In Ancient Egypt everyday tools were very simple. There was very little wood in Egypt, so tools had to be made with whatever was available. They also had to be easy to repair.

When the ground was too hard to be broken up with a wooden plough pulled by cattle, hoes were used to break up clods of earth by hand.

Animals were very important to Egyptian farmers.They used animals for trampling seeds into the ground and pulling the plough.

Each farmer’s land was divided from another by boundary stones. They stayed in place even when the Nile flooded.

It was a serious crime either to block the channels of water to a farmer’s field or to move his boundary stones.

If a stone moved, one of the pharaoh’s men had to be summoned to put it back in place and the person who moved it would be punished.

Those who were wealthy and could afford it, had servants and slaves to do the work for them but the mistress of the house was expected to supervise them and see that the work was done properly.This is a tomb model showing servants spinning and weaving flax to make linen.
