Geohot surprised everyone by releasing limera1n yesterday, a day before the

release of greenpois0n by the Chronic Dev Team.

Limera1n can jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 3G and the

new iPod Touch 4G.

In this guide, we will take you through the step by step procedure to jailbreak

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Here are some important points to note before youproceed.

This guide is only for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS

users. iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G

users can use this step by step guide to jailbreak

their iPhone using limera1n. iPhone 3G and iPod

Touch 2G users can use Redsn0w to jailbreak their

iPod Touch.

Please note that jailbreaking your iPhone may void

your warranty and hence proceed with caution.

Do not forget to backup your iPhone before you

proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions

on how to backup your iPhone.

Limera1n supports iOS 4, iOS 4.0.1, iOS 4.0.2 and

iOS 4.1.

Limera1n is currently available for Windows, Geohot plans to release the Mac and Linux versions of

limera1n soon.

Please do NOT upgrade to iOS 4.1 if you want to unlock your iPhone. You should wait for iPhone Dev

Team to release PwnageTool.

Limera1n does NOT hactivate your iPhone, so your iPhone should be activated via iTunes first.

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your

iPhone secure.

Please ensure you are running iTunes 9.2 or later.

Step 1: Download the latest version of limera1n from this link and save the application on your desktop.

Step 2: Double click on the limera1n exe to launch the application.

Step 3: Please ensure that your iPhone is connected to the computer.

Step 4: Click on the "make it rainbutton.

Step 5: You will see that limera1n puts your iPhone in recovery mode. Immediately after this, follow the

instructions.

Step 6: Limera1n will be prompt you to press both the home and power buttons.

Step 7: Limera1n will be then prompt you to release the Power button. Continue to press the home button.

Step 8: You will see that limera1n has put your iPhone in DFU mode. Continue to press the home

button.

Step 9: While limera1n performs the exploit, you will see the limera1n logo on your iPhone.

Step 10: When limera1n has successfully jailbroken your iPhone, you will see doneand get the followingmessage.

Step 11: You need to restart your iPhone. You will notice that there is a new app called limera1n installed onyour iPhone.

Step 12: Launch the limera1n app to install Cydia on your iPhone. Select Cydia and tap on the Install button

to download and install it.

Step 13: After Cydia has been installed, reboot your iPhone.

Step 14: You should find Cydia on your iPhones homescreen. You can launch the limera1n app to uninstall it

as it is no longer required.

unless you pay a $ 300.00 US registration fee first. I know this because I thought the same when I first got

Just so you know, even if you unlock your iphone, it will not work in Korea at all, because they read your imei

and if it's not registered to their network it won't work. They do have a whitelist of which phone can work in

Korea. If you want your iphone to work you will have to pay 400 bucks to get it registered to the Korean

network.

buy an iphone 4 in Korea, that they offer authorized unlock. That's what the site is pretty much saying. That is

it has to be out of contract, and the iphone must be purchased in Korea for them to unlock it. They don't

unlock iphones from different countries. So this could be one of the option that you could look into. sell your

iphone that you have now, buy the iphone 4 in Korea, if you get a visa to stay over a year, i'm sure you can use

that to open a line. buy it no-contract price, have them unlock the iphone and viola, you can use the iphone

anywhere (which I think it should work, as they unlock the Korean iphones). You might need a translater with

you if you plan on doing this. As this could be the only option may not work as you have to have it unlocked

prior to having the KCC approve it. If it's locked, it won't work.

This is great, thanks for putting this together. Now, I have a question. I have and iPhone 4, 4.0.1, jailbroken

with jailbreakme.com. My SHSH blobs have been saved to Cydia for 4.1, confirmed by TinyUmbrella.

What do I need to do to get 4.1 jailbreak? I really don't want to lose anything.

Than JB with greenpois0n for unlocking reasons? Or is there an easier way?

Or will there be a way to unlock it while it's JB later?

greenpois0n has nothing to do with unlocking. Ultrasn0w is the ONLY thing that unlocks the phone currently.

Works fine until step 8 but then the limera1n logo that's supposed to show up on the iPhone in step 9 never

does. Just Apple logo appears on iPhone and limera1n application enters step 10, announcing the phone was

successfully jailbroken. Which actually it wasn't, there is no limera1n app on the iPhone, also not after restart.

Environment: Win XP in Parallels 5 VM on Macbook Pro OS 10.6, iPhone 4 running 4.1

Wait for the MAC version, or use a windows PC. Your problem is probably XP in the VM.

Nobody using 64bit Win7 has had problems as far as I can tell (except for 3gs new boot rom)

2. Select the desired network by tapping the blue icon (>)

I have the same issue as Ohkami, iPhone 4 4.1 clean restore on a win32 xp machine, win64 xp machine, win7

64 machine, macbook pro running xp32,xp64 and win7 64.

