when entering the Key Install Verificationnumber.

11. After waiting 60 seconds, reboot the entire system to disable the feature key.

12. The coupon is now re-enabled for use on another system. (Refer to the section titled Moving a Feature Key toanother systemfor additional information.

Moving a Feature Key to another systemTo move a Feature from one system to another, perform the following steps:

1. On the system that is to have a Feature removed, perform the Uninstall a Feature Keyprocedure.

2. For each feature that is to be installed on the new system, follow the Install a Feature Keyprocedure using thecoupon ID(s) that were removed in step 1.
