Full-Color Touch Screen

The Phaser 3635MFP device has a 7-inch, full-color touch screen that defines walk-up ease-of-use. Whether printing, copying, scanning, faxing or emailing, the bright, colorful display guides users from start to finish with large, clear, easily recognizable icons and a consistent, organized menu structure.

USB Memory Drive Port

The Phaser 3635MFP allows users to print from or scan files to USB memory drives. With a fully featured graphical interface, users can name files, create folders, and navigate through folders to find a unique file to print or to store a scan. Although the Lexmark device has a USB port, our testing found that it was unable to recognize the new generation of USB drives that contain operating systems (USB Smart Drives).

Job queues

Having a job queue on the device in a multi-user environment is essen-tial for a product to be considered truly multifunctional.

Without a job queue, users have no job-status visibility and are limited in terms of promoting and cancelling their jobs.

Print Around

The Print Around feature is an exciting addition to job queues and increases productivity in a multi-user office by allowing jobs that are queued up to continue to print — even if one of the jobs gets hung up due to a media mismatch.

* Note: With the Phaser 3635MFP, jobs can be promoted, held or deleted at will.

Lexmark job queue – only shows up to 3 jobs per function.

Although the Lexmark device has a job queue, only 3 jobs can be viewed at a time and its function is limited to deleting jobs. And, without Print Around capabilities, when a job requires media that isn’t currently loaded, the device just comes to a halt. Users cannot copy, print, receive printed faxes or even access the main menu! The only option is to either load the correct media or cancel the job, and since the job queue doesn’t specify which size of media to load, cancelling is really the only option.

Note – all functions come to a stop after a job is sent asking for media that isn’t currently loaded!

Although the Lexmark device has a color touch-screen interface, its menu structure is not as intuitive, which makes performing routine tasks more difficult.

Copy Advantages

Front panel ease-of-use

Over 90% of copy jobs consist of the basics like collation, duplexing, size or number of sets. To increase user productivity, the Xerox front panel contains all of these commonly used features on the main copy screen, making it intuitive and easy to use.

IDCardCopy ID Card Copy is a unique productivity feature that dramatically simplifies and streamlines tasks, such as copying insurance cards, drivers licenses, or even checks, onto one side of a sheet of paper without having to run the paper through a second time.

Although the Lexmark device has a color touch-screen interface, its menu structure is not as intuitive, which makes copying more difficult.

By contrast, Lexmark drivers contain non-industry standard placement of features, forcing users to go into multiple windows to accomplish simple and routine printing tasks. For example, stapling is located on the Paper tab and watermarks and secure printing are on the Other Options tab.

Users can create and access scanning templates with the Phaser 3635MFP. Once created, these templates are easily accessed via the Network Scanning tab. Users can pick templates that are setup with pre-defined workflows (i.e., file type, color or black-and-white, resolution, etc.) or redefine on the fly as needed.

By contrast, the Lexmark scanning process is extremely cumbersome and inefficient. First, a scanning profile must be created at the PC and pushed out to the X646 MFP.

No adjustments can be made in terms of selecting different file types, resolutions, color setting, etc., without first going back to the PC and starting the whole process over again!

Need to scan another job or two? Plan on several trips back and forth between your PC and the Lexmark X646 MFP.
