Reading versus Searching• There is a big difference between what we

read and what we search. • We read:

– a single document;– all the details.

• It doesn’t matter what terms the authors used. We have the document!

• We search:– Millions of documents.

• We don’t know what terms the authors used. (We have to add a lot of terms to cover all the variations)
