November 11th - Veterans Day WCOED Offices Closed
The Northwest Ohio regional JobsOhio partner, the Regional
Growth Partnership, will hold its upcoming quarterly meeting
in the Village of Carey on October 26th. Normally held at
Owens Community College in Findlay, the regional JobsOhio
network meetings attract economic development leaders,
utility representatives, public officials, and other interested
parties from the region.
The October meeting will be held in the Training Room at
Vaughn Industries. It will offer a chance to highlight some of
the current successes in Wyandot County as the agenda
features a presentation by WCOED Executive Director Greg
Moon and JobsOhio county project manager Chase Eikenbary.
Much of the reason behind the meeting location in Carey is
centered around the speculative industrial development taking
place in the village. The Regional Growth Partnership would
like to make other economic development organizations in its
service area aware of the process and benefits behind a specula-
tive building program.
The meeting will conclude with a walkthrough of the facility
now leased by Hanon Systems, which was a speculative ’shell’
building completed in 2014. Those in attendance will learn of
its specifications, and the interior buildout that the facility has
since undergone.

First County-wide Small Business & Entrepreneur Fair Offered
The Wyandot County Office of Economic Development in close partnership with the Upper
Sandusky Area Chamber of Commerce, Carey Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Small Business
Administration, and the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board facilitated the first offering of
the Small Business & Entrepreneur Development fair in Wyandot County.
The event, which was held on October 4th, placed local small business owners, and those aspiring to
be, face-to-face with local service providers that could help them in their endeavors. Outside of the
exhibitors in attendance, the event featured a slate of speakers offering ongoing informational
sessions. Topics included the valuation of a business, understanding margins, angel funding,
financial institution vetting processes, and tips and success stories from area small business owners.
On top of the exhibitor information and educational sessions, attendees were able to network and
meet others in the local business community. The major sponsors of the event, including the
WCOED, hope to increase its popularity in subsequent offerings each year as it provides a benefit
for both area entrepreneurs and service providers.

National, Regional, & State Indicators Show Steady Growth
The economies of the United States and Ohio have shown decent growth, and while the Midwest
economy has also shown signs of improvement, the regional economy has remained relatively flat.
This is according to a report released by The Montrose Group, LLC, a business consulting firm
focused on economic development and public finance planning and incentives.
The report shows that for the U.S. economy, real GDP increased in 37 states and the District of
Columbia in the first quarter of 2016. There was a 2% increase in real median household income to
$56,516, while the poverty rate dropped 1.2% to 13.5%.
For the Midwest economy, real median household income increased 5.1% compared to 6.4% in the
West, 4.9% in the Northeast, and 2.9% in
the South. The poverty rate also decreased
in the South, West and Midwest with the
Midwest having the lowest rate of 11.7%.
The Ohio economy remains strong, and is
7th largest among the 50 states. Its GDP grew
by 1.4% in 2015, which outpaced Indiana,
Illinois, Wisconsin and West Virginia, but still
behind that of Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The Ohio unemployment rate of 4.7% is below
that of the national average.