BARNEY... IT IS NOT AN OS ISSUE is there anyone that has something knowledgeable to add? other than

"wait till it comes out on mac"

install 4.1 first. Be sure you don't need carrier unlock, cause 4.1 overwrites the baseband and no unlock is

available at present time.

Had it working on the iPhone 4 factory unlocked 4.1 brilliantly, The limera1n icon did not appear because i

turned my phone off before clicking on make it rain but worked the second time around when I left it on.

Also there were some posts that installous is not working after limera1n on cydia which is not true, it worked

perfectly fine and I am enjoying my iPhone 4 to the fullest with a jailbreak and installous, ooh I also did not

loose any application or any contacts or messages, everythin was exactly the same..

And where is green poison now??? Green poison is sound mote and more like a hoax gone wrong, with delay

after delay. If green poison is so great why has it been delayed again. If it's the ultimate jailbreak why has

another jailbreak delayed it's release. Does this mean any new releases will stuff up green poison, then it's not

the fix were looking for then is it. Rumor has it that green poison doesn't live up to the permanent jailbreak

that is claimed and never will as it is all just fantacy. Just ask greenninjia.

else was a bit faster with another exploit... I wouldn't be surprised to see geo was just used so they wouldn't

There is two exploits now to use for Jailbreaking, by releasing greenpoison as well, both exploits can be done

away with from Apple side by changing hardware.

The reason they didn't release was so that if by chance apple decides to release updated hardware to stop the

Jailbreak, then there is another exploit already done/tested etc to fall back on.

As for the life thing, the exploit means the Jailbreak can't be blocked by Apple updates etc, but updating will

actually remove the Jailbreak.

Please do some reading before you say untrue and uneducated guesses about the two teams.

And well done Geohot, even though your annoying and idiotic for doing this all hidden etc, all the same, well

done, and thanks.

out of the fuckin blue he decided to release it on the sameday.he bowed out saying he wasnt goin to do it no

more because of the pressure he was receiving -obviously he likes it! I want to still unlock my damn phone so

4.1 it's not buggy.

shatter exploit. these are different exploits here. they are not happy mostly cause limerain is buggy. and

geohot could have saved this exploit for later as shatter one was ready. yes, he wanted attention and wanted

the fame. but then again, we can jailbreak our phones here. thank the guy for once.

Run Limera1n as Admin

Had to reboot in between installing both Limera1n and Cydia. Works like a charm.

Finally we get Winterboard on our iPhone 4's with 4.1 pre-installed

Hate the politics of the game, but thanks Geohot, you truly are the best.

Cydia doesnt install tried it many times and reran the jail break, IPhone 4 on 4.1. Any ideas?

Imediately after JB insatlls phone turns off by itself and Limera icon is there, launch it to download and installcydia all looks well except after reeboot no icon.

We are thankful, and personally I just don't like how he handled the situation.

Hell you don't want to complain? Well did you know that not long after 4.02 was released he had already

found the exploit and was able to Jailbreak, quit, and told people he isn't releasing his tool?

I'm guessing you don't know that part.

iphone with no success (more than 100 times) finally i figured out the problem was coming from itunes 10 idowngraded to itune 9.2.2 and i succefully jailbreak my iphone from the first time please try and let me know

I think you are right about the iTunes thing, I tried terminating it's process, and then JB, with no success. I

then went into safe mode to try it (since the iTunes software and drivers wouldn't load) But this prevented the

JB software from detecting the phone also.

So finally I rebooted as normal, and I though, maybe I can JB my phone before the computer fully boots up its

software. So I typed my name and password, and as soon as my desktop popped up, I plugged in my 3gs, and

clicked the limera1n icon, and followed the instructions as normal... Tada! It worked :)

So thanks for the idea, I tried it this way cos I didn't want to tamper with iTunes as my backup was on there

And thanks to the developers for there hard work on this exploit :-*

From the UK! Worked first time on iphone 3gs on 4.0.2 and new bootrom. Cydia installed straight away

Then used ultrasn0w to unlock the phone (baseband 5.13.04) on to all networks!

safely preserve the baseband with Chronic guys' Pwnge tool. And now, even though I can jailbreak I still lack

unlock !!! Damn you Geohot, you need to learn how to work in a team ! What am i gonna do with 02.10.04

baseband now? Does anyone know if there is smth coming out for the unlockers?

Didnt follow instructions really well. My mistake no doubt ! All I did was shsh with tinyumbrella. But the

baseband updated from 1.59.00 to 02.10.04 - and there is no way back for baseband that i am aware of...

Surely for you guys who dont care about unlock, L1mera made difference - one day difference ! Geo could use

his exploit later, but NO - he wanted to be the first ! And for people like me who have no time reading

instructions (or not much informed) it created a problem with unlock now. The chronic dev team guys' tool

would have eliminated any chance of upgrading baseband - no risk ! But geo wanted to be spotlighted first! No

reason !!!
