“The souls of the just are in the hands of God,

and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;

and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us utter destruction.

But they are in peace” (Wisdom 3:1-9)

All are invited to the annual Memorial Mass for those from our parish who have died in this past year and whose funerals were celebrated here in our parish. This is a good and holy time to come together to remember and to give thanks. Even if you don’t know anyone on this list, we all know someone who had died since November 1, 2016…this Mass is a fitting time to pray for them and for eternal rest for their souls.

The Diocesan Office of Restorative Justice / Detention Ministry,

Needs “forever” postage stamps for “Operation Christmas Spirit”

Each year, we collect 7,000 donated postage stamps and Christmas Cards to be distributed throughout our local jails and juvenile detention facilities. It gives the incarcerated populations, which we serve, an opportunity to give back to their families and loved ones by sending them a simple Christmas greeting that they could not otherwise have without your generous contribution. We accept Christmas Cards and postage stamp donations anytime throughout the year. However, we are in desperate need of “forever” postage stamps for the supply of cards we currently have, which must be delivered to the correctional facilities by November.

Donations can be dropped off or mailed to our parish office to the

attention of Joan Jimenez.

All Souls’ Novena envelopes are available in the church and in the parish office. Pick one up and offer a mass for your dearly departed. The novena be-gins on All Souls’ Day and will end Nov. 10.

L o o k i n g to t h e F u t u r e w i t h S o l a r Our projected solar plan (currently under review) includes putting up 2 solar shade structures (225 panels) in the far parking lot that will cover 30 parking spaces and provide shade for 30 cars. There are a number of reasons for doing it this way and not putting solar panels on the tile roofs of our 3 buildings. One major reason is in-stalling the necessary 225 solar panels would require that we would have 6 different locations on our tile roofs for the panels because not one spot could take them all. Another is that, with our main roofs being tile, solar panels would ruin the look of our buildings, detract from the peace and beauty of our inner courtyard, and be an eye sore to the neighbors as well. In addition, with panels on the roofs, the extensive re-quired wiring would have to be run all over the campus until it finally reaches the main SDG&E electrical box which is located in the lower parking structure. By locat-ing the solar shade structures on the upper parking lot, the wiring is very simple as it would run directly into the electrical box, and the solar arrays will produce the most energy because of their perfect positioning to capture the sun’s power all day. More later as the planning continues.

A recent lesson on hunger around the world motivated Catechist Nicole Anthony’s Fifth grade Faith Formation class to action! Many of the students brought food the following week for the St. Timothy Food Pantry that serves local families. Good job, fifth graders, for practicing a Corporal Work of Mercy and making a difference to those in need. “Shine like lights in the world as you hold on to the word of life.” Phil 2:15

St. Timothy’s Childcare Team

Our parish’s desire is to accommodate parish families with experiences offering opportunities for faith formation. Often times, these events are focused on adult topics. Our parish is providing a team of trained childcare staff, through the generosity of our parishioners. The childcare team is fingerprinted and Safe Environment cleared. While growing in faith, families enjoy a safe and caring place for their children. St. Timothy thanks you for entrusting them with the care of your children. Childcare is offered for toddlers from 1-3 years of age at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Liturgies and various parish events. For any inquiries please contact Marya at 495-4126.

November 1 is a special day called the Feast of All Saints.

It is the day the Church celebrates with all the people who have died and are

now with God in heaven. We remember that all these holy people are happy with God and they are good role models for us. We are reminded that all of us are

called to be saints! This is a Holy Day of Obligation which is observed by attending Mass with all

your friends and family.

Thursday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. we will have a Memorial Mass in remembrance of those whom we have lost from St. Timothy’s in the past year. This is also a time when we remember all of our faithful departed. We invite you to bring a picture of your departed loved one to place on a table before the altar. These pictures will then be displayed in the chapel before the Blessed Sacra-ment during the month of November for prayer and remembrance. Please be sure that your name and phone number are on the back of the picture.

Isis. Al Qaeda. The Taliban. Do these familiar words reflect the true face of Islam, the faith of over 1.6 billion people, 23 percent of the popu-

lation of the world? Last month a fellow parishioner and I visited the Mission Viejo Mosque, where we were warmly welcomed by several directors, given a tour of the facilities and invited to partici-pate in their mid-day silent prayer service. We also listened to a homily given in English and Arabic by a visiting Imam about “sins of the tongue” – lying, malicious gossip and hateful speech. The same homily could have been given (well, without the Arabic and probably with a lighter touch) by our own Pastor. I truly believe that the Holy Spirit was present in that place of prayer. I also think the terrorist acts of Middle East extremists no more defines the Muslim community in America than the Spanish In-quisition defines the faith of American Catholics. In Mission Viejo we spoke and listened to our hosts and they spoke and listened to us. Our beliefs are divergent, but we have much in common. One of the things we shared was mutual respect. Our own Church is often challenged by differing views. The current debate over religious liberty versus antidiscrimination laws is one example. Another is the “liturgical war” over the implementa-tion of Vatican II. Diversity is not necessarily a bad thing. E pluribus unum, after all. Unity is only threatened when the debate turns ugly, when differing views are not respected. In the 18th century, John Wesley pleaded for concord among competing Protestant groups with the slogan, “In essen-tials unity; in non-essentials liberty; in all things charity.” Love is the key, as always. Love enables us to see people whose views differ from ours as children of God, our brothers and sisters, and to speak to them and listen to them with respect. The great Sufi poet, Hafiz, said it well: Out of a great need we are all holding hands and climbing. Not loving is a letting go. Listen, the terrain around here is far too dangerous for that. (by Bill Kra-mer, Life, Justice and Peace)

Do you suffer because of a loved one’s mental health condition? Do you struggle to find God in your present experiences?

Would you like to talk with parents and others who have similar experiences? This group is for family members or friends of those who have mental health conditions. It is facilitated by two experienced family group leaders who have both lived through and overcome similar challenges within their own families. If you would like to join us for sharing, caring and prayer, we meet on the second Wednesday evening of each month.

Wednesday, November 8, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the View Room (by the Upper Room) For more information or questions, kindly contact Charlie Hearn at [email protected] of 949-439-8825.
