Buenas Tardes (good afternoon), It has been another busy fortnight at WPPS (with more coming up)! Upcoming whole school activities This week is the Australian Book Council Book Week. I know that our teachers and students have been enjoying the Book Week activities and also attending the Scholastic Book Fair in the library (before and after school). The classroom doors have been decorated in this years theme “Reading is our Superpower.” I am looking forward to the highly anticipated Book Week parade at 2.20pm on Friday. I hope that everyone that is available can come along and get involved with our students and teachers. Also don’t forget that on Thursday the 29th of August we are having the whole school Reading Extravaganza from 4:00pm – 5.30pm. This is an opportunity for families to come to the school and join us in classrooms. We will be reading our favourite books and have planned some fun activities for everyone to enjoy. There will even be a hot milo/chocolate drink for everyone to enjoy while we read our favourite books together. We encourage everyone to come dressed in their pyjamas, onesie or robe. Students MUST be accompanied by an adult. “Reading is the Key to Aspire, Learn & Achieve” Keep an eye out in the newsletter for information regarding Literacy and Numeracy week. This year this event will be between 2nd – 6th September. I also look forward to seeing parents during the Wyndham Learning Festival Event running from the 1st September – 8th September across Wyndham. Our Special “Party in the Precinct” will be happening again this year at 1.30pm on the 4th September at the Wyndham Park Community Centre. As always there will be prize hampers on offer for those families that attend and go in the draw. 56 LC Intensive Swimming Program Our Intensive-swimming program begins on Monday 16th September and goes for one week (4 days in total). This program greatly supports our swimming carnival in Term 1, builds confidence in and around the water as well as ensuring our students learn the curriculum around water safety. Further details of this program will be sent out shortly. Parent Opinion Survey The Parent Opinion Survey has been shared with the randomly selected parents in August. It is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use these results to inform school planning and improvement strategies.
Robotics Team Our grade 56 robotics team recently competed against 17 local schools in the Wyndham Schools R.E.A.L Robotics competition at Encore Events Centre. As always our amazing students represented our school wonderfully and demonstrated our school values of Safety, Respect and Responsibility. This year they won the Robotic Game competition with a score of 142 points, this is an amazing score and we congratulate them on this achievement. They are now preparing for the next regional competition in November. Thank you to Ms Krupashankar and Mr Kunoo for coaching this team and good luck in November. Kind regards, Laban Toose Principal
