Project: IUSD High School No. 5
Subject: Total Project Success
Dear Karl,
I write this letter to emphasize the affect that the “Total Project Success” philosophy has
made upon our firm as well as the firms of many of our constituents in the industry. I`m
personally grateful that C.W. Driver has allowed this philosophy to be adopted within
your firm. This philosophy combined with hard work, passion and commitment by all
stakeholders proved to be the winning formula that propelled the Irvine High School #5
to much success.
As I take a moment to reflect, I recall receiving a phone call from Mac Byers about the
Irvine project. Mac requested that he be able to come to our office to discuss the projects
overall complexities, timelines and concepts. During this meeting Mac shared with me
the philosophy of being a “True Professional” and the aspects of pursuing “Total Project
Success”. Having known and worked on many projects with Mac several years prior, it
was easy for me to understand and buy into these aspects. These are the very aspects and
characteristics which he leads people to become successful in life, as well as work.
The meeting also entailed a comprehensive review of the plans, specifications, details,
and most importantly what would be expected of our firm relevant to the schedule. I
believe this meeting was extremely viable to our firm buying into the project’s success
and becoming a valued team member in its success.
I was able to take this same philosophy and attitude and explain it in simple terms to our
field supervision, workmen, and subcontractors in order to attain the same buy in
philosophy. Too often the opposite is true; we somehow do not allow the field crews,
workmen and other stakeholders in the project to experience the same level of
communication. This concept or philosophy is simple and should become the standard in
the industry. We only need to communicate the simple terms to every stakeholder in a
project and commit to follow through to the project’s success.

I would contend that there are also numerous other trade contractors, workmen, and
district stakeholders that have observed the success, attitude, passion, and commitment to
C.W Driver and the Irvine district. Our firm’s personnel have been elevated to the true
meaning of what a “True Professional” is to become in our industry.
I would like to personally thank C.W Driver for allowing the entire staff at the Irvine
High site the ability to invest in our firm and the firms of all other trades for a “Total
Project Success”. From our entire staff we believe there is no comparison in the industry
to the standard that has been set by C.W. Driver on this project. The level of hard work
and commitment to everyone’s success was paramount.
We look forward to utilizing these philosophies and standards for years to come within
our firm and hope to be able to succeed together on future endeavors.
Respectfully,
Kurt Rothweiler, President

C.W. Driver Karl Kreutziger, President 468 N. Rosemead Blvd Pasadena, CA 9107-‐3010 RE: IUSD -‐ Irvine High School No. 05 Project Success Dear Mr. Kreutziger, I would like to take a few moments and express myself as a prime contractor working under the direction of C.W. Driver on the Irvine High School No. 05 Project. From the very beginning of the project, Sr. Project Manager Mac Byers instilled a philosophy of “Total Project Success” and the attitude of working for everyone’s success. It’s not often that a construction manager expresses and sets forth a goal of every party working together to be successful and more importantly seeing it through until the end. Mac has consistently represented his vision and it has permeated throughout the job. This project from the sheer size and truncated timetable has had some very difficult parameters surrounding it. I believe that Mac’s vision and direction is largely responsible for keeping this project on point. The buy in of the majority of the contractors in his vision is the reason the project as a whole was able to rally around such unforeseen delays as we experienced. Mac’s vision and philosophy could not have influenced the project culture as it did without first filtering though his team. I would like to specifically call out a few of the people we worked closely with: Jonathan Keene Jonathan is one of the most professional Project Managers I have ever worked with. He is constantly fair, however his utmost concern is for the client and he makes things happen. Jonathan is very efficient when it comes to processing change orders. He quickly and carefully maneuvers through complex problems and is stern but fair in change order negotiations. It is clear that he is well respected by the owner, his team, and everyone on site. I look forward to working with him on future projects. Kellar Harrell Kellar handled many items ranging from RFI’s, COR’s, and the BIM process. He was always proactive in communicating the status of ongoing issues. When delays occurred, he was pivotal in helping get things resolved and moving in the right direction.

Jocelyn Aquino Jocelyn is very detail oriented and stays on top of her responsibilities. She is very good at finding the answers she needs and closing out issues quickly. Ashcon Hekmat Ashcon always has an upbeat and positive attitude. He will always go the extra mile to ensure that issues are handled correctly and in a timely fashion. His knowledge of current computer software really played a role in the project organization and coordination. Kira Westmorland Kira has made the billing process incredibly easy. She has no problem telling you where you are right or wrong and does it with respect (and humor). I appreciate her fun personality and that I can always depend on her to have done her job quickly and correctly. Richard Thurman Richard was key in the success of this project as well. His leadership and driving force in the field kept the trades moving on a day-‐by-‐day, task-‐by-‐task basis. If Mac and Jonathan were the brains behind this job, then Richard was the hand that made their vision a reality. AJ Slater AJ is a very personable guy. There are not many superintendents that are liked by the field and very effective and what they do. He breaks the mold of the typical superintendent. He has a great work ethic and is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. It was not a coincidence that Building E started to move at a quicker pace when he took it over. Adam Underwood Adam has done a great job with a difficult situation. The coordination of the football field’s scoreboard installation, coupled with the hardscape going down with an already tight area has proven to be a difficult task. Adam handled this situation quickly and efficiently pushing the job forward. The direction of the CW Driver team beginning with Mac has been the reason this project has been a success when there has been every reason to fail. All of us at RDM look forward to the opportunity, to not only work with CW Driver again, but more specifically with the members of the High School No. 05 team. Regards, Rob McDonnell Vice President
